Posts: 8,601 Today when a group of christians form a new denomination they either adopt one of many versions of the bible or publish a new version of the bible that better reflects the belief of that denomination.

Could that be the reason for the many discrepancies between the four gospels of the christian bible?

Could each gospel actually be the basis for the beliefs of different early christian sects?

Could it be that they were never planned to be combined as one scripture named the New Testament?

Constantine in order to create a state religion forced christians to come together and agree on one theology. What if the different sects couldn't or wouldn't agree on one scripture? Could they have adopted all four just to please the different sects? Could these sects then have followed only one gospel, the one adopted by that sect?

Could early christian sects been similar to current day denominations?

Could the gospel of a denomination equate to today's "bible version"?

If so, does that means that christianity of today has unknowingly created a bastardized dogma that combined all the early christian beliefs?

No wonder there are so many things in the New Testament that contradicts itself. It is only a compilation of gospels of different early christian sect beliefs that have always contradict each other.

Posts: 1,887 I think the gospels have been used very superficalliy by most churches in favor of the writings of Paul. The epistles of Paul dwell on the politics of church and behaviors of the flock and what is expected, whereas the gospels aren't quite so black and white with the parables and such.

The denominations are a result of the differences in people in general. People have their own individual likes and dislikes, what is a grevious sin to one is a minor offence to another, so it's no wonder that individual churches are fond of their pet scriptures.
