About a year before my pa went on ahead he and I traveled back down to our family homestead that we had left to come to Wisconsin when I was five. The farm was now a subdivision and pa pointed to the only thing left of the farm,a huge old red oak where he used to rest his Belgian horses under while working the fields. When North America's early settlers cleared their land for farming, they often left a tree in the center of a field. They called it a "resting tree."
Christ can be our "resting tree." In the Gospel of Matthew, he offers us both an invitation and a promise: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls" (Matthew 11:28-29). When we are weak and tired from the load of life's burdens, Christ will carry them and let us rest. He will help us to find solutions for our problems and hope instead of our fears.
We find rest for our souls -- a refuge and a shelter -- when we clear a space for Christ in our lives

Thank you Jankia! Once again you bring pure serenity...
Reminded me of my Morgan horse I once had. We would ride the field every Saturday in the warmer months. And rest under the huge apple tree in the field. She always would scout around for a red apple and bring it to me, then drop it in my lap!
She knew the fruit was good!

Hi Lori,Servant and Angel, glad you liked that little tidbit. The story of your Morgan, Angel reminds me of our old Paint when I was a boy.It was difficult to get her to open up so I could put in its bit. An apple sure remedied that problem!

Here's one story you will enjoy. When my horse (Angel was her name ) had her fillie, and when the fillie got big enough to let out to pasture, which didn't take long; We noticed one day how Mom was nudging the fillie away from the cidar apple trees. My Dad and I went out to the small fenced in pasture and noticed the fillie was really walking funny! I mean we though she got hurt or something. Turned out she got tipsy drunk on eating too many cidar apples
Angel must of known about them devil fruits! The fillie sure looked funny swaying those long legs of hers and her eyes moved so slowly!.

I can't wait for fall and watch those leaves on the trees turn yellow, red and orange. Like jewels of the earth that fall from the trees to the ground.

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.” Could it be that Jesus is our resting tree?

Just popped in to this thread.
Thanks for sharing to both Jankia and Angel.
I always wondered why there was always one big tree left in a farming field, now I know. Thanks Jankia.
And it's great to hear a story of instinctive intelligence about an animal too Angel!
Here's another story I read about 5 years prior from New York State.
A herd of cows were gathered up on a ferry ride on the way to a slaughterhouse. There was one cow in particular that refused to get on the ferry. She bucked, shoved, pulled and resisted until she broke free of the others and actually swam across the river and took off. By the time animal control caught her, they discovered that she was "Pregnant".
A local animal sanctuary protested and won the rights to place the pregnant cow at their organization. The cow later gave birth and both mom and her calf are living out their lives in a peaceful pasture, somewhere in upstate New York.
Animals, if we care to notice, can be just as amazing as humans.....
