Why? It's a contagious disease. I would think it would give sufferers great freedom. In a committed relationship, no guilt or fear of infecting their partner.
I'm not sure I understand why this thread was started.....

Results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, at least 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five adolescents and adults, have had genital HSV infection. Over the past decade, the percent of Americans with genital herpes infection in the U.S. has decreased.
Genital HSV-2 infection is more common in women (approximately one out of four women) than in men (almost one out of eight). This may be due to male-to-female transmission being more likely than female-to-male transmission.

So let me understand this...rather than having herpes sufferers try to avoid infecting those who are free of it, you'd prefer not to have sites like this and just have them share it with those who aren't already infected?

While working in the office of a busy OB/GYN, we saw many cases of initial outbreaks and flareups......not so pretty to see those oozing blisters, patients crying because of the burning pain they were feeling, having to put the tip of a culturette directly into an open sore to get a positive culture result......want me to go on????
Damn straight, I'd want to know in advance.....

Herpes is sexy.
I think it's more like people who have herpes are still sexy, and probably prefer others who are in the same boat. That is, if they know they have it and are generally responsible adults looking for an exclusive partnership, rather than just catting around, as opposed to those who really don't care who they hurt.

Add to that that approximately 20% of the sufferers have no idea they're infected, and it's a VERY good thing to have tests done, if you care about people at all. I talked to my gynecologist about using condoms to prevent it, her comment was it would only help if it were a full body condom. It's a skin disease, not a venereal one. Even a cold sore on the lip can cause genital herpes if someone indulges in some oral lovin'. Don't be afraid to require testing prior to the 'big day.'

It's a matter of SKIN TO SKIN contact. You can have this very contact with someone you're in a long term relationship with...and as Heaven has stated...no condom can prevent COMPLETE skin to skin contact.

No whining from the women who've posted on this thread, all of whom I know pretty darned well to be quite capable of dealing with whatever comes their way, be it herpes or just an unimaginitive and apparently not very intelligent or insightful poster. If you had an ounce of imagination you'd be fully aware that it's quite possible to innocently contract herpes or even an STD without ever having done anything either immoral or irresponsible.

Nope. My only comment was that it's an inappropriate place to post this. There's a 'sex talk' forum for those who want to just get down and dirty, and there's a 'dating and sex' forum to discuss issues like STD's and their prevention, among other things. I realize you don't usually post on forums other than R&S, so I was pointing out the forum that is specified by the site's moderators, since you hadn't bothered to look.
You wouldn't recognize a true empath if one were starving to death in front of you.
Really? Of course I wouldn't care, I'd help someone starving, empath or not.
