Just looking at my last thread about "meddling" on another site and someone mentioned that women meddle more because they are more intimate with their friends than men are with theirs.I'm not sure I agree with that, rather I think that men and women just think and operate differently and therefore relate to their friends differently.Men are also taught to be independent and not needy so they would tend to be more standoffish from their friends problems and may feel that their efforts would be intrusive and unwelcome. That's one reason why I don't meddle in my friends' problems anyway.

If what you are asking here is if women tend to be more open about certain very private things than men... well I say it depends on the people and who they are with. Guys can open up, if they choose to.

Women to tend to tell more "intimate" things to each other.
Men just do it in the "locker room".

I would say men tell just as much intimate things to thier friends as women. Thier stories usually just are not as tasteful as womens.

Women have the capacity to get involved in their female friends lives more than men do. Teenage girls and adult gals have sleep over jammie parties and sleep 5 to the bed .....Men would not go near each other in a bed or at least I wouldn't .......I roam in sleep I like my male buds but not to the degree that women are able to make friends.
I wonder if it is a learned behavior?

You need to understand why that is, especially with younger men. Their standing in their peer group is very, very important. Being seen as a great conqueror puts them near the top of the peer group's pecking order, and every peer group of men has an order. Athletic ability is important, as is financial success and their accumulation of "toys" (everything from tools to gadgets to boats and cars).

As they get older, the bragging is no longer necessary, especially if the peer group stays together from young adulthood to maturity. The pecking order tends to flatten out with time, too. Where there was once an "alpha male," there now exists a bunch of betas.

My daughter will have girlz over and they will sleep on top of each other if they have to to fit in a bed.
My son on the other hand will get mad at the mention of it LoL
He had a few boys over last weekend and I told him well 2 0r 3 can sleep in your bed and 2 can take the bunk beds in the game room and the other 2 can sleep on the sofa bed in the gameroom or blow up an air matress...
He was like... umm and sleep in the same bed NO. They slept all over the house but none slept in the same bed LoL

Well someone might as well say it.

The male goodies are external and go through a series of maintenance routines during the night.

I blab just about everything (except true 'details', publicly, when I'm in a relationship with a fella -- 'bantering' and 'innuendo' not withstanding ) I've never been really good at behind the scenes busy-bodiness, though...and there are things about friends that I just don't need to know (unless asked for honest advice)

~sigh~ It's cuz I was that scrawy freckled pigtailed outsider-girl that the "cool ones" never let into the girls room when they'd have a "conference". After all these years, I'm thankful.

..not that I can't be catty but I try to limit it without addressing intimate confidences.

To tell the truth, listening to guys locker room talk is a whole lot more fun (and yes, less personal)

Physically I think women are generally more likely to hug their friends, give them a kiss on the cheek and hold them when appropriate. Men less so by nature. However, I have close male friends that I feel comfortable hugging because they are comfortable with it. Other I won't hug because I know if makes them uncomfortable. As far as communicating, I think men can be just as intimate with their close male friends and open up and be vulnerable...but it does take trust in that friend. I feel women can make that bond faster and easier. But both sexes are capable of being intimate with those they feel secure with.

the big thing here is a consequence of basic biology...men are traditionally built for hunting for food, which, while it helps cooperation, also inspires competition(who can bag the biggest deer), whereas women, who were often left home barefooted and pregnant(and sometimes in a harem of sorts) were left to gather fruits/vegetables, and this also helps inspire cooperation, but not nearly so much competition...and also since they often had the extra weight of a child(either pregnant or carrying young) competition was not always an option due to the physical limitations...also when a woman was pregnant as part of a harem, it often paid to cooperate and communicate with the women of the harem to prevent or stave off rivalries to insure that the children were safely born...again inspiring cooperation and communication...i think you can see where i'm going with this...it's simply instinct

and i'm not trying to be sexist either...these are generalities, and women(when not gravid with child) were sometimes also looked upon as warriors and hunters in their own right, but they were not quite as common as the type i mentioned before

I think that's the key, really. Women are traditionally more open with each other, but I've found that men are equally open with women and vice versa once they realize 'it's okay'. As to how they are together, again it's going to depend on the men. I know my SO and his best friend hug and have been known to get teary eyed too - but the circumstances included the deaths of people near to them.

My sons have gentle hearts but they were raised pretty much by me alone so I passed this off to them. Im sure if their dad was involved raising them they may not be as open and gentle. But I am not sure.
