I would just like to point out the difference between judging a person's character versus complaining about bad behavior.
bev has spent a lot of time accusing me of judging, and I feel like I have shown pretty good restraint, given the amount of judging she has sent my way.
Sometimes, you can get caught up into listening to the banter and not really stop to sort out the difference.
When someone says "You are luke- warm" or "You don't know God" that is judging someone's character.
If someone says "What you are saying is not true" or "You are being condescending" that is complaining about behaviour.
Judging someone else is not appropriate. I won't say I have never done it, but I do try hard to bite my tongue and not do it. It is very tempting to tell bev, "You are a not a real Christian and a miserable excuse for a human being" but that would be wrong to say. Despite the plethora of evidence that she offers up, it is not my place to weigh that evidence and then try to judge her heart.
It is a fruitless effort. Even if you make that leap, what do you gain? If I say "hunt, you are an a$$hole" what would it accomplish? Even if he is receptive to criticism, a general statement of character give him nothing to work with. If I say "hunt, when you told Sail he was going to hell because his beliefs are different, you were out of line" he may think about the incident and see himself in a different light.
You have to be allowed to complain about bad behavoir. It is one thing to say "You're kid is a brat" that is liable to ruffle some feathers, but you HAVE to be able to say "tell your kid to quit kicking my leg"
As a Christian, I have been embarrassed by the behavoir of some of the "Christians" that have been on here berating people. My first instinct is to say "Don't bother with them, they aren't real Christians" but I can't do that because I would be labeling/judging them. My second instinct is to apologize for them. I can't do that either. I am not responsible for them, and if I try to take on that responsibility, I will become liable for every stupid thing that comes out of their mouths.
All you can really do is explain that their behavoir is bad, and what they are saying is wrong and not in line with the teachings of the Christ.
It is, and I have.

Sssshhhh This is Cyber space no one can judge another's character only their words.
Do not judge least you be judged is a refrain I wonder why those you mentioned do not follow?
The Christianity those you spoke of is not the ideal of the original Christianity that the Romans and the Church after being relocated to Rome espoused..
There are no devout Christians in the truest sense of the word....

Never fear Lance....not only do I, but people of many different faiths on this site acknowledge your belief in your God. And if you notice, people really don't go for your throat.
Your respectful, you love you God as HE intended, and for those two reasons alone...I read your posts and I am not a Christian.
I have found you to be an excellent witness for your Lord, and if I could stomach standardized religion, I would actually go to church with you.

Character is the way one behaves when no one is looking.

LOL, well actually I don't go to church much. I used to go alot out of a sense of obligation, but a couple of years ago, I decided I would only go if I felt inclined. I do my religion mostly just with close friends.

I'm a "character oriented" type of person. I can take or leave different behaviors (if I want to) if I trust and like the person's character.
Some behaviors, though, reveal the true character behind the facade of the person, in a negative way -- those hypocrites are the lowest types in my esteem.

I have wishes that SOC would not get so upset with other Christian friends because they disagree with one here.
Love for the Lord should be all encompassing, forgiving and fair.
