Being that there are something like 30,000 different sects of Christianity, you may want to be a bit more specific in which Christian view you seek.

All the Masons I've known were Christians. And they used the King James Bible as their "book". But I've only known Masons on the East Coast and West Coast (friends and family) and don't know what the "take" is in between.

Freemasonry, from what I understand, is closely aligned with liberal Christianity (and generally Christian Deism or Unitarians). It's generally a rational approach to religion, relying on intellect rather than dogma. In fact, it tends to reject that part of the Christian faith that they feel has been layered on over the centuries, sometimes even rejecting entire chapters and books of the Bible (see Jefferson's Bible, for instance).

Now that you brought that up, until recently I've mostly only had "liberal Christian" friends and relatives (except for those who were of another religion entirely) -- which is why all this "legalistic dogma" is rather...uh..."enlightning".

I believe they focus on monotheism, actually, which encompasses a lot of religions.

Freemasonry draws alot of flack because they allow people from all religions into their frat. Knights of Columbus is similair, but only for Christians.

Freemasonry models off of King Solomon and his temple. Within the craft lies very much knowledge of symbolism used throughout history. There are its own stories of birth, death and resurrection, Hiram Abbif and much use of allegory and metaphor. The meetings are highly ritualized and serve to build the temple within the Mason. Christianity has always found something wrong with EVERY other system and Masonry is no different. There have been scandals within Masonry but so few that one can count them on one hand compared to the massive destruction Christianity responsible for. Masonry. however, draws upon Christian symbolism within its deeper orders such as the Knights Templars and Scottish Rites.

Masonry is very very big and very widespread world wide. Very important people in government and business including the Founding Fathers have been Freemasons.

Only men can be Freemasons, however there are female orders called Eastern Star for women and the Rainbow order for young girls.

You can not apply for membership with a Mason vouching for you.

I went through the three Blue Lodge Degrees several years ago and the only religious requirements the Masons insist on is a belief in a supreme being. They accept Jews,Christians,Muslims and as near as I can tell, most any other. Some denominations don't allow members of their church to become Masons due to their oaths of secrecy.

Most of the Masons I knew were Christians, many were deacons and Sunday school teachers.

My father was a mason & my mother was in the Eastern Stars. Daddy was a decon and mother was a Sunday School teacher.

There is more to the story than I either understand or wish to share.
