Jesus, Alien Abductions, Roswell, Elvis, UFOs, Extraterrestrials, Resurrections, Man, Myth and Magic.
 
Give it a century or two and maybe someone will come up with something about Elvis being an ET or even Jesus since they had so much in common. Then again some people think Charles Manson was Jesus.
Roswell is the Holy Land. ET was captured and its a big government cover up so it must be true. Huh?
With enough nuts, enough hallucinations, enough repetitious undying claims about Roswell you may just be seeing how religions like Christianity get made. There is no proof for any of it but just a lot of people taking about what they seen. There are even people saying they were actually abducted and taken aboard the ET ships and had experiments done on them. Sound familiar? Do you believe them?
How about the nuts who say they had conversations with God or Jesus spoke to them? How about nuts who make deals with these voices in their head? Are they in any better position than alien abductees?
Well, at least we know for sure Elvis really did exist and he was the King.

Whenever I see a lot of this happeneing, I always have to ask myself several questions. What is going on in a person's life to make them want to embrace such fantasies? What could be so wrong with the real world that these folks seek such escapism? Where could all of this kind of thinking lead to, with so many willing to abdicate their critical thinking skills in order to follow a fantasy?
It fuesl another kind of thought, the conspiracy theory which opens up all kinds of frightening possibilities. We know fantasy like this was used in totalitarian regimes as a control measure, so what can we expect in the future?

When ever a person becomes a radical fundamentalist about anything they assume they are right and everyone else wrong.
It is not so much that they believe as it is that they want to believe because of there social experiences they need something to cling to and almost any cause will do. They tend to favor cults that are radical as what they are really seeking is recognition from others of them selves externally.
Generally their own personal lives are meaningless and they desperately need something to add value to lessen the negativity about them selves in their own mind. So they grasp at anything which they think will make others think they are a good person.

Are they in any better position than alien abductees?
Actually, much of the alien abductee phenomena has been connected to sleep paralysis. I'm sure if you looked at each case on a case by case basis, you would find similar ailments in all such hallucinatory experiences.

Some things with sleep problems are real but the person is walking in their sleep and then does not recall what happened. A women went to a doctor, the doctor told her the reason you feel so tired is you are pregnant. She said I have not have sex for a year and my husband who lives downstairs drives me crazy.
In her sleep she was walking downstairs into her ex husbands arms having sex with him and did not remember it when she awoke. hmmm It was on tv so it must be so.

UFO doesn't not necessarily mean its ET. The point is in OP is that such fervor over it has made this phenomenon a cottage industry where people earn their living off of other people's interest in it. There is no proof of ET and substantial evidence is lacking and that's very much like religion. People will insist there is proof and many will insist they really were anal probed by ET and that too is very much like religion, especially Christianity.

Scientologists believe that our problems are caused by spirits who are extraterrestrials that are stuck to our bodies. Some of their facilities, the Scientologists not the aliens, in rural areas have built landing pads for those aliens to land on. Isn't that courteous of them?
