Now I'm not trying to lump all christians into one catagory, but in these threads a few people stand out in their belief that once you have accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you've got a golden ticket for eternity.
While this has been mentioned many times, I think it bares mentioning again. Many of us are reformed christians. We are not the unknown or uninitiated. We have walked down those red carpets to drink the Jesus juice and eat the God snacks in a previous time and have found huge chunks if not all of that particular faith to be nothing more thank bunk.
But....since I went that route once...according to them, I've still got a golden ticket!!! I was saved (or whatever you want to call it) could chant along with the best of them, and even learned how to ignore huge chunks of the bible like the rest of the greats.
The only difference is, I lead a much more giving life now. I continue to obsorb all the knowledge that surrounds me and not just chosen words out of one book. A compilation written from numerous authors, none of which where written by the man and God that it talks about.
And according to them, one of my ancestors ate from a tree of knowledge and passed that little blessing onto me. I think it would be shameful to waste that.
So while I still have this golden ticket in my back pocket, I will continue to educate myself and make my world a better place. And to be honest....I think the powers that be smile down on this little woman from Wisconsin and are pleased with the way she has chosen to live her life.
"Do you as an ex-christian feel that you still possess your golden ticket and have lost your "free will" to determine your afterlife destination"? yeeeaaaah. I forgot that part....

I have to agree with GH.
Though the OP sets a great basis on debating the concept of "once saved, always saved", it should have contained a question addressed to a specific group.
If the OP ended with:
"So as a christian do you believe that ex-christians still are in possession of the Golden ticket"?
or
"Do you as an ex-christian feel that you still possess your golden ticket and have lost your "free will" to determine your afterlife destination"?
Either of these are good solid debatable topics.
Peace

I'm guessing if there is a god, he/she/it has realized by now that he/she/it should have maybe given this free will thing coupled with having to follow some exact regimen to gain access to the heavenly hereafter a little more thought in the beginning, and by now is grading on the curve!!

Once saved always saved might just mean Christians won't harass you anymore even if you're later become a serial killer, you still have accepted Jesus. Why not since its faith and not behavior that really counts? Some serial killers even become ministers in jail. There are criminals that actually pray to god from a successful crime. Perhaps God would help things along by preventing the victim from fighting back.
Christians generally are intellectually inferior and logically challenged as well as culturally narrow minded. We know these are not very spiritually evolved people. Christians were never known for that and they likely never will be.

As a Catholic, I don't believe in "once saved". Catholics believe that Jesus opened the door and it is up to us all (that means everyone) to decide if we want to do the work necessary to walk through it. In otherwords, it is our choice to be a good person, to do good for others, to make the planet a better place. And because we don't subscribe to the once saved doctrine, some will say that we are not in fact Christian.
And to that I say

Your "golden ticket" is earned by doing alot more then drinking your "Jesus juice" or eating "Gods snacks" and "saying" that you once accepted Jesus. Its also earned by the good your doing for society. So,your right..the powers that be smile down on this little woman

Jesus is married to the backslider. He is the good sheperd, He always comes after his sheep that have strayed.

Levels in heaven too? Are their any levels that offer subsidized housing? What about doorman and maid service at the higher levels? What's a good tip to leave?

East,
In 2 Corinthiains 12:2 Paul mentions seeing a "third heaven" but doesn't describe heaven as having levels. What Paul actually meant is not clear since this chapter of Corinthians is where Paul goes off the deep end and writes about his visions and revelations of Jesus.
So you are right that the bible does not say that heaven has multiple levels. But Paul's delusional discription of a third heaven cannot eliminate the posibility that he considered heaven to have multiple distinct areas.
Peace

Bev,
He is the good sheperd, He always comes after his sheep that have strayed. I'm interested in what you believe is the source of this concept of sheep and shepherd. The idea reflects in the OT, but many of the powerful patriarchs in the bible were princes or viziers to Mesopotamian/Babylonian and Egyptian rulers.
These rulers came from a tradition that the ruler was a shepherd called from guarding the flock to the rule his people on his fathers death. Many stories sell Abraham as a shepherd...history shows him to be a crown prince in Ur/Babylon whose father Terah lost the throne in a coup led by his father against him.
Abraham moved his line and linked it to kingship in Egypt where he can be found in Egyptian history under ten or more names...some show up in the bible stories. I know this bangs hard against what you have been told...you would have been stuck with your story if they hadn't started digging stones and scrolls out of the desert sand in the 1820s.
And with all this history that clarifies what we were taught we have said nothing that our children and theirs will have not and will not be taught this new information about our ancient origins. I wonder who and what institutions have that much power to suppress.
