Because of my Irish/Catholic genes, I get pregnant if someone looks at me the wrong way. I had a tubal and the only side effect that I have noticed is when I'm ovulating, I have cramps and/or sharp pains.
If I had carried every pregnancy (one w/twins) to term, I would be the mother of eight children. I had the tubal after the doctor told me of the risk to my health and unlikelihood of ever having another child carried to term.
I have heard after ten years, the risk of "growing back" is a possibility (even though I told them to cut, tie, cauterize and microwave), is that possible? I'm more comfortable with him being fixed AND wearing a condom as well.

I had tried the depo shot, dont recommend, very moody and depressed. I now use the nuvaring and have had no side effects at all. Very low dosage of homones so no ill side effects. and as a bonus, you only need to think about it once a month.

my oldest sister has tried everything but a hyst...... she is now carrying her 5th & once thats born she wants to see her overies in a jar.
I, on the hand, am different for my 3 sisters... I have my daughter & she was a health hazzard. I've been told that I shouldn't have carried her cause it has done tromendous damage to my body & that I will never be able to carry again... which I keep having miscariages.

Which birth control med gives you the least side effects? I mostly do not want mood swings, cramping in my breasts, or water retention, or headaches...I don't know why I ask though, everything gives me side effects...
Maybve I've led a sheltered existence, but EVERY woman I've ever known was subject to these maladies, BC or not. Seems to be part of the job description.

The best that I can think of is a vasectomy. Virtually no side effects.
Everybody wins!

The IUD works very well - two different kinds - one is good for 10 years and the new one is good for 5 years. I have the 10 year one. When I was 27 I had a blood clot go to my eye, lost 1/2 the sight in one eye. It was a combo of smoking & the pill. Ex hubby went and got a vasectomy and that worked pretty good while we were married. After we divorced and many long talks with my doctor, we decided that BC had come a very long way so they put me on the ring - that was great, my hardest thing was remembering when I put it in! Anyway, after about a year of using it - one New Year's eve I had this incredible pain in my shoulder - bad enough to make me go to the ER - chest X-ray showed a blood clot in my lung. Bad way to bring in the New Year.
While the pills & patches are extremely safe, why take any chances? An IUD takes about 30 minutes in your doctor's office.
I pity the man I will be with when I start into the change - I will never be able to take any HRT's!!!!

My last girlfriend got the 10-year IUD, after coming off Deprovera and it was the best thing for her. The piils and Dep made here extremely moody. That was a joy, NOT! There was a moodiness withdrawal process that lasted about 3 months when she got off of them. After some minor surprise unscheduled blood letting, and when all the girls in the house she is living in lined up on their moons, (some phenomenon I always find amazing) she was (and they were) fine. No stress in remembering the pill (which lead her to the Deprovera in the first place), and no readily detectable side effects so far, and she's happy (well, most of the time ), calm, collected, and feels better.
