Can't remember if I ever posted this here or not, but I have on other forums. Here it is again.
Saw a documentary on gender dysphoria and sexual reassignment.What's interesting is that many of these people claimed to go through a stage in life where they tried to live as their birth gender and submerge their real feelings in religion.One man, who is now a woman on the show said that he met his wife through a church group, but he said, later, he found that he could not hide his "true" self anymore and had to go through sexual reassignment or he felt that he would've committed suicide.Church or religion couldn't change what he felt inside.
I forget the exact numbers of people who suffer gender dysphoria, but they were significant enough not to dismiss such people as flakes or weirdos who just need a good shrink.What will traditional religion do with this phenomena?I have a friend who is transgender and has been ostracized from several churches she has tried to join with her family.What's the spiritual side here?I know there are some who would say that these people were their desired genders in a former life.OK, if that's so, then what happened to make them born the "wrong" sex to begin with?

I'm curious why your friend needs to belong to any church group that we know is a fertile place for all kinds of bigotry for things far less profound than gender dysphoria. Many Christians should be able to relate to those of gender dysphoria because they too make claims they have this inner feeling of God and Jesus (who is a myth btw) so why not accept someone else's testimony of their own "inner feeling"? They are hypocrites.
Young homosexuals and transsexuals have a high rate of suicide because religious influence causes them extreme guilt and self loathing. Religion does that to everyone but is more pronounced in this group. They can't help how they feel and they are told they are doing evil because of their desires and thoughts. Young unformed minds are destroyed by religion in all cases but especially for those who have gender issues. It seems Christians could care less about helping someone be who they really are but to create little dogma robot to destroy the world.

I can cite a couple of examples of that for you, too. I talk to a man in New Zealand who is not a minister. He was going through gender reassignment, had had part of the surgery, that he said had somehow damaged the trunk of his penis. Not being a man or a doctor, I don't quite understand that part, you men probably will. He went to a psychologist and did a big turn around, changed his mind. He has a girlfriend that he adores, and has no more desire to be a woman. Now this was not a Christian thing, but it is an example.
Now, I have been talking to a man in Houston who wants the surgery. He is totally attracted to other men. He lives as a woman. Now, this man likes to work on cars, repair appliances, do all those male things, but wants to be a woman.
This man is having menstrual periods, he says. Psychological, maybe, but I fear it is a physical thing, since he still has a penis and no uterus to make him have periods. It is possible that it is psychological, but it is also possible that he might have something wrong.
Now, your thoughts on this. I know some men are chromosonally women, that I understand, but what about the ones who aren't? Food for thought and maybe discussion.

I will add this thought. My mom, when she was growing up, always wanted to be a boy. She even put a straw up inside herself and left it there because someone told her it would make her grow a penis, make her a boy.
Well, as she grew older, the fact remained that she was a GIRL. She accepted that fact, learned to love being a girl and later a woman and was the most beautiful, feminine woman, a real lady, that you could ever meet, and had no more desire to be a boy.
Do you think maybe a lot of this is just accepting ourselves for what and who we are?

Now, your thoughts on this. I know some men are chromosonally women, that I understand, but what about the ones who aren't? Food for thought and maybe discussion. That is why real psychologists treat these people and observe them for a year or two before surgery. Talking to someone like you would just cause more damage since you're aren't a qualified mental health professional. You pretty much are more sick than they are. Unfortunate for them to have any contact with someone like you. You have no hold on reality and have no higher education in any helping profession.
I will add this thought. My mom, when she was growing up, always wanted to be a boy. She even put a straw up inside herself and left it there because someone told her it would make her grow a penis, make her a boy.  Mental illness obviously runs in families. Thats a statistical fact.

Lol, hammer, you are just full of it, poor fellow. I bet there are lots of women in here who wanted to be boys when they were young, just outgrew it. I always loved being a girl, so I wasn't one of them, but, believe me, there are some.

You see, hammer, it has always been acceptable for little girls to want to be a boy, to act like a boy, to be a tomboy. It has never been acceptable for little boys to want to be a girl, or act like a girl, they never have a chance to outgrow that like women do. It is all right for a woman to have a masculine side and do male things, but not so easy to for a man to have a feminine side and like to do female things,

I feel sorry for those poor folks who come in contact with you in person. Someone should throw a net over you and throw you in a rubber room. You can only inflict more pain on the suffering. This is your wonder and joy of toxic faith.

Naw, cyn, she was a wonderful woman, and ALL woman. She used to tell that story and laugh. You have to remember this was back in the thirties.
You didn't allow your girls to be tomboys?

Gee, my girls had horses, motorcycles, basketballs, baseballs and bats, played softball, could climb all the trees they wanted, play with cars and trucks, whatever they wanted to do. They are all woman now.
My son could have played with his sisters dolls if he had wanted, but all he ever did with them was take apart the ones who ate or talked to see how they worked. He preferred boy things, but that was his choice. He is a total man, now.

They are still young and play softball, basketball and every other sport you can think of...but so do all the girls now in school. So sports is not seen as a "boy" thing.
But as far as "pretending" or wanting to be a boy, no, no desire for that.

Not now, it is not considered a boy thing, but it once was. That is what I was talking about.
Boys are not allowed to do girl things without it reflecting on them. What do you think of a boy who takes dance in school? What about boys who want to be hairdressers? A stewardess?
A woman can be or do anything she wants without any fear of being labeled as different. Men are not allowed that luxury.
Lol, if mine wanted to be a boy when they were young, I wouldn't have worried about it, from knowing my mom, I would have known that it would pass if I left it alone.

Look at the sickness in her posts displaying absolutely no knowledge of the stages of development in children. Every psychology undergrad learns about that. Its basic stuff she has no knowledge of. And then she perpetrates pretending to be a psychologist.

The girls both take gymnastics at a really wonderful place and it is mostly dominated by girls. When they were much younger and took dance (not for years now) I recall one or 2 boys in the class. .

Gender roles are cultural and changing. That means boys taking dance doesn't mean they're gay. Not all male hairdressers are gay, in fact, many are womanizers. Its a real easy way to meet girls. Girls who are tomboys doesn't predict they will be lesbians. None of these things dictates sexuality but sticking a straw up one's vagina does indicate a problem just as would a man sticking a dog whistle up his ass.

I LOVE to do home improvments. Work outside. Jim loves to cook. Big time. And he's great at it. He also loves babies and wouled play with them all day if given the chance. And he freely admits to crying in his blogs.
Not sure how you came up with that one.

Really? As a 43 year old unmarried woman who works on her own home, I have heard the word "dyke" or "gay" more times than I can count.
Where do you get these ideas?

Thor, not knowing a whole lot about DNA myself, but the idea of two people getting married that have the kind of DNA that would make this happen to their children? Does that make any sense?
As far as religions go, I personally would welcome a person like this into a fellowship.
