A bit of fun here,...

I was bumming around the net and came across an interesting article regarding the rise of Jediism. What started out as a joke/hoax email in New Zealand, has grown to a religion with half a million people worldwide. According to the 2001 census, there are more registered Jedis than registered Jews in England. There is even a campaign to have it included as a religion for the next U.S. census.

While most agree that the concept of a Jedi is Zen like, some Christians are claiming it more Christian like. True..

Should it be recognised? If so, then why? Lastly, what religion do you think it most resembles?

Now this is a religion I could get into. I have never really thought much about it as a religion, but what I remember of the movies I have seen, I think they remind me most of what I remember the original native Americans (and other cultures similar to theirs) felt about the world around us. There is a force that binds everything together. That force is all around us, and we can use it to help us through this life, if we so choose. Am I close, or really off base with that?

For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes.

Master Yoda.

Of course its based on Buddhism.

And there are some many religions recognized here n the U.S., Jedi should have no problem. It makes a lot more sense than some of them.

You mean alongside Vulcan mind melt and sign language? Trekky has been a national religion since 1968: "Live long and prosper."

"Don't 'think' you can be a member, do, or do not..."

Enough of this levitate... levity.

There is definitely a dark side of weird force present in a few religions.

He left us some great pictures to remind us of his martyrdom...

We must build a shrine of the graphic one, who flies with a beam of light in his hand and dismembers and impotizes the forces of the Empire.

In the second picture, the Green One is at peace...

This must be the spiritual form of the Green One.

Yeay, let us offer sacrifices of all those who oppose his will... that they may never cast asunder the teachings of his followers.
