What do you think happens after death?
Do you go to a place called heaven or hell? If so, would you describe it?
Do you go to another plane of existance? If so, would you describe it?
Do you cease to exist?
What are your thoughts on this?

When you die, your body begins the process of decay. You lie still in wormy earth as the maggots feast upon your rotting flesh until the day there is nothing left of the person you once were but a pile of bones.

Do you think that we are made up entirely of the physical? What about the energy or the spirit? Do you believe there is none at all?

I'd agree about the physical shell, except that as I plan to be cremated I'll just skip the whole messy decay and wormy thing and just go straight to bones and ashes.
As for any surviving consciousness, I think something survives but I think of it more as returning to the group consciousness, or what I visualize as the Creator. Whether there's rebirth or like moths emerging from the chrysalis, an entirely new and different experience is an open question for me, but no way can I believe in an eternal reward, our job's done and we pass or fail the test to spend eternity in either pleasure or torment. Where else is there anything like that in the universe? The only constant is change, whether growing or decaying.
If there's nothing, that's entirely cool with me, not that I have a vote or anything.

What brain replaces the brain after death to sustain consciousness? Where are the neural connections being persevered? Where are the axons and synapses? Where are memories being stored?
If none of those questions can be answered, then no one knows what happens after death.

No one DOES know what happens after death. In a holographic universe, the image of the universe exists all throught it. Could there be some sort of universal energy from which that initial spark of consciousness is generated? Can there not be a pool of energy from which we emerge and to which we return? I don't know, this is speculation for me. I don't base my life on it and I certainly don't obsess over it, either positively or negatively.
Que sera and all that but it's always interesting speculating and spinning theories.

All of the dead will rise in Christ and this earth shall be changed in an instant, creating a new heaven and a new earth. Christ shall reign here with the Saints for one thousand years. This is what will happen after death to those who believe in Jesus Christ, who worship Him.
After that, satan shall be loosed for a time and then he shall be vanquished once and for all and Judgment Day shall commence. After that, there will only be the rule of Jesus Christ and whatever eternal life with Him looks like.

It's what I believe, UAB, you can share your own thoughts on what will happen to you after death if you like. I've shared mine.

Ancient fantasies in the 21st century. As unreal then as it is now. Mental illness perpetuated by delusional superstition. Kind of makes me miss Bev.

Hm, well if you are asking what happens right after we die? I do not know. Some places in the Bible seem to say different things. Do we sleep for a while? Does our soul leave right away?
Do we go to heaven right away, or are we sleeping? Guess there is only one way we will find out right?

'ay 'lass.
All the saved go to Heaven, aka which is like Earth, except without the shit and shitheads.
Everything we knew and loved on Earth will be in Heaven.
The truely unrependant and wicked will spend eternity alone retracing their sins and in torment by those they hurt in life.

I believe we simply move to another plane of existence.
I think the physical body changes to another form (either goes back to the earth as all physical matter does or becomes ashes) and the spirit is left.
I do not believe the physical body is who we are. I believe that it is our home to enable us to live on the physical plane.
I also think the spirit can reincarnate to another body, either soon after leaving the body or years later.
I believe "heaven and hell" to be a state of mind, rather than places and that they can be experienced on the physical plane as well as the spiritual one.

Personally I dont go for the hellfire and brimstone deal. I just dont buy the fact that God Allmighty sends people that arent aware that he even exists are sent to eternity in a pit of fire. Hell to me is eternity...an eternity of nothing. Heaven is all of everything. So after death if I'm not one thats chosen to enter the kingdom of heaven I will have nothing. If I am chosen,I'll be given the answers to the questions we all have about the universe, the unknowns about the paranormal, why we are only aware of three dimensions etc.and what exactly does happen after death. It sure beats having nothing.

I'm not sure that "hell" is a virtual fire pit.
When I think of evil... of Satan...which I attempt not to think about much, but when I do, I think about where pure evil would go and what it would do.
I guess God and Satan are spirits essentially, or supernatural in essence and so pure evil, (based upon the horror movies I've occasionally watched over the years like the one about that Pinhead guy "Hellraiser"), is going to desire to have his "clients" or those that choose him, experience what he experiences, so I think actual hell is going to be a maze of the perverse and pure evil incarnate, essentially. And probably those who are evil, (and trust me, there are some people who are very evil), will be in the right place -- as opposed to those who love God, who desire to worship Him and serve Him for all of eternity. Truly something like all of the saints worshipping God would be an unbearable hell for one who hates God, who can't bear even the thought of loving Him.

The only sure thing is that in the end it will be as it is...or as it isn't...
And all the wishing, hoping, speculating, agonizing, and believing or not believing in this or that doesn't change that fact one bit...
Actually there's a part of me that sort of envies believers in that respect. They truly believe they are heading off to a better life. Because I don't know what, if anything, happens after one passes on, and I haven't experienced anything that would compel me to believe there's any kind of life after this one, let alone eternity in some magical kingdom, it seems likely this life is it...the only go round. And the older I get and the faster life seems to go, it sometimes crosses my mind that the end is coming up quicker than I'd like, and this life, as quickly as it's passed, will have been insignificant in the overall galactic scheme of things.
And though all that's not keeping me up at night, sometimes the thought that my end is coming and that'll likely be all she wrote can be a little spooky.

In Buddhist terms there is nothing as death and it is a misnomer of this life time. Our present state is the dream world. We are ignorant of the truth before us and hence why we live and believe as we do. When opening up to the greater awareness we cease to distinguish between this dream world we are living, the relative world of our creation caused by our actions, opening to absolute of what really exists for us.
Our present state in this world is governed by our course sense organs. Our biological ears, (hearing), nose (smelling), eyes (seeing), mouth (taste), skin (feeling) which is our inputs to our course mind. Each of these aspects we have a conscious awareness,e.g. we are always conscious of hearing or seeing these words. Each organ is attributed with a conscious. This in turn feeds into our conscious mind the one that thinks it exists, the all pervading "self."
On death and as the organs shut down our mind ceases to have the conscious facility of receiving all that worldly input. No more hearing, no more seeing, the body is dying. It become dead as a functioning human being known as your "self."
Okay, nothing is lost! Something remarkable happens. The five consciousness cease and then so does that "Self" mind. That every day scheming mind thinking it owns you and is you. Sometimes it is noticeable that we have that little voice in the back of the mind sometimes guiding us. Sometimes we may become aware of it in an enlightened moment when our self mind is still. Maybe you could say it is the mind we go to dream in when asleep during those lucid dreams. Whatever, that "upper mind" is where on our death we become conscious of and find our new condition.
The mechanisms of what happens next is taught and well documented and experienced by many great Buddhists. Whether we accept it or not we are all very much aware of what happens as we have all died and rebirthed many life times, learning, riding our karmic paths and will continue to do so until we break the cycle through "Awakening" to the absolute nature of our selves.
This is the Buddhist take on it.
