I imagine alot of people of heard of this organization. Personally, I can't believe that they actually call themselves a church. I heard one of their people on a local radio show this morning spewing hate. It seems to me that they are using and redefining scriptures from the Bible to try to put out their message. I think it is a horrible message. Just listening to that person made me sick. I can't believe that they actually show up at the funerals of American soldiers who served our country and lost their lives. The really sad thing is that they quote the Bible when spewing their hatred. I won't sit here and quote the Bible because I am just beginning to research and read some things in the Bible. But hearing those people from that church kind of confuses me because I can't understand how anyone can be so hateful and still say that they believe in God and that they follow his commandments. All this being said...I won't cast judgement on the people of that church although I do think that they really do need help. Does anyone think that they are actually doing Gods work? I can only hope not.

And how is that much different than the Church of Jesus Christ of Scientology? There are tons of false things in this world designed to lead people astray. Unforntunately many of them have Jesus's name attached to them.

Yup! Fred Phelps seems to be a good solid backup of a "Satan". Here is some of his quotes on some sermons he gave...
"America is doomed and cursed by God irreversibly". "It's too late to pray for America. It's a sin to pray for America". "[Hurricane] Rita is an answer to the prayers of the suffering saints of Westboro Baptist Church". (Hurricane Katrina has also been cited on other sources) "The Lord God Almighty killed [the people who died on 9/11], looked at them in the face, laughed and mocked at each one of them as he cast each one of them into hell". "Nobody that's intelligent and that fears God will fly the American flag any way but upside-down, the international symbol of distress". "All ye having business before this honorable [Supreme] Court draw nigh, give your attention and ye shall be heard. No, no. Draw nigh and bend over. They're gonna rape you up the butt". "The President of the United States gets his jollies masturbating horses". (This was a reference to Laura Bush's recollection of her husband's attempt to milk a male horse[14]). "The hell with your flag. The hell with your fag army, your fag courts, your fag-run government". "This is the hypocritical, fag-infested, fag-run United States of America and we're supposed to respect that fag rag flag?" "The red on that flag stands for fag rectal blood". "On Pope John Paul II's watch, the Catholic Church became the church of the holy pedophiles. And sodomite feces replaced the wafer for their communion service. And Sodomite semen replaced the wine that the Pope drinks". "1.07 billion members of that monstrous machine called the Roman Catholic Church. Every last one of them going to hell". And here are their representations that as their church is set aside different from others:
Westboro holds that they (the congregants of Westboro) and not Israelites are the "chosen people" and that Jews are "filthy" and "have no lamb". The United States is the true Israel.
In their WBC Epics, Westboro members declare that they are the last line of defense against the true forces of evil in the world and will be the sole survivors of Judgment Day; when that time comes, they will be recognized as God's Chosen and the rest of the world will be cast into Hell.
Now I ask, is this the church that Jesus founded with Him as the corner stone?

The Bible and Christianity-like all the Faiths-are perfect; the trouble comes when imperfect humans try to interpret those sacred writings.

Is that an off-shoot of the Church of Scientology, seal? Didn't know they received a directive from Xenu to add Christ to the name.

I know a bit about Scientology and thank you for the link, but my question had to do with Seal's interjection of Christ into the name.

That is the name on the sign of the Church, if you can call it that, here in atlanta. It is etched in stone above the entry way. The Church of Jesus Christ of Scientology. That is why I made the mistake of getting involved with them years ago. It didn't take long to see through the masquerade.
"Scientologists hold the Bible as a holy work and have no argument with the Christian belief that Jesus Christ was the Savior of Mankind and the Son of God. We share Christ's goals for man's achievement of wisdom, good health and immortality. Christianity is among the faiths studied by Scientology ministerial students. There are probably many types of redemption. That of Christ was to heaven." http://www.scientology-lies.com/faq/teachings/scientology-and-christianity.html
I often wonder why so many people question statements like these since they are so easily corroborated. It took me a whole 5 minutes to find this and there is a lot more where this came from.
It becomes eaiser to fool people if you put on a veil of legitimacy so why should this surprise you eastham, unless you are just vying for a joust.

Back to Scientology...I re-read the information in your link Seal, which I had previously read. However, I am hoping you have not confused Chrisitan Science with Scientology. They are too very different entities, and there are several branch churches (the mother church for Chrisitan Science is in Boston) in the greater Atlanta area.

I googled The Church of Jesus Christ of Scientology with quotes and there were no results. What did you google to get your information?
To the topic: No, Westboro Baptist Church isn't a Christian church, I don't care what they claim. If there's a Hell and if there's a deity named God who throws people there, He's got an extra hot place reserved just for WBC members.

I don't think Westboro is even a real church. Its congregation consists of the inbred relatives of its founder. This "church" you can Google. Everyone has the same name.

I have not confused anything but merely reiterated what is above the door of the scientology church here in Atlanta. Not to mention that there is a claim of equitability by many members of that group between them and Christianity. That is why that web site is called scientology lies. Those lies indicate the equitability of scientology to Christianity and every other relition on the face of the earth. That is why I said there is much more information available, because there is. Their purpose is to dupe the world into a false sense of reality, theirs.

The WBC is the reason I joined the Patriot Guard Riders after the death of my son in Iraq. We were fortunate that those people didn't show up for his funeral.
I have since been to funerals that they have protested at screaming their hatred at the mourners. Not only do they do that, but if they can find a phone number for the family they call them and scream their hatred over the phone, telling the families how horrible their dead loved ones are.
If there is a Heaven I would like to be a mouse in the corner when they arrive to be booted out.

Wow! While I most certainly believe the story contained in your post is genuine SFL, I can't help saying to myself, Unbelievable!! I know I'm an innocent-and-a-little-naive man; but I don't understand how people with that kind of justification going-on in their minds, can actually think that the God of the Bible, the God of their children, would actually condone antics like that.

Most churches are not much different than Westboro Baptist Church. How many church denominations do you know of that accept abortions, gay marriage, and the theory of evolution?
The Westboro Baptist Church is a hate group of extremists and therefore placed in the lime light. Many churchs support the same ideals but do so in a more cordial way.
How many people, that are shocked at the antics of this church, are ready to accept women that have had abbortions, people that are gay/lesbian or people that believe in evolution? If you can't accept all people, you may do it quietly, but the same hatred is concealed within you.

Maybe they feel that if God will punish these people for eternity, then they are no use to this world and deserve their actions.
I don't condone any of their antics but I can see how christian teachings when taken to extremes would lead to groups like this.

Sail, are you just fishing for an argument? Perhaps out of the dozens of Christian churches you frequent, the Westboro church is not much different.
What do you really mean when you say How many church denominations do you know of that accept abortion, gay marriage and the theory of evolution? Are you asking how many churches that we know of, will knowingly misinterpret the words God gave in the Bible? Tell me...
No... Forget it. I almost bit. But I'm not going to allow you to draw me into your desire for arguing. Sorry.
