The summertime has always been accompanied by spiritual rest + refreshment for me.
Does anyone else find spiritual comfort + summertime walk hand-in-hand??

I persoannly find Springtime the refreshing season since the land regrows.

Also, Easter is in Spring and with that the rebirth and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Summers in Alabama are too darn hot to do anything but sweat.

No, not for me or anyone down here in my neck of the woods, except perhaps school children. Think of it as the opposite to where you live. Summer is a miserable time down here in the south, from late May to November we have triple digits, miserable humidity and afternoon storms that you can set your watch by. The thunderstorms can actually make for a good light show as long as you don't have to be in them. Hurricanes are miserable.

Late fall and winter are the best seasons down here and it's the same in Southern California. Much better out there in the winter than the southeast coast because of the lack of humidity. LA in the winter is nice, or it was when I was out there.

I usually get anything BUT rest in the summer. My work often puts me out in the mess and it is really taxing on the body, especially when you're over 40.

I understand why it's good for you northern folk. I sometimes envy you guys for the seasonal changes that we don't get down here, and snow is pretty, but I don't envy you having to be in it, shoveling driveways and such. My wife is from Ottawa and she tells me I wouldn't do well up there in the winter.

Now I love long walks on the beach when there's a nice breeze coming off the ocean, that's great for reflecting and meditating. Our rivers are nice for that too, my town is bisected by the St. John's which is lovely and provides the city of Jacksonville with a very pretty sputher skyline, especially at night since they added all of those lights on the bridges for the 2005 Super Bowl.

Ever been down here, SoC? You would like our autumn and winter, but I think you would be miserable here in the summer.

Summer is my favorite...as I enjoy the water.
But, the beginning of each season brings a peace to me. Fall for the colors, winter for the first snow and Christmas, spring for the peaceful rains and cleansing of the winter residue.

Okay...I confess...my words were not really correct. UAB, Thor; you both remind me of this fact.

Spring is the refreshing season.

I guess the opinion I expressed was greatly influenced by the 8-day vacation I just enjoyed in the vacation-region of northern Ontario.

My sister + her husband took me up to their brand new cottage on the Lake of Bays, 2-hours north of Toronto.

I greatly enjoyed their hospitality + generosity. I enjoyed the fruits of a different, more affluent lifestyle for a while.

I agree with you both though. Summer in the city is not a real refreshing time for the spirit.

No, Thor...never been there in the summer. Driven through a few times on my way to Florida when I was in school. But each of those drives were made in the late-winter. (March break.)

The hot weather is a treat to me---especially when escaping the bitter cold.

I'm not much of a snow-person. (But I do enjoy the great diversity in weather of southern Ontario. I love to hate winter. Somehow makes Spring more enjoyable. )

SOC, I understand your heart's good, but I honestly believe you must be off your gourd to live in a place that measures snow in feet!

I lived in Conneticut for nine months while attending the USCGA, and I saw a river freeeze over!

I became one of the few Alabamiama qualified to operate a Mk1Mod0 snow shovel.

Virginia and the crazy driving during winter wasn't much better.

Keep your winters, and God can have the Alabama summers.

Gimme back my Costa Rica weather any day. 80ish F with 80% humidity and a 98% chance of rain daily...ahh that was the life!

I can live with my Phoenix summers (which are not refreshing by any stretch of the imagination) to never have to worry about shoveling snow, driving on ice, surviving floods and tornados...all we have here are monsoons, but I can deal with that. It brings up visions of floods, and actually Phoenix IS on a flood plain, but given our drought going back as far as anyone can remember, it's usually more wind than anything else. We're going to have isolated/scattered T-storms all week, so I may get a chance to watch the light show and only pray there are no power failures. If so I'll go back to thinking about going solar while I'm floating in the pool, just daring that lightning bolt to hit me.

p.s. UAB - never mind a river - I was born in Cooperstown NY in December of 1943, the worst winter in 100 years there...went to 40 below without wind chill, and we were snowed in until April, at the top of a mountain with only a dirt road. My parents broke up furniture for firewood and boiled snow for water...and baby was raised by the book - outside for an hour a day. I'll take my sun and heat very gladly indeed!

But thinking about it further, I go back and embrace the title of the thread.

Due to my role as full-time volunteer at a public school, I enjoy 2 1/2 months of uninterrupted vacation.

While I'm crazy about the little bug...s, after 10 months of surrounding myself with them, I'm can really use the down-time.

It refreshes me.

This may not be a universal benefit. But I know at least one other person whose favourite season is summer. (Right Loreli?? )

80 F is tolerable but about 8 degrees too warm for me and humidity is something I can live without. I don't care for snow except maybe to experience the joys of winter sports like ice skating and skiing, both things I've missed out on being in the south. I tried ice skating for the first time at an indoor rink. Loved it and I look forward to trying it when we visit my father in law in Ottawa. Never tried snow skiing and I look forward to attempting it. I'll probably bust my butt big time!

Last time I went snow skiing was at Wachussetts Mt, Mass.

I was 8 years younger and 60 pounds lighter at the time.

I bust my butt so hard that a twelve year old had to help me off the mountain.

Fortunately, I got laid that night!

The first good snow of the season was always breath taking to me. Almost magical.

Then, it could have went away!
I always loved Spring and Fall when I was where seasons changed like that.

Really, if you don't have to go out in it, winter is beautiful. To sit by a fire, telling stories, or just thinking really did me good.
then come Feburary, I knew I had to have sun quick though!

Now, we have what I call the off season, and then summer. Warm around 70 to 80 every day. An ocean breeze.

Every season has it's own rewards if you get off you buns, go outside and enjoy nature.

Frankly I have lived where winters got down to -55 summers to 130 and in between 70 to 80% humidity. It is all about your physical conditioning.and acclimation to varying cycles. Knowing how to dress, how often to drink fluids, protect your skin and knowing how long to expose yourself to conditions is needed.

My favorite is the fall. We don't experience much of a seasonal change in Florida, but traveling about 6 hours north to Gatlinburg,Tennessee is a favorite Autumn vacation resort. People travel from all over to experience the change of colors in the mountain foliage, it is absolutely gorgeous. I shot some lovely Kodachrome super 8 home movies up there back in 1991.

My oldest daughter was about 3 when we took her there and told her the leaves changed colors. She didn't understand that it was a gradual process and stared intently at the trees expecting them to instantly change colors like a Christmas tree light.

Springtime in Paris, wintertime in the West Indies at 72 degrees, Summertime in the mountains (Big Bear Calif) and the Fall any place that has the full four seasons with good weather.

Follow the Sun and follow the Snow wherever it may lead there is always the opposite of our weather some where else!

Thanks for reminding me of the beauty of autumn Thor.

It is a pretty nice season too.

When that time comes, are you going to post some of those photos in your personal page?? I'd love to see those hills in the Fall. (I don't think I'll ever get there in-person. )

Hadn't thought of that, SoC, but that's a great idea. Just have to dig up all of those old reels and start electronically tranferring them to MPEG files.

Yep, it's spiritual as well as physical with me.
