No idea where I got this but read it tonigth and thought...NICE
A water bearer in China had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water. At the end of the long walk from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water to his house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do.
After 2 years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream. "I am ashamed of myself, and because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your house." The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of the path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house"
I included the moral but please feel what it means to you
Moral: Each of us has our own unique flaws. We're all cracked pots. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are, and look for the good in them.
Blessings to all my crackpot friends.

Thats an excellent contrast to the Christian "cracked pot" original sin. All babies are cracked pots when they're born and doomed to go to hell if they're not "repaired". They believe God throws them all to the garbage heap if they don't get their cracks filled in with messiah glue. This is a philosophy of self-damaging ugliness that perpetuates poor self esteem and religious ignorance. The same goes for circumcision genital mutilators.
As it turns out the "cracked pot" was already perfect to begin with and has accomplished something even more beautiful than the "perfect" pot.

To me the moral is to love someone/something because of their flaws, not in spite of them.

This is one of my favorite stories, too, waterfire. I work in a Christian organization. Though I'm not Christian, I'm required to share before staff meetings. Rather than call my sharing "devotional," it's called "inspirational." The cracked water pot story was my most recent sharing. The Christians loved it too. (We're all the same. Some just don't know it yet. )

Yes it is neat to let go of our ideas of what perfection is, let go and just enjoy being alive.
Lately I have been seeing more and more that I can not stop striving because this or that is wrong with me (according to what I see and what the world teaches me to see) because to me the cure for any fault is to just grow and trust.
From this process I will evolve which is cool but since I have no idea beyond a sense of what I will evolve into I just need to enjoy the journey and not worry about the destination I mean that little cell that divided had no idea that one day it would be typing on a computer sharing about life.
So i do not mind being a crack pot
Oh YES to all posters...nice

I've heard and read this little parable many times, and it still carries its message each time. It carries hope....
