Just had a look at the Politics Forum and one of the threads are discussing "Guns."
Would like to know peoples opinion on the rights to own weapons yet follow religious beliefs.
Or, religions and the practice of fighting techniques as in unarmed combat and armed combat.
Is it contradictory?

I don't own a gun nor can I see myself having one. As I have love and compassion for all sentient beings, I would never shoot anything.
However, it is a personal choice and if a person feels it is right for them, then that is their right.
I will I've done some target shooting in the past and it was fun.

Being now that I found Jesus I say a bible in one hand and a sword (gun) in the other unless its a rifle, then the bible goes into my pocket.

Katt, I can only hope it wouldn't ever come to that.
I would lay down my life for those I love.

No need to shoot to protect if you don't have the gun in the first place.
I would give my life, but I don't think I could take one.....intentionally.
Even an unintentional act of killing saddens me....like that turtle I ran over the other day.

goose just have to post the first part...
You might be shocked to hear this but I really believe that Jesus would be a member of the National Rifle Association. Jesus is, unlike our towel-head-muslim-terrorist counterparts, all against violence. Jesus is love, but does it say anywhere in the Bible that there is something wrong with self defence? NO, of course not! God and His son Jesus Christ believe in self defense. Statistics say that firearms are used purely for self defense in 80% of all shootings. So, why do liberals claim that Jesus would be against guns? That is nonsense of course. Jesus loves guns and Jesus wants you to have guns. Loving, compassionate human beings.

Is it contradictory? I've wondered about this. If a religion is supposed to be "peaceful". WHy do you find terminology like "Christian Warrior."
And Eastern philosophy/religions having things such as "wushu."

Sadly Goose, the real Shalin Monks all but left long ago. Some coming to the US. One "Communist born" Shaolin Monk actually defected to the USA during a tour some years ago.
The Chinese have caught on to an industry based on passed history which I doubt will never be revived again.
There is an International organization HQ'd here in the States and clubs are all over the place. More martial arts and less Buddhism unfortunately.

Wasn't martial arts originally used used to train the mind as well as the body?
I mean, I'm sure it still is to an extent, but it seems the focus is all on the body now and how it can become a lethal weapon.

Weve always lived in a world of confusion, problems, hatred, and turmoil. We face opposition from many directions, even when we try to follow Christ. However, no matter what circumstances surround us, God offers us the joy of salvation even after having to take a life with a weapon. Contrary to what some believe,God isnt as stupid as we are. On another thread I mentioned that if someone were to assault my daughter they had better hope the law catches them before I do.Yes,I would use a gun if one was needed, but whats the difference if I hurt or kill someone with a gun or my hands? None to God,the difference is in its reason for doing so.
For any of you that think being religious means being unconcerned about ourselves, our community or our world to the point we wont protect either with a weapon, youve mixed up religion with whatever crap you can dig up that was said by certain religious people. Religious people walk different paths in life the same way the non-religious do.
Using a weapon in defense of an innocent life isnt a sin. Using one in protection of more innocent lives isnt either.

Violence only breeds more violence. That's one reason our world is the way it is.
As stated before, i would die to protect the ones I love, but I'm not going to sit around thinking about it and attracting all the negative karma that comes along with these thoughts.
Protection does not mean killing.
