Folks. I just am really sick of bev jumping in on a good discussion, and throwing out a few insults and judgements, and turning a good discussion into a thread about herself. So I am trying again, removing any reference to her, except for this header. If we try to refrain from mentioning her on this thread, maybe she will let us be and allow a serious discussion to go on for once. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * OK, if what we believe is real, really really is real, we shold not shy away from legitimate questions, but should welcome them as a chance to elaborate on and explain our beliefs.
Some Christian folks seem to look at is as a challenge or put down (and maybe sometimes it is in some respects) but more than that it is an opportunity.
Hey, at least they are interested enough to challenge us.
OK, let me take a shot. As usual, this is not presented as any sort of absolute truth, just my own opinions and reasoning of my thinking as to the hows and whys.
First thing, let's flush 100% healing right down the crapper. That's a LIE. No Christian person who says it really believes it, and you can bet the farm that no non-Christian is buying it either.
Sounds nice. Just ain't so.
Every day people who are prayed for do not get healed. Some do. Many, probably most, do not. Side note: Don't ever buy into the "If your faith was strong enought they would have been healed" that is a sham. What they really mean is, "If you dump enough cash in the offering plate..." To use God and religion to sham or degrade other people is the highest form of blashphemy.
When I pray for healing for someone, I pray knowing that God hears, and believing that he will act/intercede if it is in his plan. The deepest, most sincere, hardest I have ever prayed in my life was when Daddy was dying in the hospital. Guess what. He died anyway. Mom prayed for my brother's eye and it was miraculously healed. The doctor didn't even want to check it.
Bottom line. It NEVER happens 100%. Anybody who tells you different is windbagging and is not worth your time.
OK, so why not?
Why doesn't God consistently reward the faithful who call on his name for healing?
Here is my shot.
First of all, if it worked 100% all the time, it wouldn't take long for all the hospitals to shut down and all the doctors to go out of business. So what's wrong with that? Nothing.
If it worked 100%, then the first time anyone got really sick, they would get saved, get the healing and go on their merry way. So what's wrong with that? Plenty.
God wants faith, not someone to get a ticket punched. John was shown things that, had they been revealed would have made it obvious to everyone. He wasn't allowed to write of those things.God wants us to desire him for the right reason.
Revelation 22 8. And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things. 9. Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God. 10. And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand. 11. He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. OK, so why does God want us to desire him for the right reason? I think that one is pretty easy. The old saying goes "A poor man knows who his friends are" Think of all the people who don't like you. Now, imagine you win the lottery. Budda-bing!!!! Suddenly alot of those people will want to be your friend. How does that make you feel? Are they sincere?
Any kid will tell you he loves you if you hand him an ice-cream cone. Does that mean he loves you, or wants an ice-cream?
For what it's worth, I think it is more about what God wants us to be, than it is about what God wants from us. We are not animals. God wants us to be something more than a self-centered shark cruising the waters, looking for ways to turn everything to our own advantage. We are more than that. We should see past that.
God wants us to come to him for a purpose greater than some hamster pushing down a food bar to get a treat. otherwise, he wouldn't have made us at all, and would have stopped at hampsters.
Lastly, this is not Heaven. Wasn't meant to be. Never will be. God cures cancer. God cures diabeties. God cures the comon code. God cures hangnails. God cures rainy days and Monday mornings with cold coffee.
Just doesn't work that way. This is a temporary stop on your way to something better. It is a boot camp for souls. It is rough, it was meant to be rough. It is meant to test you.
There is Earth and there is Heaven. Sorry to say, you are still on Earth, and a lot of Earth is pretty crappy.
My advice is, keep in mind that it is only temporary, try to make the best of while you are here, and prepare yourself for the next world which will be better in every way.
That's the view from here.

While I don't completely agree with everything I do see this is probably the most reasonable, realistic view I've seen from someone of faith in R&S. I think you've been able to expect things in the realm of reality, as-it-is and not have pipe dreams of what-is-not. You don't believe in false hopes but you do have hope nevertheless and it is far more attainable for you than for someone dreaming a delusional fantasy, You make it happen. I'm sorry you experienced a loss but you have accepted such truths in life though that pain. I wish it never had to be that way but its a hard truth for all of us. I'm happy you also saw a loved one recover. How and why may not matter so much as time well spent in the moment expressing what you feel while you can.
I believe you have adopted a concept of God that is compatible with your own good self. You have taken responsibility and so take the grown up approach.

What's the matter, lance, can't you stand up to the word and to the truth?
Lol, hammer, you are full of it.
He tries to equivocate God away and the word, this post calls God a liar, and the word a liar, lance, THIS is why people don't get healings.
Shame on you for trying to steal a healing away from someone who really needs one because of YOUR unbelief. God will hold you responsible for your lukewarm words, lance.
