No, unfortunately we are not. We need to be more accepting of other people's differences and faiths. Thank you for this posting, Blondino.

wonder why its just not happening then ,,,, is it because getting along is not so entertaining In part. The other is the dogmatic reactions by some of those who are indoctrinated in fundamentalist dogma. Such folk would not like your post as to them it would encourage peace and compromise with people who worship demons in their eyes.

I'd LOVE to engage in some learning interaction!
We have this wonderful opportunity to do so here, and we're squandering it with endless bickerling and name-calling. It's a damn shame.

Buddhism Putting oneself in the place of another, one should not kill nor cause another to kill.
One who, while himself seeking happiness, oppresses with violence other beings who also desire happiness, will not attain happiness hereafter
In addition, the Dalai Lama has stated:
If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.
Baha'i Faith From the sacred scriptures of the Baha'i Faith:
"Ascribe not to any soul that which thou wouldst not have ascribed to thee, and say not that which thou doest not." Baha'u'llah. "Blessed is he who preferreth his brother before himself." Baha'u'llah; And if thine eyes be turned towards justice, choose thou for thy neighbour that which thou choosest for thyself." Baha'u'llah
Ancient Greek philosophy
The Golden Rule was a common principle in ancient Greek philosophy. A few examples:
"Do not to your neighbor what you would take ill from him." (Pittacus) "Avoid doing what you would blame others for doing." (Thales) "What you wish your neighbors to be to you, such be also to them." (Sextus the Pythagorean) "Do not do to others what would anger you if done to you by others." (Isocrates) "What thou avoidest suffering thyself seek not to impose on others." (Epictetus)

And then there is the platinum rule: Treat others as they wish to be treated. While the Golden Rule says "do unto others as they do unto you," the platinum rule raises the bar and requires you to be more thoughtful. For example, if you don't feel it necessary to celebrate your birthday, but your partner loves a surprise party, under the Golden Rule, no party, but under the platinum rule, party.

East - I'd always heard the golden rule is to treat others as you'd wish to be treated, noit as they treat you...so party on!

(I have to admit that I'm a lot more like your golden rule than mine - in a perfect world that would be fine, but in the real one you have to have limits or you'll destroy yourself)

If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion I agree... No matter what faith!

John 14: 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
1John 4: 19 We love him, because he first loved us.
20 If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?
21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.
1John 5: 1 Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments.
3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
2John: 5 And now I beseech thee, lady, not as though I wrote a new commandment unto thee, but that which we had from the beginning, that we love one another.
6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. This is the commandment, That, as ye have heard from the beginning, ye should walk in it.
Mark 12: 29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Compare with...
Deut. 6: 4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart.
Romans 13: 8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.
