Some theologians say that "The Gospel of the Holy Twelve" is the original "lost Gospel", while others say it is not. I hope that we can intelligently discuss this lost gospel and will leave it up to the discernment of the members of R&S to discuss this for the enlightenment of all.

Here is some background information:
In 1881 an English minister, Rev. G. J. Ouseley, got hold of a hitherto unknown, not rewritten evangelical text. This uncorrupted text has century after century been secured from all falsification in a buddistic monastary in Tibet, since the day a man has hidden it there, an man of the Essene society. Ouseley translated the Aramaic text and gave it the name The Gospel of the Holy Twelve. It has later been translated into German.

During the last century also many old fragments of the gospel have come into light. Some of them have been found in old libraries and other from excavations. These fragments are called Logins or Agraphas. They are older than and more original than the canonized gospels. Their great value is due to the fact that they are uncorrupted. The curious thing is, however, that many parts of these fragments mostly agree, word for word, with the Gospel of the Holy Twelve, though they are completely missing in the canonical gospels.

According to Ouseley, the Gospel of the Holy Twelve is dated from the first century AD and managed to escape the book burning which the emperor Constantine instituted when he converted to Christianity. It was felt that in order to get Constantine to convert to Christianity; the Christian church would have to erase certain concepts from its doctrine and writings. The four main concepts that the church erased were (1) reincarnation; (2) the equality and rights of women; (3) vegetarianism; and (4) mankind’s obligation toward animals.

The Original Gospel, representing the teachings of Christ, the Lord of Love, taught harmlessness and compassion to all living beings, including both animals and humans. For reasons above stated, the Roman Churchmen at Nicea opposed these doctrines and eliminated them from the Gospels, which they radically changed so as to be acceptable to Constantine, who loved the red meats and flowing wine of his midnight feasts too much to accept a religion that prohibited these pleasures, which was a main reason why he so bitterly persecuted the early Christians who advocated these doctrines. For this reason the Church Fathers changed the Gospel in such a way that Love and Compassion were limited only to human beings but the animal expressions of life were excluded from receiving these benefits. But the savior of the Original Gospel, as Christ were represented to be, was a redeemer of the animal world, as he was of men, seeking to alleviate the sufferings of all living beings.
For those of you that never heard of this Gospel and to those that are familiar with it, I am including a URL of an online translation for reference purposes:

The Gospel of the Holy Twelve

Sections XC (90) thru XCIV (94) are a good summary of the entire Gospel. I suggest you start there and if you find it interesting, you can read the whole thing.

I don’t necessarily agree with everything in this gospel but found it vary interesting. I hope you will also enjoy it.

Ouseley

Interesting that he shares the last name of an American chemist who made "Ouseley's acid", a bootleg version of LSD-25 that was supposed to be 99% as good as the stuff coming from Sandoz Pharmaceuticals in Basil,Switzerland.

Thanks for posting this Sail, I had forgotten about it. This Arabic scroll was actually called The Gospel of the Nazirenes (this is spelled correctly). Here is another web site that you might find informative:

http://www.thenazareneway.com/ght_table_of_contents.htm

Once there, click on Ouseley's biography which shows his picture also.

One of the first things you notice is that the Essene New Testament teaches that Joseph is Jesus' father.
Section II - The Immaculate Conception Of Jesus The Christ

9. And in the same day the angel Gabriel appeared unto Joseph in a dream and said unto him, Hail, Joseph, thou that art highly favoured, for the Fatherhood of God is with thee. Blessed art thou among men and blessed be the fruit of thy loins.
10. And as Joseph thought upon these words he was troubled, and the angel of the Lord said unto him, Fear not, Joseph, thou Son of David, for thou hast found favour with God, and behold thou shalt beget a child, and thou shalt call his name Jesu-Maria for he shall save his people from their sins.
11. Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was written in the prophets saying, Behold a Maiden shall conceive and be with child and shall bring forth a son, and shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God Within Us.
12. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel had bidden him, and went in unto Mary, his espoused bride, and she conceived in her womb the Holy One.

The Essenes seem to look at Jesus' birth as selective breeding, not a virgin birth.

The Essenes believed that Jesus was married to Miriam for seven years, there is no mention of children though. They also believe that after Miriam's death, Jesus continued his studies in Egypt, so that he would learn of the wisdom of the Egyptians, as Moses did.

Section VI - The Childhood And Youth Of Jesus the Christ

13. AND in the eighteenth year of his age, Jesus was espoused unto Miriam, a virgin of the tribe of Judah with whom he lived seven years, and she died, for God took her, that he might go on to the higher things which he had to do, and to suffer for the sons and daughters of men.

14. And Jesus, after that he had finished his study of the law, went down again into Egypt that he might learn of the wisdom of the Egyptians, even as Moses did. And going into the desert, he meditated and fasted and prayed, and obtained the power of the Holy Name, by which he wrought many miracles.

The Essenes' story of Jesus differs drastically from todays christian story.

Section XI - The Anointing By Mary Magdalene

8. Wherefore I say unto thee, man but also beast and birds of the air, yea, even the fishes of the sea; but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. Her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much, not only man but also beast and birds of the air, yea, even the fishes of the sea; but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

9. And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven, and they who sat at the table began to say within themselves, who is this that forgiveth sins also?

10. Though he had said not, I forgive thee, but Thy sins are forgiven thee, for he discerned true faith and penitence in her heart. And Jesus needed not that any should testify of any man, for he himself knew what was in man.
The Essenes stressed that Jesus did not forgive sins. They believed that sins were forgiven by the Father who was God.

Again we see a difference in how early christians viewed Jesus. Christianity has built so much dogma into their beliefs that early christians would consider current christian doctrine to be balsphemy.

Section XIV - The Teaching of Cruelty In Animals

6. AND as Jesus was going with some of his disciples he met with a certain man who trained dogs to hunt other creatures. And he said to the man, Why doest thou thus? and the man said, By this I live and what profit is there to any in these creatures? these creatures are weak, but the dogs they are strong. And Jesus said, Thou lackest wisdom and love. Lo, every creature which God hath made hath its end, and purpose, and who can say what good is there in it? or what profit to thyself, or mankind?
7. And, for thy living, behold the fields yielding their increase, and the fruit-bearing trees and the herbs; what needest thou more than these which honest work of thy hands will not give to thee? Woe to the strong who misuse their strength, Woe to the hunters for they shall be hunted.
8. And the man marvelled, and left off training the dogs to hunt, and taught them to save life rather than destroy, And he learned of the doctrines of Jesus and became his disciple.
The Essenes considered all of god's creation to be equal (even animals). Jesus taught that you should respect and be kind to all animals and should not kill animals. To Jesus, the killing of an animal would break the commandments because it is the taking of life from one of god's creatures. By killing a man or animal, the killer is destroying a vessel of god thus commanding its spirit back to the spiritual world. This in effect reduces god's presence in the physical realm. The killing of an animal is only allowed to put it out of its misery or in self defense.

The Essenes recorded that Jesus instructed people to follow a vegitarian diet and to never consume flesh or blood. He also preached against animal sacrifices in the temple (I am not a vegitarian but that is what this gospel teaches).

Again we see that christianity changed Jesus' message relating to the treatment of animals. Why would they do that? Because they were more concerned with building a religion than what Jesus taught. They built their dogma on what prospective members would accept easily. Similar to Moses relenting to the Hebrews he lead. Moses installed laws that would allow divorce which was against the commandments.

In consideration of facts, dog hunting training history shares the origin began in the 19th Century of England and Germany. Dog hunting training was non-existant in first century A.D.

Also to note, that the words rabbit, cat and ape do not even appear in any Aramaic manuscript which Jesus supposively had saved in Palistine...lol.

Fortunately I took the opportunity to further research in the library on Rev. Ouseley; found much literature and writings from him as well as his friends, social relations which include editors of magazines that published his works along with mystic and Theosophy occultrists.

Come to find out Rev. Ouseley was combining all religions into one mystic religion of his time, which he became an avid demonstrator in several phamplets and magazine editorials. His combination beliefs of the Christian faith (Catholic order, which he was made to leave, not retired from), with Buddhism, Hinduism and Judasim, came together into one under his soul priority belief in Spritualism of a dualty nature.

It was most difficult for him to write as his health declined in deafness and blindness. Due to his illnesses, he had to have others write for him. He is known to be editor as the "seeress".

Rev. Ouseley, never claimed literally to have been given written Arabic manuscripts from Tibet where they were supposively secretly kept; there has been none of these originals even brought forward to us. But he did write about them being given to him by fragments through "Inspiration" of visions and dreams over a matter of time segments in his later years.

Rev. Ouseley was directed from the mediums Anna Kingsford and Edward Maitland who were deep into the occult of Theosophy, which they in turn joined the Theosophical Society. Online there is historical biographies of A. Kingsford for she was known for writing "The Perfect Way" of diet for vegetarianism, which Ousley was also a vegetarian. A. Kingsford also told Ouseley she was reincarnated from back in Jesus' time of Jeruselem. This began their relationship and snowballed into reincarnation channeling of mediumism. Ousley was also an avid believer of reincarnation and his beliefs fit quite comfortably in with the teachings of Kingsford and Maitland.

Rev. Ouseley towards the end of his life could not sleep, he had much hallucinations and visions in his head. He accounted himself as a man of maddness and as a dead man. He perpetuated that he was reincarnated as a magian priest, a priestess of Isis, a Buddhist monk, a Jewish high priest and a Catholic Bishop in Spain. He could not obtain any proof of his claims, but only through expression of his sleeplessness ailments.

Rev. Ouseley wrote short contributions to magazines like, "The Lindsey and Lincolnshire Star" (which he confessed his dreams of being given the Arabic fragments from Kingsford and Maitland in dream visions), and "The Theosophist", (his writing under title Drama of the Latter Days called "A Suggestion") in March of 1884, which is on page 149 & 150. He also wrote a short fragment in a phamplet called "The Light" back in 1882, which is on page 475 of his opinion of "The Perfect Way" by Ann Kingsford.

Rev. Ouseley did also write that he was not the soul original writer of The Gospel of the Holy Twelve. Ouseley stated that the book was written by someone named Theosopho a minister and by someone named Ellora who was a seeress of a particualar sanctuary, which Ouseley adopted. Ouseley had described The Gospel of the Holy Twelve as "The True Story of the Perfect Life", which is where the corrupted version we read online gets it's subtitle from. His book was also by him known as "The Nazarene Gospel", "The Gospel of the Nazarites", "The Essene Gospel", and "The Gospel of the Twelve" over a series of additions added to it over time with help of editors and his so called friends of socal order...lol.

Rev. Ouseley tried to establish also an order called "The Templers", but to no avail had members joined this order, so it became non-existant.

Continuing...

I could not find too much online about Ouseley, so therefore I researched on my own time in the library. I did find one important aspect on line though; Madam Blavatsky who was the owner and editor of "The Theosophist" magazine, for she wrote a note in her magazine on Ouseley's "A Suggestion" text he submitted and Blavatsky published. Although Ouseley's name is not mentioned, but does exist in his contribution of that volume:

EDITOR’S NOTE TO“DRAMA OF THE LATTER DAYS”

The Theosophist, Vol. V, No. 6(54), March, 1884, pp. 149-150

An unsigned contributor sent in an essay with the above title and with the sub-title “A Suggestion.” It is a clever satire, in dramatic form, depicting the return of Jesus and the reception he is accorded by the various Churches and Sects of Christendom. H. P. B. introduces it with the following remarks:

We hardly need to offer an apology to the English friend and author who sends us his “Suggestion” for reprinting it, without his special permission. It is too good to be lost for our readers. Only why should the writer, who seems to us quite impartial in other things, be so very partial to “Esoteric Christianity”? Surely, without in any way lowering down the Christ system, or even the ideal Christ, we can say what is but too easy of proof, that, properly speaking, there is no “Esoteric Christianity,” no more than there is Esoteric Hinduism, Buddhism or any other “ism.” We know of one Esoteric doctrine—“the universal secret Wisdom-Religion” of old. The latter embraces every one of the great creeds of the antiquity, while none of these can boast of having it in its entirety. Our mission is to gather all these scattered rays, bring them back to one focus, and thus help those who will come after us to unveil some day the glorious sun of Truth. Only humanity must be prepared for it—lest it should be blinded by the unexpected splendour. The true Theosophist, he who works for the sake of truth—not for his own self and personal predilections — ought to respect every religious system — pander to none. But then, perhaps the author is not a theosophist, yet, and as such, we welcome him as one, who, judging from his “Suggestion,” is on the high road of—becoming one.

Angel,

Christianity attacks anyone that comes up with anything that differs from its dogma. It has done it since Constantines Council and it continues to today. There is just as much basis for "The Gospel of the Holy Twelve" to be accepted as there is that for accepting the New Testament.

Biography: Rev. Gideon Jasper Richard Ouseley
M.A. 1835 - 1906

The Rev. Gideon Jasper Richard Ouseley was born in Lisbon on the 15th October, 1835, the younger son of Sir Ralph Ouseley, K.C.B., brought over to Ireland on the death of his father, 14th May, 1842, by relatives, and educated in Dublin University, in which he graduated in 1858. On the 9th of December, 1906 he passed away in his seventy-second year.

He was ordained as a clergyman of the Established Church by the Bishop of Down and Connor, and appointed Curate of Warren- point, Co. Down in 1861.He did not long remain in a Church in which he found himself to be in a false position; and in 1870, having voluntarily renounced all eating of flesh, strong drink and tobacco as inconsistent with the humanity and the true religion of Christ, as taught by Him and His apostles, he was received as a priest of the Catholic Apostolic Church.

Before his reception into the Catholic Church, he fully explained to the Prior his views and beliefs—which on no account would he abandon. The Prior said he did not find in that which he expressed anything contrary to the faith of the Catholic Church. “Why then,” asked the Rev. Ouseley, “does not the Church teach it?” To which the Prior replied, “You are not at liberty to say it is the teaching of the Catholic Church, but you are free to believe and hold your views as a pious opinion.”

It was in such circumstances that he sought to propagate his beliefs. His desire was to saturate and transmute the Church’s own formularies with the true teaching of Christ and His Humanitarianism. He set about revising the formularies in place of concealing them.

While he was not a sectarian and hated to be dubbed as such, he would work with all true reformers and good men who would try to bring the people into ways of righteousness and raise them out of their barbarous habits of flesh-eating, strong drinking, and cruelty of every sort and kind.

He considered that “the direct cause of poverty, bad health and social misery was due to flesh-eating, alcoholic drinking and tobacco smoking”. He saw in their abolition “the only effectual means of the world’s redemption, whether as regards men themselves or the animals”. “The true and proper food for man was that which Mother Earth brought forth in plenty for the sustenance of her children”.

He founded the Order of At-one-ment and United Templars Society, having for its motto: “One God, one Religion, various names, various forms.” Its object was to bring about a reconciliation of opposing ideas, things, persons, and systems; at-one-ing the human with the Divine, and man with God; by the Spirit of Christ within the soul.

On account of his views, the personal relationship between the reformer and his Church became strained; which led, in the first instance, to the Rev. Ouseley being suspended, and later to his being, literally, cast out of the Church. His views being called “Anti-Christian.”

This because, believing that he had been called to undertake this important mission, he set about to present to the world the hidden text “The Gospel of the Holy Twelve,” the Christian Dispensation pieced together from the most ancient and complete collection of Christian fragments, preserved in one of the Monasteries of the Buddhist monks in Thibet, where it was hidden by some of the Essene community for safety from the hands of the Corrupters and for the first time to be translated from the Aramaic. It was a translation of an original Aramaic document purporting to be a reconstruction and revision of the Gospel narrative.

Also because the contents of this most ancient Gospel set forth a higher moral and religious teaching, as the basis of the Christian Church, than any other that has come down to us, requires but the reading of eyes divested of prejudice, and the perception of a regenerate heart, and intelligent mind, to receive and appreciate that the Rev. Ouseley was undaunted in proclaiming the true religion of Christ.

One thing is unquestionable, he could not unaided by some Power higher than and above that of his normal intellect, have written this Gospel, and that such Power was of a Divine nature, is manifest from its contents. At the end of the Gospel are the words: “Glory be to God by Whose Power and help it has been written.”

It must not on this account be assumed that the original of which this Gospel is claimed to be a translation is of greater historical value than are the Four Gospels— none of which is historical in the sense commonly supposed—the object of all being to portray “the divine drama of the Spiritual history of man”—that is, of the Soul. But this Gospel has the advantage over the others in that it escaped the hands of the “Correctors” and “Corrupters” from which they suffered.

In 1905, he wrote to a friend, “I have finished my work and my destiny awaits me. They are ready to receive me”.
It seems that christian sites have a different story.

Peace

Origins of the Gospel of the Holy Twelve
The Original Gospel Record Revealed

This Gospel record is the recovered document from which the Four Gospels as we have them today were built upon. It was the first formulated life of the Christ and was written by St. John about the year 70 AD., when he was imprisoned in Rome and given page by page to one whom he could trust.

When the scroll was completed and after its contents had been made known to the Apostles, it was taken to Tibet by the same disciple, who left it in the care of a unnamed lama. Here, it remained until a friar, named Placidus, visited the monastery in the eighteen seventies and asked if he might show it to the Church Authorities in Rome.

The scroll was then given to him and on the way home, which took a long time, he translated a portion of it into Latin and on his arrival in Rome read it to the assembled Cardinals. At first they were impressed, but as he proceeded to reveal the contents they realised that to make it known would discredit the Church which had, during the Council of Nicea, eliminated from the Gospels the Master's teaching about the love and care of animals and about abstaining from eating flesh-foods. And so the scroll was hidden away in the archives of the Vatican, where it remains to this day.

The reason this Gospel contains much that is in St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke and St. John is because there were many Gospels written about this time containing the true teaching of Jesus, but this was the only one that escaped the pen of the `correctors', because they did not know of its existence.

The other Gospels contained the teaching of Jesus about the avoidance of meat-eating and about the love for animals, but all this teaching was eliminated by the `correctors'. "The Gospel of the Holy Twelve" is an authentic Gospel and should be accepted just as it is as the original teaching of Jesus.

This was C&P from a Essene site.

Isn't it funny that christians rebut articles about christianity from nonchristian sites because they think these sites are antichristian, but they continue to use articles from christian sites to attack Essene beliefs.

Peace

Christianity attacks anyone that comes up with anything that differs from its dogma.

I was not attacking Ouseley what so ever...I actually went and spent time researching and reading and relayed what he wrote and what others that knew him wrote at the time he was alive! You are welcome to do the same on your interest.

You can google all you want Sail on it and believe what was re-written in 1956 on his original pamplets and books. His work got corrupted over time and that is what the internet tells to us today.

Furthermore, the Austrian government got tired of those claiming to have access in Tibet of the so called Arabic writings that few claimed to have seen, but never brought the originals to the surface, and translated from that they did a thorough compelete investigation on it including going to Tibet and the Vatican themselves and including writings by Ouseley along with others including Edmund Szekely, Nicolas Notovitch and Blavatsky as well as Kingsford and Maitland.

When the government agents were finished their investigation, they found out these claims were all false. There was no substantial "evidence" to any of these claims they made.

These are facts Sail and you can believe your fairy tales all you want. Facts are facts. These were pseudo-Essene writers out to make a buck.

Kingsford was even barred from the society and her husband even left her cause of her indepth beliefs kept progressing her mentality level.

Here is an example of why christianity attacks this gospel.

The Gospel of the Holy Twelve Section 21:9 says:
9. And I say unto you, Though ye be gathered together in my bosom, if ye keep not my commandments I will cast you forth. For if ye keep not the lesser mysteries, who shall give you the greater.
The four christian gospels do not contain this verse. The Second Epistle of Clement, iv.5, however tells us that Jesus said:
"The Lord said: If ye be with me gathered together in my bosom and do not my commandments, I will cast you away and say unto you: Depart from me; I know you not whence ye are, ye workers of wickedness."

Seems that Clement is more in line with the "Gospel of the Holy Twelve" than the christian gospels.

Why don't these words of Jesus appear in the christian gospels?

Could it be that these words were removed from the christian gospels?

Well it is obvious. These words totally conflict with christian dogma that states that people are saved by professing the Lord to be their personal Lord and Savior. Works mean nothing to christians and they believe they can be saved without living in strict accord with the commandments of the God. This verse does not support the "once saved always saved" dogma pushed by christianity.
