Simply Religions are man made and following them is simple acceptance of someone else knowing more than you. This holds as true today as it has throughout history, lemmings to the sea, one and all.

to follow anothers religion.
I'm confused, Knotty....is the above the true crux of this thread....or negativity?
As far as following another's, often a child will grow up in a certain denomination, and just remain there as an adult...comfort. Familiarity. Then some will remain a Christian, but find their own path, not follow. I know tons of people like this.

If one is raised in a religion they tend to follow that religion to adulthood and then either continue to follow it so they do not go against their parents or to either turn away from religions for awhile or turn to another religion because they no longer believe in the one they were raised in.
This is simply looking outside of self to find self!

If you're asking what i think you are, then it's a feeling thing. Even if some preacher tells some folks that they are sinful and bad, they can undergo a ritual, whether it be sprinkled or dunked with water, uttering some unitelligible gibberish in a primitive type of exorcism (Baptism of the HS), it gives them a sense of relief, a sense that they have been cleansed and have become special and exclusive. They can enjoy being a "regular person" and at the same time they're "forgiven".
I liken it to the adult that has a fetish for being humiliated, spanked and told how naughty they are. I've actually seen a link between the religion and the sexual fetish behavior.

Christians have a automatic out they can simply pray by themselves and then forgive themselves without ever attending any church.
Thor most of us are aware that attending church on Sunday is all about seeing and being seen. It is a feel good society for any portion of a community.

Of course, we can pray by ourselves. The thing you don't understand, if you don't know the Holy Spirit, is that the church is a body, some have one gift while others have other gifts, when the people assemble together then the body can function as a body. Needs are met.
I think more and more people are beginning to seach instead of just staying in the denomination they were born into. I was encouraged to attend other churches when I was young and come to my own decision, unfortunately, I never attended a spirit filled church, back then, they had a bad rap, no makeup, you couldn't cut your hair or watch tv or listen to rock music, so those churches were nothing that I wanted any part of.
I grew up in a church like you speak of yash. I would never go back to one like that church. But, you know, churches are like hospitals. So, yes, I guess you see that in churches.
I go to a church that is almost all ministers and very very small right now. It is not commercial, not about money, not about show, just people who are very sincere in their walk, not radical, who simply believe in the Bible.
