Thomas Nelson Publishing (who puts out various versions of the Bible--The NASB, ASV, RSV, NJKV, and the NCV) Has over the past few years, also been producing and marketing bible "newsletters" to our younger generation (primarily teens).

Boasting their "accuracy of biblical translations" and promoting "the word", Thomas Nelson Publishing distributes "Revolve"--a bible and newsletter for teen girls (the cover resembles "CosmoGirl" and "Teen Beat", and "Refuel"--a newsletter for teen boys.

These periodicals contain a copy of The NASB (Which has already been determined to have words and ENTIRE passsages ommitted). It also has "Christian Teen Q & A's" (Much like any other girl's magazine)

Here is an example of a question and answer in one of the editions.....

"Q: Hey, how do you tell a friend that's your crush that you're into him without ruining your relationship?

A: You don't, Sorry. God made guys the leader."

On the same token, "Refuel" also contains a copy of the bible.

It tells teen boys that gambling is ok as long as it's in moderation.

And DOES NOT condemn underage drinking.
Underage drinking? THat's a hard question. Jesus made water into wine afterall
But "Refuel" also states (in the same answer to underage drinking) that it IS illegal. And to just "Be careful.

"Q: What do you do if you get to a party and find out that everybody is drinking beer and pounding shots?

A: Be responsible and know your limitations."

NOTICE THEY DON"T SAY LEAVE THE PARTY?!?!?!

Also in "Refuel" is a list on how to be a "Godly Boy"

1. Don't hit girls.
2. Don't chew with your mouth open.
3. Don't belch.
4. Don't be arrogant.
5. Don't backstab.
6. A godly boy knows his boy is a temple of God.
7. A godly boy respects others.
8. Don't ditch your family.
9. Don't talk smut.
10. And a godly boy is loyal to his friends.

A far cry from the ten commandments.

Zondervan Publishing, Inc. is owned by Harper Collins. They publish the NIV Bible, and the "2:52 Boy's Bible" (aimed at teen boys) In it passages quoted from the OT relating to violence and carnage are presented because
It makes the Bible more appealing to teen boys.

ZONDERVAN PUBLISHING, INC. (HARPER COLLINS) ALSO PUBLISHES THE SATANIC BIBLE!!!!!

Pretty cool, huh?

I swear I don't make this shit up......

Isn't it amazing that "don't hit girls" is given the same weight as chewing with your mouth open?

right or wrong are not major mitigations in a capitalistic society. the #1 factor in a capitalistic society is the bottom line. and anyone with a lick of sense knows that the youth are the ones that offer a dollar freely without questioning where it goes. it takes a few mistakes and the ocassional burning bush or butt for them to start asking questions. in our society biblical marketing is very acceptable. if not it would be relegated to the aisle adjacent to porn! LOL we be jammin

true, uab. What's hypocritical is both companies "self-promote" them selves as having the most accurate bible translations and "pride" theselves in spreading te "word."

THese guys take the cake..

IMHO it's up to the individual to interpret the Word for themselves.

And that meaning may change based on different versions and different times within that individuals life.

Dios le bendiga!

I just wonder if this is any different to the tactics used by other religions to recruit young people to their cause...

When I was a teenager I went to the city with a mate to see a movie. We were stopped and asked if we'd like to complete an IQ test. We agreed and completed the test and the "Result Survey Information Sheet"... They then asked if we'd like a book each for completing the survey...

Sure, why not... A cool looking hardcover book with a cool pic. of a volcano erupting on the cover... The Book was called Dianetics by Ron L. Hubbard. When I got home I showed mum my book and she knew exactly what it was and it ended up in the bin. The next day we were "visited" by Scientology members... My mother's constant abuse and threat of harm from our German Shepard made them see the errors of their ways and they left, never to return...

This was an eye opener for me and made me think about what lengths people go to recruiting members for their particular denomination. I still think about it today...Many religions and faiths have their underhanded tricks for recruitment. They seem to change the facts to make it more palatable for the unsuspecting.

Buyer beware!!!

What if there is cocaine, pot, crack and other illegal drugs at the party? Can the "christian" do drugs since it's okay to drink? After all, drinking is illegal if you're under 21 yers old, so why not imbibe in all the oth er drugs too? Illegal is illegal, right?

Also, if a guy, or girl for that matter, drinks too much alcohol he may start hitting girls, chewing with mouth open, belching, being arrogant, backstabbing, treating his temple wrong, not respecting others, ditching family, talking smut and being unloyal to friends.

This is an old thread, but I've recently recieved a version of the Bible called "The Message."

Here's what it says about marketing.

***No other version (That I have) uses the term "marketing" most use "weapons"

2 Cor 10:4

The tools of our trade aren't for marketing or manipulation, but they are for demolishing that entire massively corrupt culture.

Doesn't really mean anything, I was just trying to find the word "Marketing" in the Bible.
