There are many, many opinions on the Jesus character in christian mythology. Some believe he was a savior, others believe he was just a man. Some believe he was black, others believe he was jewish. Others believe he never existed. But based on the scriptures of christian mythology, where would someone find the basis of the belief he was black? I have wondered about this ever since I saw the first picture of a black Jesus. I don't remember reading anything that would lead someone to believe that, but I do not study christian mythology as much as some others at this moment. Are there christians who might be able to help on the matter?

This just goes back to the "it's all about me" attitude that a few minorities have adapted. Jesus was of middle eastern descent. So that would have made him dark skinned, dark hair, and spoke arimaic(spelled wrong). I have no doubts that Jesus actually existed but he was nothing supernatural. He was just a man with strong political views and anti roman sentiment. That is all. He was an extremist and also a fundamentalist. The other stuff you read about him turning water into wine and raising the dead and healing the sick was merely a vehicle to deliver his message to people.

There is a version of the story, that says there were 13 disciples and the church removed the one, because he was black. Supposedly he was Egyptian lower caste, who were mostly black. I believe that was adapted to represent a black Jesus, which is a recent event. But I may be wrong.

Historical record record says there was a man named Jesus who preached in Palestine in the early first century AD.
Evreything else is up to belief.
Hollywood's porttrayal of Jesus is very inaccurate. If Jesus was a Jewish carpenter's son, he would've been a big, rough, dark featured man - not the fair Anglo-Saxon weakling shown in media.

There is a saying we are all in the image and likeness of God. Man, in turn, has always made God in his own image. I don't see what the big deal is for anyone to think Jesus is black. Have you ever been in the Metropolitan Museum of Art or in art museums across Northern Europe to see how medieval artists from the Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Iceland, etc portrayed Jesus? He was blond and had blue eyes! The typical picture of Jesus we see today, and that which Hollywood has adapted for use on the screen is Jesus as painted by Italian masters. As a Catholic, where iconography is more prevalent then in Protestant churches, I can tell you that I have been to many churches, especially in the South where the congregation is predominantly black, the Jesus in all of the paintings and sculptures is black and no one cares.

There was a documentary last night. It was was rather surprising.
Firstly, they dont know where he was executed.
There dont know if he had a trial or not. Some say one trial, then some say two by his people and then the Romans. And some say there is records of no trials.
No one knows if he did have a trial, what was his crimes or crimes? Again no one knows.
So far, no one knows much.
The nearest reference to Jesus being real was an account of his life from St Peter. 30 something years after the death of Jesus.
I guess we need the mathematicians here. What are the probabilities of Jesus being real?
I guess its a bit like Robin Hood.

JESUS WAS ONLY HALF JEWISH which is a paradox because as long as Jesus was born of the loins of a Jew, makes him completely Jewish. Because it was God who impregnated Mary makes me wonder as to what blood type and DNA Jesus had. He was fully Jewish but had to be only half human.
Getting back to Mary. As a Jewish mother, she must have been extremely proud that Jesus was the son of God. The other Jewish mothers bragged their sons being doctors and lawyers but they all shut up when Mary walked nearby because her son was the son of God. Oh the jealousy of these woman! Can you imagine how these women nagged their husbands to the point of driving them crazy. Meanwhile Mary's husband Joseph is disturbed at all the fuss and tried to avoid getting into the middle of this inane bickering. The other men, those henpecked husbands took it out on him, constantly pestered Joseph about the whole virgin thing. Of course they didn't buy the story so instead they made fun of him for having what is now known as erectile dysfunction. Yup, poor Joseph, was known as the man who couldn't get it up.
Despite the dysfunctional family environment Jesus managed to rise above it but it wasn't easy. Being an over achiever caused some problems growing up as a child. One instance, little Jesus made some clay birds and caused them to fly away. Another instance, Jesus being ridiculed by another child made him disappear. His mother wasn't happy about some of these things but she knew he was bound to grow up and make the blind see and raise the dead someday.

According to the documentary last night, Jesus was born a Jew, lived as a Jew and died as a Jew.
This seems very acceptable accept I believe him to have become a Buddhist and returned living as a Jew but with out Jewish Beliefs. He taught the way of the Buddha

SOC,
Why is it that you and most christians react so strongly when it is stated that Jesus' teachings parallel that of the Buddha? Even if it was true that Jesus was instructed by Buddhists, it doesn't change what He preached and certainly doesn't change any christian dogma that you believe in.
Is it the fact that christians only react this way to support their belief that their's is the only true religion? What Buddhists practices and beliefs go against christian beliefs? What sins do people commit by following Buddhism?
Buddhism is a way of life, not a practiced religion. So what is the problem in the fact that Jesus lead more of a Buddist life than Hebrew life? Buddhism existed in the time of Jesus. Jesus question many Hebrew practices but never spoke against Buddhist practices. Do you really think that Jesus knew nothing of Buddhism?
Think about it, how would accepting that Jesus followed Buddhist teachings, in anyway contradict christian lore?
Peace

to a few of us christianity is a way of life also. i was told to pick up my own cross and follow Jesus. my cross is a way of life, Jesus' cross is a religion. to do good to an enemy is a religion, to do good to an enemy because it is as heaping hot coals on their head is a way of life. to love the Lord thy God is a way of life. to love Jesus is a religion. not one pseudochristian follows Jesus. they follow the cross, they follow the blood, they follow everything except the word of God. and is not the word of God sent thru Jesus? is not the word of God sent thru every man and woman? the burden is for each of us to seperate the wheat from the chaff. and my teacher helps with that more than any other that i have encountered. of course there are parallels. w/o parallels how can we compare? it is the gate, the door that each parallel leads to that should concern each of us. mine is narrow and strait. i am sure i will be barely able to squeeze thru LOL. forgive me for not commenting before now but the "entertainment" has been sorely lacking. thanks to knothead and that flapping in the breeze sail for not allowing the pseudos to intimidate them. there are a few new outsiders that i will slowly "judge". should their wisdom impress me i will give them a few unique pats on the back. hang in there! its just debate! moot alibiet but still debate! we be jammin

Why is it that you and most christians react so strongly when it is stated that Jesus' teachings parallel that of the Buddha? Even if it was true that Jesus was instructed by Buddhists, it doesn't change what He preached and certainly doesn't change any christian dogma that you believe in. I believe John 8:3-7 would be a prime example of Buddhist teachings, since it clearly shows Jesus openly refuting Mosaic law in favor of sparing an adultresses life.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou? 6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not. 7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
As for Jesus' appearance, with him being a Jew, I think it's safe to assume he had a dark complexion, dark hair, and dark eyes. The description of Him given in Isaiah 53:2 says, “He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to Him, nothing in His appearance that we should desire Him.” So most likely he was plain looking, and would easily blend into the crowd. And considering that he was the son of a carpenter, I think it'd be safe to assume that he may have been fairly muscular, or, at least, in fairly good shape.
