I understand there may be good medical reasons sometimes for a boy to have this performed, but I totally disagree with it being on religeos grounds.
Why cut off something that God put there in the first place?.. makes no sense at all.

In the USA, there are many Christians who draw more inspiration from the Old Testament than from the New. Hence the prevalance of circumcision among Americans, as they see it as a covenant with God.
Possible "issue" site, so take with a grain of salt.
Currently, the USA runs about 55% circumcision. (I'm actually surprised it's running that low...)

I had both my boys circumcised and not for "religious" reasons, but for reasons of health and cleanliness. Uncircumcised, it is difficult to get clean, especially for a young boy. But that's MIO.
But for other people it's what ever floats your boat. For most people today it is a personal choice to have it done or not.

but I totally disagree with it being on religeos grounds. Ignorant people follow religion much better than if you reason with them. I mean if you can reason with these people then they wouldn't be religious. Its the same today. Thats why kosher laws were put in place. In the time of the Israelites, their cooking ware was pottery, not metal and disease was easily spread so dairy and meat had to be separated. We have absolutely no need for this today but it remains in place as part of Judaism as a remnant of how life was.
Oh, we're talking about sex organs. Well, same reason. They were very freaked out about anything ozzing from sexual organs and hence the reason for the perverted unclean ideas about menstruation and male foreskins. The circumcision procedure was performed by a Mohel in a ritual called a Bris. Some Mohel's stopped the bleeding orally in what is called a Metzitzah. Do you need to see pictures? The Department of Health in NYC sent out warnings forbidding this procedure because babies have gotten herpes and some died from infection passed on by the Mohel.

I'm afraid i totally disagree about circumsision being cleaner or healthier. .. shouldnt a boy grow in to man and choose for himself if he wants it removed? Thats taking away a childs rights.

Charli, I can give you all sorts of medical and nursing reasons that it is better done as a baby., but this topic is actually not about circumcision.
Circumcision is on of this topics like politics and religion. Nobody is going to come to a conclusion that everyone agree with.

Let's face it, literally for sensuous ladies, it just looks a lot better because the other way it just looks like a snake wearing an oversized turtle neck sweater. This might actually be what Eve ran into that day.
If we were still running around naked in the jungle then the foreskin would be needed for protection against shrubbery, brush and poison ivy. Now we have boxers, briefs, Haines, Jockey, Fruit of the Loom, Calvin Kline and Speedos.

I think you're right Hammer... aesthetics have a lot to do with it. However, a mouth full of chub is kind of blech! Oh, and despite modern cleansing techniques, uncuts STILL have a tendency to emit an unpleasant pungent oder, as do any body parts with creases (like underarms or the groin area). Then, there's the whole friction thing, which uncut guys like to tell me is a myth, but personal experience tells me that it is non existent with uncut penises.
LOL....   Sorry, had to go there.

Sorry you went there but you survived. Thank god for the gag reflex.  Probably explains why all the drunkenness and debauchery of days of old. It does seem they did solve some of those problems in old Rome with the bathhouses, they were probably cleaner and so kept any foulness to a minimum and so they partied hard. Later in Europe things fouled up again with royalty being sewn into their royal garments putrefying the air and not bathing for months. What had to follow was a great deal of sexual repression and perversion. Sex of any kind would be a sin for sure. No wonder why farmers herded sheep.
