There are a few ways I could interpret his proof...
#1 and my all time favorite... he's seriously f'd up! I mean if he wanted to prove his faithfulness by not having the necessary equipment to do the deed.. why not get a codpiece made of metal with a lock that only his SO can open (of course this would necessitate her following him around all day .. and then the codpiece is moot!) 
#2 he was hoping she would rush in and stop him from making the biggest mistake of his life by telling him how much it meant to her and that she would miss it.. now, not seeing how if this woman thought he was cheating on her, she would want him to "save himself" for her
#3 he is guilty as hell and really is part #1.. in either case, this is certainly a time to ask:
"What the hell were you thinking?"

Oh, and I have a question, after his reattachment surgery (can we say oh, that hurt like a m_ _ _ _ r f_ _ _ _r) who the hell is gonna apply the ointment (believing there sure as hell should be to prevent some nasty stinging) and the bandages?????? Sointenly not his wife!!!
