I thought this topic deserved it's own thread. Althought I'm still not sure if this belongs here or in the sports section. I was curious about something. In the assumption that god is real, would he really care who wins sporting events? I always see the winning teams thanking god.

I can understand people like Jon Kitna wearing a Christ hat after the game. But to thank an all powerful diety for winning a game as if they had a hand in it seems a little far fetched. It also seems to me to be a little arrogant, as if saying your god loves you more than his followers on the other team. I'd like to hear some input on the actual topic on this one.

Good topic, Kjac!

I believe God is no respector of persons. In other words, good and bad happen to both good and bad people. God's not out zapping the band ones and rewarding the good ones.

IMO prayers before games should be for the safety of the players and thanks afterward for, again, the safety of the players.

I agree it is rather arrogant to think that God loves you more and lets your team win. Winning or losing depends on the skill of the athlete.

Winning or losing depends on the skill of the athlete.

Unless of course you're referring to Doug Flutie's hail Mary pass for Boston College and the slightest gust of wind that could have changed the outcome...

I think it's ok to pray for the grace God gave A PERSON.
it could be skill, luck, bad luck, weather, stadium, injuries that tip a game in favor.

But God is a Bears fan.

MOM - I saw that game - God was creating a tail wind - this was no hallucination - Flutie - 5-6 throws a ball 70 yards or something - for a TD?

I am not sure whose God it was - but it was divine intervention!

Well, he's sure as shine not a Browns fan! Three years in a row they've led the league in lost time to injuries. Maybe the owner needs that spiritual enema thing you guys were talking about on another thread.
