Different masters install different Reiki symbols in your hands or "flip different switches on". Your individual Master Teacher will teach you their way. Don't over study the material even though study is good for basic knowlege. Each master trains a little differently. Red you are right ask for the Master to appear....the student is ready. The first attunement is a basic Cho Ku Rei. Nothin fancy just pure power.....hands heat up really hot and you can help lots of people with that one sign.(and yourself) The idea is that all the signs of Reiki are already there you just have to learn how to access them.....how to resonate with the knowlege.
Go get um.

Investigate it today rather than after the trip.......just saying everyday you can do healing is better than the day you don't do healing. You can start by healing yourself.

Actually, Beachnut, I have been investigating Reiki for a couple of months now, picking up just about every book on the subject that seems decent, and visiting many, many websites. It sounds to me like the Usui system is the most well recognized, though mayhap not the quickest to study.
The best book I have found so far is, Reiki by Chris and Penny Parkes.
It shows the twelve positions, explains the five principles, and gives a very good background on the history of Reiki.
I have healed small illnesses for a few years now. No, let me rephrase that....I have been the conduit for Universal Energy to heal for a few years now.....better....but I feel the formal training would give others, as well as myself perhaps, more confidence in my abilities.

I was wondering how long it would take you to pick up your thread of mentor, though..... and I promise not to wait until June....to TALK to her....that okay???

Wow, this thread is stirring up some great reiki energy. Any time a group of people focus on a positive goal it vibrates throughout the universe, supporting that goal and its accomplishment. Seems like there are several here who will go on to heal and teach others, which is the goal of the reiki community.

The Diane Stein and Barbara Emerson books are both very good. For many years the Usui symbols and attunements were kept secret, only to be taught to those who had paid sufficiently and worked with an approved master. Both these authors and teachers have done much to open the community to all who seek the knowledge. Now there are people doing attunements by phone or video. I'm sure it works, as all you really need is the positive intention to use the energy, but I know from personal experience that the direct touch of the master passes a great deal of energy into the initiate, and I'd hate for anyone to miss out on that.
Blessings to each of you on your individual quest, whether it be for self-healing, healing the world, or any other positive goal. Each positive thought is a pebble dropped into the ocean of energy whose ripples spread endlessly outward. We'll never know who is touched, but we can know they were touched with love.

Namaste,
SS

Thanks SS and we haven't even touched on the notion that Reiki is for animate and inanimate objects. Now if you are trying to fix your car you can temporarily just like your body....but you have to get a tune up by a professional....it doesn't alleviate care of the temple. Thanks also SS for the tern initiate....I had forgotten that in my haste.
I loved the ceremony when I was attuned and have only attuned one person. I would love to attend an attunement ceremony. Very ritualistic.

Thanks all for the input. All I know is what I was told...that I was having an attunement, but it appears that statement was incorrect. So to answer your question, Empath, of what the difference is between an attunement or a session...I can't. But I see there are others more knowledgeable about it and they have stepped forward.

Beach, I think you asked if it cost anything, and no, it did not.

Basically, it was the same as when I was in physical therapy and she performed Reiki on me. (yes, I'm a newbie in this area). I lied on my back on a massage table - eyes closed - while she moved her hands over the different chakra points of my body (I asked what she was doing after the session, since I had my eyes closed). I could feel energy moving in me. The biggest things I noticed was when she "pulled" negative energy from my heart chakra area. Also, afterwords, I felt happier than I have in years. It was like I was walking on cloud 9.

The session(?) I had Saturday was pretty much the same. I believe each lasted only about 15-20 minutes.

Whatever it was, it felt great!

I've been a bit busy lately with work, school (almost the end of the semester...wahoo!), and am meeting a guy (can ya believe it) this Saturday, and no, he's not from this site. There's a definate connection, so it will be interesting to see how things play out.

When I have a bit more time, I'll have to read the past few pages a little more closely.

In love & light ,

Sweet Gal

Meadowlark - Actually, my place is Feng Shui hell. Clutter and not Feng Shuiy at all. I really need to work on it.

Actually, about 2 years ago I had a reading done and was given some pretty detailed info about "the one". David, the man who did my reading used to have a radio show, and I've called in twice. He gave the same info. I've emailed David this Feb....same info. So this man I'm getting together with on Saturday. Wow! I liked his profile (no pic, but got with first email). We get to talking and he fits everything that David has mentioned with about 90% accuracy. David is also an ordained minister, and the pastor of the church I attend. Anyways, we (me and "my guy" talk every night (started last Mon.) anywhere from 1 to 4 hours at a time.

The Reflexions Center is David's business, and The Church of the Rock is...duh...the church. If anyone's interested, check out the sites at thechurchoftherock.com and reflexionscenter.com

It'll be an all day date and we're both excited to meet each other. He's such a sweet guy on the phone and in email, but we both have said we'll have a much better idea when we can look into each other's eyes.

A huge plus is during the first phone call I found out his mother is intuitive and he's had some experiences as well. He hardly talks about metaphysics because of people's reactions, so it's great that we can talk openly about it (and everything else).

Beach - This man's wife was giving tuning adjustments(?)...geez, forget what she said. But basically, sound therapy in a sense, using tuning forks. That was at no charge as well. Very nice couple. And they do this every Saturday for whoever wants it.

Even though that was a really good day for me overall, I've found hanging out at a metaphysical shop...when you're feeling down, is a great place to be. Just the place to get that extra boost of spiritual energy.

I've seen my store...I can smell it, hear it, know everything about it there is to know, but just don't know where it is. I used to search for it, then realized its MY store. Yup, ran from that idea for a few minutes too, lol. I've recently accepted the possibility and am easing into the idea. RedSun and Beach, thanks for the confirmation!

Beach - I don't remember exactly what she called it. She explained that there were different tones that were removed from music (????) years and years ago. If I remember correctly, she said something about when the monks in the past used these tones (chanting, I imagine), they had fewer instances of illness. Each tuning fork was a certain Mhz. Each was assigned to the different chakra points. She first "grounded" me on my back, between the shoulder blades. Then she would strike on a tuning fork, the first red colored,...striking it near the chakra point, moving it over my body from back to front, over my head from side to side. "White" consisted of her striking every tuning fork.

I think I may have something in writing that better explains, and I can share that info if anyone is interested. It'll probably make more sense than me trying to explain.

Yes, this definately sounds like a Pete thing.

Just basic sound healing, guys. John Beaulieu's books on using tuning forks will tell about it, Jonathan Goldman's the toning and chanting "expert". All of it goes back to Nada Yoga and ancient practices from India and Tibet. Every area of the body resonates to a particular frequency, just like a guitar or piano string at a certain tension resonates to produce a particular note. Also, certain harmonic intervals cause the brain to produce waves at certain frequencies, higher or more active corresponding to Alpha and Beta states (heightened awake or normal awake) and the lower frequencies with Theta and Delta states of meditation and sleep. Joshua Leeds' book "The Power of Sound" is another good resource, as is "The Tao of Sound" by John M. Ortiz. Skeptics might want to check out the works of Mitchell Gaynor, a leading oncologist, who has incorporated toning and crystal bowl sound healing into his healing regimen.
Many "modes" or types of harmonic music were "outlawed" by the Catholic (at that time the only Christian) religion as being too powerful for any but cloistered religious devotees to use. That was about the same time they made it a mortal sin for a woman to play a musical instrument. Goes a long way to expalining why the music business is run by men. lol.

If anyone is interested, I did a quick search on amazon.com and found both John Beaulieu and Jonathan Goldman have sound healing CD's. I check into those a little more and probably order one.

Some of the books come with cd's also. J. Goldman's are very good. There are also dvd's and all of them have websites with more info and event schedules. Also, on Amazon often the ones from alternate sellers are new or like new and for lower prices. It's a great source.

Good luck with your "David"....
The only David I ever met was the famous Statute in Florence....smile...
And, a pigeon pooped right on my head while I was sitting in
a Florence cafe...Damn it! Everyone laughed and said it was
good luck while I went to stick my head under a water faucet
in the bathroom...some memories are funny ones, but only
a few years later....

Meadowlark - I went ahead and ordered 2 CD's: Holy Harmony (Jonathan Goldman) and Calendula (John Beaulieu). Aparently Calendula is hard to come by or extremely popular. Many places are sold out and it's listed on eBay for around $40. I was fortunate enough to order it new from amazon.com for about $20.

Good luck with your "David"....

Oh no, David is my pastor who also does readings, holds psychic development workshops, etc. But "my" guy's name is Dave. I must think he's something special if I'm willing to set my alarm on a Saturday morning (I love sleeping in on the weekends) and drive an hour and a half just to meet this guy. We have a loosely planned day. I've been wanting to see Shosone Falls (Idaho), which is the only reason I'm going there instead of him coming to see me. We plan to alternate trips.

I can't say I've ever had a bird poop on my head. ....yeah, just watch....now that I've opened my mouth, I'll have a flock of seagulls unload on me tomorrow....

I've been trying to send healing energy to Dave, since he's had this awful headache the past 2 days. No luck. Perhaps I'm not focusing enough because I have had a bit of luck sending healing energy (so I've been told).

Oh, back to the sound healing CDs. Go to amazon.com and read the reviews from people who bought them. Remarkable! I can't wait to listen to them!
