Is Rock and roll music evil? I like rock and roll and have been told time and time again that it is music of the devil. Can someone please tell me why, and give points of veiw as to why I should support this point of veiw. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I believe music can be used for Good and bad influence much like words.
Is all music of a certain flavor bad ? I have to say no. Does hard rock carry some pretty twisted lyrics and lewd behavior. I would have to say yes it has its associations. There are those who will tell you country is the devils music as well. I would say the devil can also use christian music for his purposes to bend and twist. I believe the biggest problem with the issue you pose is Ignorence of men and religion and traditionalism. Some music does carry a spirit. some anger some hate some sexually provocative. some pure. I would say as with all else.
All things in moderation. And our ability to desern the spirit of the music in question can be a added deterent to bad choices. I play Lead guitar and enjoy A good jam on occassion I dont have to work my body in a bunch of suggestive ways to do it though. I say we all have choices to make and need to listen to our concience it will stear us rightly if we will follow it. Ask God to show you his take on it. he will.  The same words can be said of dancing. I would say their is both Good and bad. and as with music there is also beauty.

Well if you can compare the bible to rock music, the bible is by far the greatest cause of death and destruction. Bible verses telling you to put to death over and over is no better than trashcore grunge metal. Perhaps some bible inspired lyrics might put some music to the psychopathic religiosity spewed in the bible. However even if you compare who killed the most according to the bible, god vs. devil, God is the biggest murderer of all time.

Not sure if rock and roll is as bad as rap. Rap music can be very violent. Calling women ho's and killing cops, stuff like that. Couldn't we take scripture and do the same for that?

Oh, I see the weeds are growing again in the threads.
Let me state this....
"Music" causes no harm in any form. Music is not, can not and never was, is and will be harmful.
It is the perceiver that harms all.
Personally I would question the person who would "label" music.

Many of rock and roll's legends were inspired by the church music they grew up with.The infamous pelvis wiggle that was censored on Ed Sullivan was inspired in the Pentacostal tent revivals that young Elvis Presley grew up with.You can definately hear famiarity among the blood related in show business/gospel.Jimmy Swaggert/Mickey Gilley/Jerry Lee Lewis come to mind.Even atheistic John Lennon was influenced with church music and stated in an interview that black gospel music was one of his earliest musical influences.
So who influenced whom?
Probably the most absurd thing I ever heard uttered from Christianity was from a particularly anal fundie clan,the kind that read only the KJV(everything else is a "perversion") who believed that rock and roll,including the Christian variety,was of Satan because it carried a "sensual" beat.Only a fundie could find sin in what's for all intents and purposes a mathematical formula.

I have heard that they use to think this a long time ago.
Nowdays, rap is the bigger problem...
but I don't think the music makes an otherwise sane person do something. It's more the lifestle that's the influence...

I remember hearing whispers and squawks and protests like that back when I was a kid. I didn't have a CLUE what "sensual", "sexual" or even "grinding pelvis" meant! (It took me years before I figured it out and the lightbulb finally went off.  )
I've gotta say that a lot of video clips that I've seen on Youtube recently has opened my eyes. A lot of those gospel people get positively oragasmistic while singing their "praises"

Well, I haven't seen the orgasmic thing, sun. I don't think rock is evil, I think some of the lyrics are pretty bad. I love old rock. Christians even use comtemporary Christin music in the church. Even the old hymns at one time were contemporary.
I love contemporary Christian music.
Like you, I didn't know or notice anything obscene about Elvis. I thought he was just dancing. Now, when they grab their crotch like Michael Jackson does, I don't think there is any doubt, lol.
I don't care for rap, I never liked heavy metal music, but have always liked soft rock.
I thought I would post in here because I didn't think this post would bother anyone.
