Personally I feel that it should be legal.Selling is legal, fukking is legal so why shouldn't selling fukking services be legal?I feel it should be regulated much the same way alcohol and gambling are regulated, but locking people up for this is silly.
What do you all think?

It's legal here in Nevada (in all but two counties, Reno and Las Vegas, I believe)...and no one seems to have a problem with it. I sure don't.

It's legal in various places around the world, and in many places where it is not legal, it is tolerated.

hate to go with the religous conspiracy theory but try to be the politician that offers that change up in the bible belt.
All politics, the religous movement effectively forcing it underground and keeping it unregulated.

Clearly if the correct protections and safeguards are in place, (Health screening for the services providers) and the entire process is conducted in a place of relative safety, what harm could there be.
Of course the additional tax revenues would be great, and might offset the social security shortfall that looms in the not to distant future.
Would the availability of sexual sarrogates provide greater oppertunities for sexual affairs for the married, yep. Could that then lead to higher incidents of divorce. Ya gotta think it would.
Besides, what politician would want to commit political sucide, with the bible thumping voters to even suggest that it be legalized?
"Vote for me and I'll see that we have a Whore in every streetcorner"
Hey!, hold the fort, I'd vote for that guy.

Yes, I think it should be legal. The women who work as prostitutes would be much safer, their health would likely improve and the government could actually get tax revenue from the business. Of course the Christian right would object, as it might promote sin and liberal left would object because (they seem to believe that) women are not smart enough to decide how they should live their life.

I really doubt that it would lead to more divorce. Just the opposite I think. Instead of having affairs, when men couldn't get enough sex from their wives they would be more likely to go to prostitutes. That might be a good campaign slogan - legalize prostitution to save traditional family values.
There are so many good reasons to legalize it, so of coarse we will never do it.

the manager says that over 90% of the patrons are simply lonely truckers traveling to and from california thru nevada. not many married (homeliving) types.
my personal views.. legalize it. just like abortion.. Its going to happen, whether it be legal or not. The upside of legal would be clinics, aid, help, and the like.. maybe even taxable.

No. and the anti-prostitution laws should be more strictly enforced. we don't need this disgusting behavior happening on our streets.

If it was legal, then perhaps it could be zoned away from the streets and in certain areas where people not wishing to be exposed to it, don't have to be.I mean, it's illegal now and there are areas of town, nice residential areas of town, not red light districts, where hookers will approach cars.
Legalize it and it could be zoned in places designated for such.As in Amsterdam it's allowed in a two mile square section of town only.

It is legal and perfectly acceptable in virtually all countries around the world, in one form or another; the women are called by various tags such as a "hostess" or a Geisha, etc. never something demeaning or insulting. Most countries have it well regulated, especially for health reasons, even in countries that have religious proscriptions , it is tolerated as perfectly normal; a few are rather hypocritical about it, a few actually have quite severe punishments for both the client and the poor woman, so they must travel to another country's service areas("resorts) especially in the Gulf States,(Persian).
Some countries even provide their armed forces with girls in special areas of their camps; if overseas, on a rotational basis and are very nicely paid on top of their tips; even to bases in a "war zone" they are flown in along with the champagne and beer etc. and woe be unto any soldier that abuses one! They are harshly dealt with. Both soldiers and the women are examined on a very regular basis, including those who frequent the bordellos in towns, as like Djibouti,or Jo'Berg, Abidjan or Paris...all quite civilized; jolly positive attitude....%)

Gotta love those gals that serve our boys in uniform.I hookers and strippers should be recognized with a medal for the great work they do for keeping up the morale in our armed forces!

thor is right! if it is legal, restrict it to certain parts of a city. in nevada, it's only legal in counties with less than 100,000 people. that's why it's not legal in reno or las vegas. for example, here in louisiana, make it legal ONLY in the french quarter of new orleans. now, you have placed it in a small area, easier to police! by legalizing it, you have removed it from the seedy areas!

No. and the anti-prostitution laws should be more strictly enforced. we don't need this disgusting behavior happening on our streets. This is exactly the reason why it SHOULD be legal!! If it is legal then it is taken off the streets and into legal and controlled brothels.Take Amsterdam for example, it is the commercial-sex centre of Europe, yet there are very few street prostitutes.
