Thanks for the info, Pete,
Yes, there are many ways to apply vibration directly to the body with great effect. I have been learning to use toning and overtone singing to send vibrations to particular areas of the body. Tickles, sometimes. I also respond very deeply to crystal bowl tones.

And yes, I have experienced the Soundweaver. Each time has created a totally unique inner landscape to explore, and left me afterward with feelings of deep peace and accomplishment. Most astonishing was watching as someone else was having a session (this would not normally be the case, but this was part of a sound healing class). The healer adds Reiki energy to the sound energy, and each time I was able to see not only the aura of the person being treated, but the large and vibrant energy field of the healer, and that energy extending from her hands and body to surround and enter the body of the person receiving. There were unique color patterns and changes with each different person. When she worked on a young man who was also a very strong healer, I could see little violet and green flame-like shapes above his hands, feet, head, and along his spine. Others in the group also saw some of the energy but none mentioned anything quite as detailed as my experience, so I guess I'm just more sensitive to this particular form. I hope to try this again now that I've done my Reiki attunements, to see if there is a difference.

That Soundweaver sounds awesome!! What an experience.....

Something else I have heard promotes out of body experiences is the 'thinktank'. I am not sure if this is the proper name for it, ...it removes all sensory stimulation. I first read about it in a Dean Koontz novel...The Door To December (I think). The tank's purpose in the story was nasty, but I've seen references to them elsewhere since reading that book.

Oh, there was a scary movie about that. I guy who took peyote and got into one of those - and actually underwent physical changes... I forgot the name of the movie though. It was about 20 years ago.

Has anyone heard of a device called a psychomanteum - for contacting the dead? Ray Moody wrote about it and I have a friend who uses one.

Altered States, with William Hurt. It's supposedly based on the life of John Lilly. I tried a flotation tank once, but couldn't deal with the closed in feeling long enough to relax. Had to come right out.

Sorta sounds a little scary...LOL....I Googled that....apparently it's not a 'device' per say, but the space in between each thought. Www.psychomanteum dot com. Sounded like a cross between meditation and a trance. Very interesting.
I am not sure I like the idea of staring into a mirror though. One night when I was younger I had been staring into a mirror drying my hair and daydreaming, until I realized that the face staring back at me was not my own. I have been a little shy of mirrors ever since.
Contacting people who have passed through, makes me a little nervous as well. Too many movies, I think. I prefer to stay here, among the living.

Okay, I have a pleasant experience of someone dead contacting ME.

I've read a lot about loved ones who are gone leaving little things for you to find...feathers, coins, that sort of thing. I keep finding dimes. When I was a kid, the tooth fairy always left us dimes and I asked my Mom about it and it was my Dad that played "fairy". He passed away two years ago, and the dimes have been appearing since November. At first I didn't think anything about it, but they are showing up in places I know I wouldn't drop change, and its ALWAYS a dime. Last night I opened the kitchen cabinet to get a plate, and there was one on top, and believe me, there's not way I'd have change in that cabinet. They usually appear when I'm a little down and it just seems to be a hug from my Dad.

Beach -- I think it would be simular to contacting angels...ask them to come into your dreams right before you go to bed and ask that you REMEMBER it in the morning. I've had some success with that and its a different type of dream...so just be open to the experience.

and as for my parents...yes...they were very involved in our lives. Needless to say, I was a Daddy's Girl.

I want to learn how to do Reiki.

Any suggestions on how to find a good instructor or program?

I don't know much about it.........but I "know" I need to learn....Do you just find someone you "click" with student/teacher? Group classes?

Clueless here in Seattle!!! Thanks!

Alright Beach and others......are you going to chime in here and let us know how to go about learning Reiki?

Thank you in advance!

See.....inquiring minds want to know. It's kind of like a classroom environment.......and you have a question......are you bold enough to ask......and all the others in the room, sigh with relief....so they didn't have to ask the same question...but want to know the answer!

I've been reading everyone's posts with great interest, but sometimes can't put things into words as eloquently, so I've been a bit quiet lately.

Annie, reading about the dimes your dad leaves for you reminds me of my experience.

My grandfather passed away in Feb. of 2004. He was a historian (had such things as letters written during the Civil War). Also, when he was a young man, he collected coins. I can't remember exactly how, but I seem to recall him saying he had penpals in various countries and they would exchange coins. He gave several of his coins to me and my brothers. I still have some of them. I'd have more, but when my son was younger, he dug out all the U.S. coins and spend them. Probably on candy. (ugh)

Months after my grandfather passed, I went to dinner with a friend. The cost of our meals came to $17.76. I didn't think anything of that until I handed the cashier a $20 and a penny. The change of $2.25....well, the .25 was a bicentennial quarter, which I had not seen one in years. So those two things, the amount of $17.76 and the quarter told me my grandfather was thinking of me and saying "hi". I have since received these quarters, although not very frequently.

I also began to receive quarters dated 1967 (my birth year). I think that is my grandfather letting me know that yes, it is him, and yes, he knows who he is sending these quarters too.

I too smile when I get these. And I save every one of them. I don't know why, but I do.

My mom teases me by making my Caller ID flash for a nanosecond....so that I question myself if I've seen it or not. (this has been confirmed by my pastor, who also does readings) I no longer subscribe to the service and the batteries are dead. Apparantly, my mom thinks its funny.

Thanks Annie for sharing your story.

Again, I am thoroughly enjoying the discussions. I'll try to pop in a little more often. It's great to have found such a safe place for us to discuss our beliefs and experiences.

Hugs to all!

Yes, somewhere between meditation and trance is accurate. The "device", a room with darkened walls, a mirror, and candle or light source, is (or can be) part of the experience. I designed a psychomanteum device for a friend using (you guessed it) sacred geometry - in both the size and shape of the room itself, but the size and shape of the mirror as well. She claimed to have a tremendous success rate.

I am not sure I like the idea of staring into a mirror though. One night when I was younger I had been staring into a mirror drying my hair and daydreaming, until I realized that the face staring back at me was not my own. I have been a little shy of mirrors ever since.

In the old days, when someone died, they would cover all the mirrors in the house with black cloth.

Contacting people who have passed through, makes me a little nervous as well.

There are many cases of mirrors providing a portal to the other side. Some famous ones in literature are "Through the looking glass" and "Aladin" - the latter being based on the polishing of a brass or copper lamp (those materials are important) and summoning a "genie". If one looks at Nostradamus, one sees the same materials being used in his divination.

Red, et al: When a person opens themselves up to the energy of the Universe, the Reiki energy will find you, as will the Master who is to teach you.
I also thought I needed to find a Master to teach and attune me....but my Master found me last week, and she lives like three blocks away!!!

Very cool Empath......about finding who you were looking for down the street!

and......

Don't forget forms of scrying uses mirrors, polished metal, glass or crystal balls.....personally, it's not one of my hot buttons......but it does work for those tuned in to that frequency.

I just found this thread last night and just completed reading all 19 pages. I am so impressed with the wide range of information here and the spirit of tolerance, admiration and cooperation (with touches of humor) exhibited by the posters. I have dabbled a bit in nearly everything discussed in here with the exception of quantum touch/resonance and magnetic therapies and I have studied massage therapy. I am a firm believer that the power to heal lies within each and every one of us and the power is so much greater than the magic pills that so many (including me at times) are so quick to grasp.

A hearty thank you to Empath for starting this thread and to each of you for contributing.

Thank you so very much!! I am happy to see each and every post and person in this thread!! It is a wonderful group of people, who all have so much to contribute, many not even knowing yet where their abilities lie.

I welcome you lacyvsq, and am eager to hear anything you have to offer us!

At the risk of embarrassing myself here:
I hope to one day carry this over to a website of my own, but for the time being have no way of posting messages or emails. (Everyone wants a Visa, and I don't believe in credit cards! They are dangerous for me!! LOL)... I sincerely hope to have many, if not all of you, join me in my quest to bring The Web of Light into being..... Thank you so much, everyone last one of you! Your warmth and openess astounds me daily.....Blessed Be, my friends.

Yes, this is so true. I've never learned Reiki, but I've been able to call on that energy from time to time (curing headaches for my kids and stuff) just by asking for it.

Empath, you're very right about the energy finding those who want to use it. It took about three years for the right situation to come to me, and it was perfect. We do manifest what we truly ask for, but it's also ok to help others along on their quest with a little extra info. These days most cities of any size have one or two "New Age" publications that you can pick up at the health food or metaphysical book shops that will list Reiki attunement events or practitioners who do attunements. Also, some massage therapy schools offer classes. There are different schools of thought about how much training is necessary, for it's highly intuitive and changing rapidly according to new input, with Usui or Traditional Japanese, Tibetan, Mayan, Karuna, Violet Fire or Kuan Yin all being forms in practice now. There are also "Reiki shares", group meetings where practioners and people wanting to be treated come together, usually free or for a small "love offering" where you can get treated, learn techniques, and find out about the community in your area. One school of thought insists that high fees must be charged to pass on this great honor, and another feels that a long apprenticeship to a master is necessary, but there is also a growing movement of doing attunements on a "Pay it forward" basis, by which you agree, in exchange for attunements, to attune at least three other masters (usually withn a one year period, but that's just to avoid procrastination). There are lots of books with techniques, but my advice is find someone whose energy you are drawn to. Reiki shares are good for this. A responsible master will spend some time discussing the energy, the techniques, and possible reactions you may experience during and after attunements. It's all about sharing, and POSITIVE intent. No way for it to go wrong, as long as good intentions are involved.
