Also, best to place a frog at the entry facing in, and a mirror or something shiny facing out, (to reflect evil away), chimes at the back door, to keep money in.

pffft-
money maker I say...

I have had chimes outside my door for 15 years.
I feel good where my furniture is, what it is.

I don't read anyone's "words of wisdom"...I just move it until I say YES! I LOVE it there!!

My next door neighbour has loads of green frogs at her front door.

She always says she just collects them.... Maybe its Feng Shui...

~grin~ I remeber studying Japanese Flower Arranging (a very "structured" and philosophical style)...and what it all boiled down to was that it STILL encompassed the elements and principles of design (something that's "instinctive" with some people, but much has been written about -- in all kinds of terms and methods -- because it's rather hard to teach and learn of it isn't "built in")

Whilst I would agree however, chi is a real force and I have seen it used in Martial arts.

Also, as someone with "deep respect" on spiritual matters, Feng Shui does answer some very valuable questions with regards to our being and surroundings.

Question is how much so does the spiritual balance and positive balance effect our "intuition" or vice verse in design and Feng shui science?

Yes Chi is a force.. an energy ...and being at peace with your surroundings or using a negative energy because you do not like the surroundings you are in to escape them, is a use of energy also... energy can be focused and used but it has to come from somewhere ...and that somewhere is us .. if we are happy the energy is good.. if we are sad or irritated the energy is bad ..

LOL, I can't discuss "spiritual balance" in philosophical terms, but I can tell you that my "inner energy" is affected negatively when I see an otherwise-lovely crooked picture on the wall, a set of pictures that are hung in an "unbalanced" design...or when I'm surrounded by disturbing (to me) "unbalanced" or "unharmonious" colors, etc. etc. "Misuse" of color really affects me...as does my own perception of "imbalance". It's a real physical reaction...which is all in my head, LOL.

It's not a religion or a science, but a theory that in nature there's a certain flow. A balance, that if practiced in the home, creates harmony.
Frogs at the front door should face in. Chimes should be at the back door, and water should not put out the "fire" in the back middle.
The bagua is practiced on the house as a whole, and again, on a smaller scale within the rooms.
My opinion is, some of it helps the feel of the house, but you could also drive yourself crazy trying to adhere to all the rules and tips.

LOL, especially since some of us have our bathrooms located in the back-middle part of the house....across the hall from our master bedroom (the source of "fire" ) "Redecorating" is one thing. Removing and reinstalling an existing bathroom is a whole other ballgame.

(I do have bamboo windchimes by my back door. Except it's a side door leading to and from the kitchen. )

No frogs, though...just lizards. But they're both reptiles, right?

I have a 65 pound bag of SakCrete in my foyer! I got it that far out of the car and now I can't pick it up and move it anymore. It's been there over a month.

Definitely negative-Chi...centered right here in this old beat up bod.

I'm not an expert. But if something is in a wrong area of the house, it can be "fixed".
Religious extremists are vehemently opposed to feng shui, believing it takes
over lives. Some have sold houses because it doesn't flow the way the
bagua dictates. A little extreme...though the idea of placement for flow
and harmony interested me at one time. It's certainly not a new concept.

Lore,

No, Feng Shui isnt like the Ouiji Board or what you wish to believe.

It is based on Chi (energy) and its quite real. Best way to think about it is a magnetic fields.

Lining things up and placing things helps to firect the flux lines so we get the best in positive and magnitude.
