SOC,
All you did with that post was to show how you place christian dogma before Jesus' words.
Ignorance is bliss for you. So be it.
Peace

There are far right and far left in every aspect of life.....from religion, our government, civil rights, unions......the list is endless. Anything that man touches gets screwed up by somebody. It is what it is. ANYONE.....that choose the "far" side of any subject is a little wacko!!!!! Life should be a happy medium....SHOULD be. But, it isn't...never will be.
The topic...prayer. Do I pray? Darn tootin'!!! Do I understand it? Nope,,sure don't. Are my prayers answered? It seems that some are...some I don't know...some I feel as if they were not. I don't think the "answer" is as important as the act. It is the act that centers me.....could possibly stir up answers within myself.....could stir up energy out there in places and spaces I know nothing about. ....it does something within me.......I need offer no further explanation.
I also believe that all good comes from that "all that is" that I choose to call God. That includes medicine. The twisted snake around a pole that doctors use as their symbol...was first used by the Moses and his followers in the 40 year journey in the desert. For protection.

naw... here it is either true or it isnt.
Prayer to a Watermelon is better than prayer to God, cos you get to eat the Melon if it doesnt give you what you want!

Knott.............
That.....Dear Man, is indeed your choice. I see no wrong in your choices............they are your's alone to make. I will reach my choices in the same way. In my own studies...in my own heart. {No, hammer...not the one that pumps blood through my body....} But the "spritual" one. The one that should foster love and understanding of all our differences....and still find a way to respect those differences.....regardless of how :"stupid" we think those choices are. Only I can decide the wisdom of my choices.....be they wrong or be they right. Anything else is only another's opinion....... and as is oft mentioned here.....we know what those are like.........

Lois, you get a BIG WOW for this statement. could possibly stir up answers within myself. Finally a Christian demonstrating turning inward for answers. Wait until Hunt sees this one. He hates the self which explains a lot of his issues. But hey, where else do you exist but within? Where else would answers be but within? Where else would anything resonate but within? Prayer in this sense is much like of what Thomas Merton taught. Merton was a Trappist Monk who was very close friends with the Daili Lama. Merton incorporated much Buddhist learnings into his Christian meditations. It wasn't about asking for miracles but more contemplation and meditation.
I also believe that all good comes from that "all that is" that I choose to call God. You choose to call god means you consciously assign a name tag to what you want to categorize. Even I myself say things like "Oh my god" or "god bless you" or "God damnit".
That includes medicine. Medicine is like god to someone whose life was saved by medicine.
The twisted snake around a pole that doctors use as their symbol...was first used by the Moses and his followers in the 40 year journey in the desert. For protection. Actually that snake is before moses. Its from Hermetic Mysticism, a symbol of peace and messenger of the gods.
Snakes appear immortal because they shed their skin. A perfect "born again" motif found in nature.

Thanks, Hammer.........I did not know that about the snake thingy....I'l look it up.
My greatest belief is the "spark" within. I "think" that things we can't even imagine could be stired up by that spark within.

Lois,
you should worship the Sun. You'll get the same results but at least you can see the Sun. Wear a bikini and we shall worship you too

That's the extent of it, though. It certainly is not but if you choose to believe that then go right ahead.

Lois,
Good post.

It is the act that centers me.....could possibly stir up answers within myself.....could stir up energy out there in places and spaces I know nothing about. ....it does something within me.......I need offer no further explanation. Yes. In eastern religions many chant to acheive what you are talking about. Western religions tend to call it prayer. The channeling of positive energy in metaphysics is very similar also.
There are powers that man has yet to truly identify and the extent of these powers has not be determined.
I feel that no matter what you call it, the important thing is how it contributes to positive forces at work within a person. Positive forces within a person tend to manifest positive external actions.
Peace

noooooo........ its not my choice. It is the facts. Yes it is your choice and your belief. If it is proof you want then the burden is on you, has been on you, and will continue to be on you.

Seal....
What dont you understand:
God is a gallon of Milk sitting on the counter top.
Prayer to the Gallon of milk and ask for the pain to go away in my neck.
Outcomes:
Pain goes away... Gallon of Milk has answered my prayers.
Pain remains.... Gallon of Milk has its reasons why not to answer my prayers.
Pain has spasms.... we don't always get what we want.. I don't question why.
Doesnt matter what you prayer too the outcomes will always be the same.
The God delusion.
Prove it isnt so.

Why milk? I would think christians would be more comfortable praying to a bowl of "baked ziti".
It is composed of three things pasta, cheese and sauce. A trinity.
Also the pasta sauce can represent the blood of christ.
Now that I think of it, there are those that already worship the "Flying Spaghetti Monster".

Peace

But milk is made up of protein, fat, and carbohydrate so the is a trinity there also.
And it is white as snow.
