I watched this video the other night. This is a very intelligent man. Dante, I believe, was the one who first come up with the fire and brimstone version of hell, but he is right in that it is being utilized.
I watched a few others of his videos, and am thinking of getting his book. I am not saying I agree with everything he says. Some of it will have to gel a while, but I think his views are interesting, intellectually based, and worthy of consideration at the least.

Bishop Spong is a christian reverand that "gets it"!
I have yet to view a video or read a paper by him that didn't communicate love and peace among all men.

I really enjoyed the video. Like Lance, I can't say I am "with" everything Spong sats.
Bur he is smart, articulate and comical.....he could certainly draw people in, and closer!

Thanks for watching. I was kind of taken by surprise to hear how rational and spiritual this man was. He easily brushed off dogma that is so divisive, delusional and dangerous. As Sail says, he "gets it" and its much of the things we in these forums can see for ourselves. Its nice to know there is someone who is on the same wavelength. He is looking for Christianity to clean up its act because it will die if it doesn't get fixed.

Look at Bev's response. She is attacking him for not agreeing with her poisoned dogma. Did she provide one example that what he says is not true. Do you think that if she could substantiate her views, that she wouldn't?

And many more people WOULD. It will take time, but eventually christianity will be reduced to the ranks of other pagan religions. That is if christianity does not change its beliefs and remove all the dogma related to a evil and egotistical god and his apprentice known as satan.
Civilization has come a long way, but would be so much more advanced if religion was exposed to what it is years ago.
Bishop Spong is only one of many christian ministers and reverends that are stepping forth to change and eliminate the myths associated with tribal religions and return to the actual teachings of Jesus and other Masters. That being love, peace and having an abundant life.

Very good post.. Thanks Lance and Hammer. Will check out the Longer version tonight Sail. I believe the reason why the "system" dislikes him so much is because those comments provoke independant thought. Not something that goes hand in hand with the Church I feel.

The best way to lose all is to cling with desperation to that which cannot possibly be sustained literally. Literalistic Christians will learn that a God or a faith system that has to be defended daily is finally no God or faith system at all. They will learn that any god who can be killed ought to be killed. Ultimately they will discover that all their claims to represent the historical, traditional, or biblical truth of Christianity cannot stop the advance of knowledge that will render every historic claim for a literal religious system questionable at best, null and void at worst.

What I find facinating is that here's a guy that none of us had heard of before this week saying much of the VERY SAME THINGS as many MANY of the posters in these threads have said over and over again -- people who reached their own "non-traditional" conclusions and beliefs ALL ON THEIR OWN, without coercion, without being TAUGHT.
Viva independent thinking and a rather rational approach to "religion".

Independent thinkers (that would be FREE WILL ..ahem) are the ones who advance humanity and knowledge.. tis so sad that some chose to lie stagnant and dormant, not growing, as was intended when we were given our FREE WILL to learn and not be LED ...to choose and not be herded ... to lead by example ...not follow by fear ... to GROW.. one cannot GROW if your mind is closed and limits are forced upon you

Reminds me of David Karesh and Jim Jones. They changed the Bible to suit themselves, too.
Besides, you all can't put any credence in him, he only has a MASTERS in DIVINITY from a seminary, lol.
