Romans 12:1-- "Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2--Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will. 3--For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgement, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you. 4--Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, 5--so in Christ we who are many form one Body, and each member belongs to all the others. 6--We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in preportion to his faith. 7--If it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; 8--if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. 1Corinthians 12--"1--Now about spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be ignorant. 2--You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were led astray to mute idols. 3--Therefore I tell you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, 'Jesus be cursed', and no one can say, 'Jesus is Lord', except by the Holy Spirit. 4--There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5--There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. 6--There are different kinds of working, but the same God works all of them in all men. 7--Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8--To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit, 9--to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10--to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11--All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and He gives them to each one, just as He determines." While I gratefully acknowledge having been blessed with 1 or 2 of this list, I certainly do not possess most of them. Yet since I'm fully aware that some of the listed gifts of the Spirit do exist, it would be foolish of me to also believe that any of the others appearing on this list do not exist. So when some others claim to possessing gifts that I do not share, I will not display either ignorance nor jealousy by questioning their honesty.
As time proceeds I pray for additional blessings. (And I continue to try to clean-up my act.)

Very interesting post SOC,tends to try and answer some questions we all have about certain gifts that are given to some and not to others. The other question is why, because gifts from God arent earned, they are given.

Wisdom Wisdom without knowledge and experience? Sounds like a cheap trick you do in front of a mirror that Seal would have sold for half price.
healing This is a wish. No magical powers here. Christians die like flies like anyone else with a terminal disease. All case studies shows intercessory prayers are no better than praying to a watermelon. Well, Wigglesworth did raise the dead. Can anyone here do that?
knowledge Knowledge without studying? Then why the low IQs and the inability to comprehend concepts? The abject lack of logic, reasoning, inductive, deductive. No epistomlogy. No critical thinking. Hmmmm....Anyone with this gift magically becomes knowledgeable physics, astronomy, medicine, whatever without higher education in a university? Wow, who needs degrees or books anymore? Think of the time and money you can save. You can do brain surgery right out of high school.
The rest of the gifts, well, they look more like curses of an infected mind suffering psychosis. Medication would be the proper gift for these.
prophesy is fortune telling A $5 cheap palm reader can be just as entertaining or a crystal balling reading using a bowling ball.
distinguishing spirits Hallucinations? Superstitions? Seeing beings that aren't there? Oh wait, its being able to distinguish spirits like knowing Pinot Grigio from Chardonnay or hooch from moonshine? Someone's got a Jack Daniels stashed away.
These next two. What can I say? They speak for themselves. speaking garbled tongues understanding garbled tongues
I think its very sad so many waste their time and whole lives on bogus dreams like this. To pretend that one can magically obtain the equivalent of having a PhD and all areas of arts, science, philosophy, etc without ever having to step foot in a classroom and acquiring all the wisdom and knowledge of the universe without living an authentic life. Very sad but very delusional too. A perfect excuse to drop out school and drop out of life and mentally masturbate over fantasies.
Too bad there are no genuine gifts else we'd see them being shown right here. We'd see Christians left and right cleaning up all the Nobel prizes. We'd see cold fusion. The energy problems solved. We'd see no wars. Wait, Christians want war, forget that. But global warming solved. The common cold solved. Even acne. But no. Just a sad promise and you can't even get your money back. But I'd sure love to see the evidence if you got it. I'd join up for life too. Tell me where to sign up. If its too good to be true I'm in.

i would be awed at the power to heal. but then again, did not Teacher say " thine faith hath made thee whole"? and of course he did say "i can do nothing of myself". i have yet to meet a man or woman who has heard the gospel in their own voice, and of course from another who does not know their language, shall we say an unknown tongue. LOL

Explain why certain people can do complex math faster then a calculator or why certain people can remember every minute detail of there lives. They used to call them Idiot Savants. They're now called Autistic Savant. You obviously think this is a gift. Many can't even dress themselves, or feed themselves, or hold a job other than menial and are very socially dysfunctional.
Rain Man was about a savant. Kim Peek is an actual one. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Peek He reads with both eyes for each page, remembers everything yet can't dress himself or care for himself any other way. He can hardly compose a song yet remembers ever single detail about every one ever written.
So this is your idea of a gift. OK then, don't be insulted if I call you an idiot.

I think that there is more to "gift" that obvious and extradorinary persons or tasks such as Kim Peak. He has some medical and physical difference that can explain his out of the ordinary skills or talents. Gifted or not? I don't know. Understanding, wisdom, knowledge can be obtained by teaching methods of school, intellect and rationallization and analysis. You may even get a piece of paper to put up on your wall for display on your merits. Gifts of understanding, wisom, knowledge given by God, are not displayed by a wall plaque. Humility and gentleness are found in gifts and the fruits they obtain. They don't seek out You tube videos, advertisments, or recongition. Some people may call it a gut feeling, unitituion. I don't think if you are looking for confirmation of a "Gift' from God you are going to find it in a award winning ceremony, its likely to be quitely waiting for you to notice at your own pace or way.

Certainly this application in the Bible would define wisdom as--1. The power of true and right discernment; also, conformity to the course of action dictated by such discernment.. 2--Good practical judgement; common sense.
With such definitions, Jankia can feel confident in possessing such a gift. Jankia is a very wise man.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiritual_gift
Charismatic Gifts (1 Corinthians 12) Main article: Charisma Main article: Charism Also known as the "manifestation gifts" or "miraculous gifts". Some limit the term "spiritual gifts" to just the charismatic gifts. Cessationism claims that these gifts ceased to operate (through individuals) early in Christian history. Its counterpart continuationism claims that they still operate today. They are believed by some to be transmitted through the laying on of hands.
"Gifts of the Holy Spirit" redirects here. For the seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the Catholic tradition, see Seven gifts of the Holy Spirit. According to Christianity the spiritual gifts (or charismata) are gifts that are supernaturally bestowed on Christians, each having his or her own proper gift (or gifts) to strengthen the church. They are described in the New Testament, primarily in First Corinthians 12, Romans 12, and Ephesians 4.
Some believe their operation was limited to early Christianity. According to some Protestant denominations, certain of the spiritual gifts, for example speaking in tongues and interpretation of tongues, were enjoyed only for a short time and were suited to the Church's infancy, not to later times. This view is known as cessationism. This opinion is held by John F. MacArthur, Jr., Robert L. Thomas and many other conservative main line Christian denominations. In contrast, some Christian scholars such as Zola Levitt maintain that the number of gifts cannot be determined, because, as Levitt puts it, "A spiritual gift is anything that a person can do supernaturally well."
Other groups, including Pentecostal, Apostolic, and other Holiness denominations of Christianity, take an opposing view, believing that the spiritual gifts are still given by the Holy Spirit today, and Pentecostal meetings often involve ordinary parishioners displaying the use of these gifts (1 Cor 14). In addition, sections of Roman Catholicism, Eastern Orthodoxy, and many other Protestant denominations also continue to believe in and make use of spiritual gifts.
The teaching on there being nine gifts of the Spirit originated from Howard Carter, an early Pentecostal evangelist. This is based on the text from 1 Corinthians 12:27-30 giving the gifts and listing them as the "gifts of the Spirit". They were later taught and popularized by Lester Sumrall, who accompanied Carter on many missionary journeys in his youth. Modern Bible teachers and scholars have came to the conclusion that there are other gifts of the Spirit listed in Scripture

Hammer, some people need to realize what the gifts are before commenting too much on them.
I asked a question and got ignored. Oh well, carry on!
