Uncrazy made a statement today:

God could ever leave man whose body is the temple of the living God?

This has many connotations which would be interesting to explore.

Different branches of Christianity has history related to worship of idols, crosses, statues of Christ, Mary, where they have branched away from the mainstream Christianity of the time.
There seems to be discord as to what the body is our temple means.

Buddhism clearly does not worship "Buddhas" and respects the human body as a vehicle to attain enlightenment. It is the most precious life tool and opportunity to seek the truth of all things.

Also, to attain enlightenment, Temples are not the way to enlightenment but a helpful tool. Attainment of enlightenment is through the mind. In respect that the body is our own temple.

Peoples thoughts on this?

I see temples as a place to write and safeguard the books. The second use would be for education.

As for the worship aspect, that's fine, we can pray there or participate in meaningful external rituals, but real worship/prayer is done in silence, not the yelling and screaming use to show we got god in us.

Jesus said we should prayer unceasingly and in silence...in the silence was to be found the peace that passed all understanding.

To me he says keep your mind thinking of the highest possible thoughts at all times, if we falter by judging, we forgive in the christian churches, in the Buddhist disciplines they will notice what they have done and return to their center of compassionate looking.

Neither discipline offered by Jesus or Buddha creates a place where it is okay to decide that somone is under control of a devil or deserves eternal torment.

This would never be in the suggestions of Jesus or Buddha...only from the direction of our church. Anyway, the idea that we will be barred from heaven is coming out of the Jewish practice of casting unbehaving members out of the temple community.

Nothing is new under the sun...maybe the packaging?

Oh no!!!! Last thing we need here is a trolling post!

Okay "Big Boy" go back in time and start learning about the Protestant Reformation since the 14 century and not the accepted start of Martin Luther. Here you will find the break away from the Roman Catholic Church where a number of countries and regions change to Protestants. Then we have the continental European Protestants, the English Protestants, the Scottish protestants, &c.

Keep reading and studying through time until you get to the Puritans. If you can try and trace to modern day practices but I must warn you it is nigh impossible.

Keep in mind why and wherefores of practice and religious decoration changed.

uncrazy, naw

Walk into a Roman Catholic church and then a Church of England Church to see the difference of my meanings.

Better still, stand in the centre of the Vatican's dome and do a twirl looking all around then go to St Francis of Assi's cave and try to do a twirl in its smallness and sparseness of space to look around if you can. There you go... another change... "Franciscan Friars" and hence also the St Clairs.

Each bringing its own history of truths. One escaping from figured crosses and the pictorial blood of christ. Another, simplicity of mediatative practice without grand ceremony. Simplicity of a neat little wooden cross than a Gold clad figurine in a cathedral.

Well, could go on about it but take the "Puritans", now what does that mean? "Puritan". They just about kicked out everything in their practice.

I think anyone if they really wish to learn could pick it up through the study without too much difficulty. But alas........ is it really useful?

Seal, why don't you pick up a book and read now and then. There are many Christian sects that look to different icons, crosses, and such.

BandtMom & 16knots,

An opportunity for patience...we have all the time in the world once we become willing to remain in service to others.

Is this useful? ...for now it serves...I will create something else later, this time I'm working in a christian based illusion to grow in wisdom and compassion...my invite to dinner was a reminder of me to me.

Namaste'
