A psychoanalysis of men who wrote the OT is a must. What were on the minds of men to create a male God with the personality of a impulsive, angry, deal making, and even manipulatable being? Well, for Malachi I think it was filling the offering plates, and being able to say God loved some and hated others. Malachi is the very last book of the OT, and I am skeptical of it.
It is only four chapters, and it is the last cannonized book before Yeashua. It is pretty nasty stuff.
Malachi 1 1. An oracle: The word of the LORD to Israel through Malachi. 2. "I have loved you," says the LORD. "But you ask, `How have you loved us?' "Was not Esau Jacob's brother?" the LORD says. "Yet I have loved Jacob, 3. but Esau I have hated, and I have turned his mountains into a wasteland and left his inheritance to the desert jackals." 4. Edom may say, "Though we have been crushed, we will rebuild the ruins." But this is what the LORD Almighty says: "They may build, but I will demolish. They will be called the Wicked Land, a people always under the wrath of the LORD.
Malachi 2 2. If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name," says the LORD Almighty, "I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me. 3. "Because of you I will rebuke your descendants ; I will spread on your faces the offal from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it.
Malachi 1 8. When you bring blind animals for sacrifice, is that not wrong? When you sacrifice crippled or diseased animals, is that not wrong? Try offering them to your governor! Would he be pleased with you? Would he accept you?" says the LORD Almighty. 9. "Now implore God to be gracious to us. With such offerings from your hands, will he accept you?"--says the LORD Almighty. 10. "Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar! I am not pleased with you," says the LORD Almighty, "and I will accept no offering from your hands.

You're correct Lance, The God of the NT comes across as far more patient + loving than the god we are told about in the OT.
This is because of the grace ushered in through the death of Jesus Christ.
It is the same vengeful, jealous, demanding Judge we serve now. But through the blood of Jesus, His righteous anger has been "dealt with" through the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.
Because of His work on the cross, no other sacrifice need be offered to God as payment for our sins.
Christ paid it all, (for all those who believe in His name.)
Which is why Christians make such a big deal about His death.
Not because we are "blood-thirsty".

You say he's the same vengeful, jealous, demanding Judge we serve now? Pathetic fear of a god who is evil instead of a loving and compassionate god. Neither one exists but your belief in something horrible only shows what is inside you is the same.
Further you worship a dead man on a cross. More death cult worship.

It is the same vengeful, jealous, demanding Judge we serve now. In your estimation, does God change? Does God hate anyone?
The God I believe in is love, and is incapable of hate.
To my mind, so use "God" & "hate" in the same sentence is a contradiction.

The book of Malachi is an interesting and informative book. Malachi meaning "The Angel" who was the last O.T. prophet that sealed up all the beforehand prophets and prophesies. The book starts with the division of the see of Easu and Jacob.
This was also during the time after the second temple was built. How they did not uphold the original ceremonial laws that were given in Lev. They corrupted the altar of God temple with leavened bread, unclean animals and strange fires. Even their feasts festivals were corrupted. It's a good book if one knows the history of the division and the splitting of Israel and Judah. What happened to them along the way and what is foretold of them to come in Malachi.

Lance, I believe that the God we serve is a righteous God. He is a Holy God.
Lovingkindness is a great thing. It is a truly nice thing. And certainly our God: the god of the Bible, (both OT + NT), is abounding in His love for us, (as well as all of Creation.) 2Samuel 24:14--"David said to Gad, 'I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for His mercy is great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.' " But also, since He is a righteous God, He cannot tolerate evil. Habakkuk 1:13--"Your eyes are too pure to look on evil; You cannot tolerate wrong. Why then do you tolerate the treacherous? Why are You silent while the wicked swallow up those more righteous than themselves?" Yet through the forgiveness purchased with Christ's blood, (shed on the cross); every Believer is able to claim forgiveness for any sin. Nothing is beyond the value of His redemption. (Represented by His blood.)

Absolutely Lance.
Does a mother or father not still love the child they administer discipline to? Of course. Discipline is a method of communication. It is more likely that a child will remember a lesson learned through some cost to themselves. Not necessarily any great cost. Perhaps the first few times we disobey God in a particular area, He will give us a little slap on the wrist. Depending on how soon we show that we have learned the lesson He is teaching, He will continue to turn the volume up, until He is acknowledged. The sooner we demonstrate that we have understood that which He is teaching, the sooner will He demonstrate His awesome love.
We are responsible for the way we are treated.

But also, since He is a righteous God, He cannot tolerate evil. Your god creates evil and says so in the bible, the book of lies and fable.
Doesn't that explain your delusions of reality? How you interact with people in real life? The fact that you can believe in a god that murders children and wipes out an entire planet and call it love means your own mind is similarly psychopathic. Not just you in case you're paranoid but the rest of your herd of Christian sheeples, you just happen to be an epitome.
Just as you are what you eat, you also are what you believe, probably more so. To know what you are, look at what you believe but so far you have shown an inability to face your own truths.

No Lance, I do not believe so. Several times we are told in the Bible that God hates the sin; but still loves the sinner. As I understand this, He absolutely loves all people, but He hates what each of us becomes through Satan's efforts. That's why He sacrificed His Son: Jesus Christ--the Sinless one. It was only through the sacrifice of a pure + Holy One that all of the sins of the world could be forgiven in one fell swoop. (At one time.) And to inherit this salvation, all any of us need do is invite Him into our lives and confess that we are sinners needing the Saviour's love.
He even loves you Hammertime.

SOC Your sick faith is a reflection of your mental and emotional disabilities and so it is with others but you are a good example. Were you ever psychologically evaluated by a competent mental health professional?

SOC, what an ignorant thing to say!
He even loves you Hammertime. This is the problem, forcing your ridiculous beliefs on others. It is similar to a school child trying to teach a University mathematician to do Additions

If God didn't hate Esua, then did Malachi get it wrong?

the LORD says. the LORD says. the LORD says. the LORD says. And is someone hearing voices and writing it down? I've always loved that part of the bible.

SOC,
It was only through the sacrifice of a pure + Holy One that all of the sins of the world could be forgiven in one fell swoop. (At one time.) I thought your god was all powerful. He makes all the rules and he can change any rule he wants. So why sacrifice his own son to himself? You dogma has warped your mind. Again, god can do anything. You mean he couldn't come up with a better way to fuel his ego?
Peace

Many, many years before Christ, God said that all who sin will die. While He provided a means by which people can be forgiven of their sins, (the weekly sacrifice of unblemished animals), this existing means for forgiveness was proving too difficult for humankind. So He made it even easier for us to get right with Him. Jesus went to the cross for you + for me Sail, and through His sacrificial death, the gates of heaven have been opened for us.
(But you can always continue to deny Him and enjoy the Lost life you seem intent on retaining.)
Peace.

16knots, you said, "that was an ignorant thing to say", (or something to that effect.). Far from it. Disregarding hammer's perpetual insults, He is willing to invite Hammertime into His presence even yet.
How is that a bad thing??
