I thought, to get things on more postive note, I thought I would start a thread where you could recount something nice that someone had done for you. Since this the R&S section, it would be great if it had a religous tie-in, but is not really necessarry.
For me, when I was going to school and was dirt-poor, I ran out of gas on the way to town. A guy from church, stopped and gave me a ride and bought me some gas, and took me back to my car. They were on their way yo yhr movies, (I think it was Superman II) and helping me out was going to make them miss part of the show, but they did it anyway.

Last October I was walking from San Antonio to Corpus Christie. (Not unusual as I go walk about and dont own a car ) At about 4:30 in the morning two workers in a pick up stopped and said.... "...we had to stop because we can see a golden halo around you."
"I just shrugged." They asked where am I headed, etc., so I accepted their lift out of kindness. During the chat whilst traveling they got onto religion and remarked they actually saw this light around me then... crunch..... "Jesus told us to give you a lift!"
They asked what Church I went too, so I told them I dont because I am a Buddhist. Absolute silence!
"Well, we had to stop and see you because of the light!"
This is absolutely true!
Must have been the full moon reflecting off my white shirt.

Lance, Buddhists dont worship. In the main it is all monasteries, nunneries and temples. They are places of practice, learning and meditation.

I bought a car about 6 yrs ago and I had gotten scammed on the car as the transmission had went out after owning it for only 3 months. I wasn't able to pay for a new transmission at the time so I went without the car for 6 months until I could save up the money to fix it. Meanwhile a young guy at our church had become unemployed and offered to take me back and forth to work during that time. That was awesome so I wouldn't lose my job..eh? last January I remember driving to church with my teenage daughter and thinking how tired I was of having to always fix the car...plus it was dead in the winter and the heat quit working too. We got to church and a new couple who had started coming to our church from Colorado approached me. I had never complained about the heater not working to anyone. They handed me some keys and said I had a new car parked outside! It was beautiful! A newer model and had extra low mileage on it. They said they felt like God was leading them to give the car to me. My daughter and I just cried and to top it all off??!! The pastor paid for car insurance for me for a little over a year!! They were being doers of the word and not just hearers. This was something good for us...very good...

Similar to your story Lance I was on the interstate highway with my two young kids in my pickup. That trucks fuel gauge didnt work so I had to keep track of the mileage every time I filled up but ran empty regardless. It was cold so I told the kids to stay in the truck while I try to flag someone down. A good samaritan stopped, drove us 14 miles to the next exit, took me to the gas station where I bought some gas and a container.Because it was the interstate he had to go back to another exit, about 20 miles to turn around and take me back to my truck. He was taking his kids to a hockey game and wouldnt accept anything I offered him for his trouble.
My next one is different.I was bad. I had just come from the airport after passing my VFR license and was a bit excited.I had a huge Ford 4x4 truck, you know the kind with the elevated suspension.I was going up a steep hill and stopped at the stop sign. When I couldnt see any traffic coming I kicked her down and smucked right into the back of a small car I couldnt see because of the angle and the height of my truck and in honesty,I was concentrating on just getting my pilots license. I followed the lady I hit into a nearby lot and proceeded to give her my name and insurance co. She got out of her car, gave me one of those Jehovah Witness brochures they always leave at your door step, told me she forgave me and got back into her car and drove off.

16knots, in your preoccupation to say something negative about Christianity, you failed to conceal something.
Who do those 2 numbskulls serve?

My story:
I was working the evening shift and got off work around 11:00. I had some things to pick up so I was headed to WalMart when I had a blow out on my front tire.
I limped the car to a parking lot of an office complex (in a not too savory neighborhood) and attempted to change the tire. Since the lug nuts had been tightened with an air wrench, I was not strong enough to break them loose.
Frustrated and upset, I say in the car and dialed AAA, when a pick-up pulled up. The driver (security for the complex) was an old man who could not help me because he had recently had bypass surgery. He told me he would make his rounds and keep his eye on me.
A short while later he pulled up and handed me a Coke from McDonald's. "I thought you might be thirsty", he said. He then sat with me until AAA showed up to change my tire.
I have never forgotten the kindness of that old man and the way that Coke tasted.

and helping me out was going to make them miss part of the show, but they did it anyway. One good aspect of them missing part of the show is they can stay seated and see what they missed in the next showing. If it was man and wife, they could smooch and even get that xlarge popcorn and drinks while one saves a seat during the intermission wait period.

Just the other day I went to Commerce Bank. They have a coin arcade. I always wind up with lots of change at the end of the month. So I go to the machine and dump my change. The machine asks you to guess what you got. If you get it you wind a prize. So I guessed wrong. I went to the teller to get my money and I asked her what I would have won. She gave me a free water bottle anyway. I really needed that for my mountain bike, it matched the color too. I was so happy and wished her a nice day. But I would have wished her a nice day anyway. See? It all works out in the end....

A few years ago on a solo cross country trip westward, I took US Highway 50, "The Lonliest Road in America" through Utah and Nevada to here. I blew the engine in my van about 10 or 20 miles from the Nevada border in the middle of the night ...and only maybe 5 cars passed me all night long -- I'd at least been able to pull way off the road, so I'll bet they just thought I was resting. (Yep, I was kind of scared, but I armed myself with a spray can of Liquid Wrench and a monster screwdriver while I got a couple of hours of much needed sleep )
Early the next morning a very nice grandma tapped on my window and scared the heck out of me...but she gave me a ride to the nearest (ONLY) gas station/cafe way down the road after I locked up my filled-to-the-brim van. Her cell phone couldn't get service way out in the middle of nowhere, and I needed to get to a phone to find help...she was delightful, but had to get on her way after we had coffee and I didn't dare abandon my van for more than a few hours.
While I was waiting at the cafe, trying to contact the highway patrol and get permission for a Nevada tow truck to rescue me from the Nevada side of the border into Utah (a frustrating ordeal), a very nice eldery-ish couple came up to me and started chatting. They offered prayers for me, for my van, and for my situation, along with scripture quotes (which I politely avoided, since the last vehicle Jesus rode had four legs, not four wheels and a @#$%& blown engine ) They decided to wait with me until the tow truck came, which was cool (and they didn't even admonish me too often about my smoking, lol). They were very nice, even though I picked up immediately that they were on a "salvation mission" of sorts -- I just smiled and let them do their thing...and steered the conversation to some of the local geology and the drought that was driving the few farmers away (that was actually interesting -- I love old timers).
Before the tow truck got there, something happened that disturbed me, though. While it sounds thoughtful and lovely, they offered to put the towing on their Triple A card.
~Ahem~ I used to work for Triple A, and what they were proposing was fraud, plain and simple (I used to do investigations)...it's cheating! And these dear charitble Christian people knew it! They said they know of people who do it all the time. ~sigh~ I felt really bad as I had to be a bit firm in my refusal, although I thanked them profusely for the thought. I told them that meant a great deal to me, but I just couldn't be party to them breaking the "Thou shalt Not Steal" law...something I feel strongly about.
It was a little awkward for me as well as them, but we did part with hugs and with good graces and best wishes and all. Of course I beat myself up later for sticking to my principles -- after I was handed the $220 towing bill ...but I slept well that night anyway, knowing I'd done the right thing (and for the rest of the week in an antique hotel in the little town of Ely, because there was no way out of there ~augggh~ not even a rental car -- until my brother could make the 500 mile round trip to haul me and my van back in a trailer on the weekend).
I truly appreciated the good hearted people...but not the thought of the "bending the rules" dishonesty. It hurt me to see the double standard...especially after all the scripture quotes. (I kind of hoped they could help out the next person who needed help and AAA -- but it just couldn't be me, because I knew the rules.)

the lady that I work for ( I take care of her mom) gave me $140.00 to go towards a friend of mines funeral costs since his family refused to pitch in..( he hasn't passed yet, but we wanted "things" taken care of before he did.)
I cried all the way home... she called me this morning just to tell me that she found out that she actually knew some of his extended family.. that made it even more special for me..

Last week my car wouldn't start (again) And somehow through the grapevine my car guys heard about it. They drove out to my house, searched under rocks, window sills and other supurb hiding places until they found my house key. Searched around my house until they found my car keys, towed it, took it to the shop and had that baby back in my garage before I got home. Working. For free.
I flipping love living in a small town. They also left a dirty cake pan in the sink from the chocolate cake they took with them.

Way back when, I'd been working pretty much around the clock for three weeks, and finally got a night off. Being young and absolutely stir crazy, I arranged for my sons to stay over at my girl friend's place and set up a date with the guy I was seeing at the time. Totally exhausted, I slept through the alarm for the date, also the phone calls from my date...he saw that my car was parked outside so he rang the bell...I slept thrugh that too. At this point he told me he was really getting worried, so he picked the lock. He saw me sleeping peacefully, so he sat down and watched me sleep all night...when he saw me stirring he made breakfast and served me breakfast in bed, complete with a flower in a glass.
He also helped me install a deadbolt lock on the door.

Sounds like a date with a friendly cat burglar Actually he was working as a security guard during summer vacation - he was attending university at Caen, which was where he lived....he did end up taking a semester off though...

Tilly - he's the kind of guy I've always hoped my friends get to have in their lives, even if it's just for awhile...just so they know how good life can be!
