Fell in love with a person NOT from your specific religious belief ... would you
A. Wish them all the happiness in the world and support their marriage?
B. Try to convert the non believer??
C. Disown your child??
E. Be open and learn about their beliefs??
Or what would you do?? Pick one or more or just give your answer...
Luckily I have not had to worry about this .. I let my oldest choose how she wishes to believe.. like I have my younger ones.. I have answered questions they ask and discussed the different beliefs and researched them so that I can hopefully answer their questions unbiased. When my oldest got married they had already gone to several churches ON THEIR OWN .. to take part in a service .. to see how thing were done... and whatever they choose to believe I have faith in my daughter enough to know it would not be something that excludes others or preaches damnation but something that encompasses all that she has learned... she and her siblings have been to masses with my sister and brother in law many many times because they LIKE to go NOT because I or anyone MADE them go.
I would be more inclined to dislike my childs choice of partner by their character rather than if they attended a different church or believed differently than I did. That being said honestly I really could care less what they believe as long as they are not hurting my child or others with their belief and that does mean FORCING someone to follow their religious beliefs

From experience I can tell you that I wished my daughter and her athiest husband all the happiness in the world and supported their marriage.
Our family is basically Catholic/Christian and I've considered myself spiritual for over 30 years now.
My son-in-law is a good husband and a wonderful father, who with my daughter are doing a great job raising their two wonderful children.
Peace

Finding true love these days is hard enough without being nit picky about someones choice of religion (or lack of. ) Character, like Becky says is the important thing. I don't have children of my own, but if I did, I woundn't demand that my child date someone that had the same beliefs as me.. it's not my decision to make.. as long as I knew that my child had someone that loved them and had their best interests at heart, ...what more could you ask for?
Great thread Becks

It wouldn't bother me in the slightest if my son hooked up with someone from a mainstream faith. I would support him and his descision. Having said that, if he got involved with a full on, cultish sort of faith, I would definately have something to say about that.

well DAMN!!! I actually had another option but thought it might be better if I didn't post it and well, forgot to change the sequence
I do notice a marked absence of some people in answering this .. I sure hope it doesn't mean they would shun their own children

Sure I'd shun them. But not over religion
If they ever become Yankees fans - they're disowned though

Funniest part is I think it's true - my mom and dad would be okay with religion or even politics, but if I became a Yankee fan they'd come back and haunt me!!
I'm kind of with Horizon on this - I'm okay with any religion but a cult would worry me, big time.

The Mets are OK
Heaven, isn't that funny? My family is the same way. Except for my PIA brother. He likes The Yankees just to be irritating
And cults are a different story. Unless they get a cool robe and tambourine in the bargain. Then it's all good
