People keep telling me that beliefs of certain religions are wrong. I had a 13 year old boy tell me that Catholics are going to hell because they are "Christians."
No, I'm not Catholic; I don't exactly have a religion of my own, but everyone has to have certain beliefs.
I was just wondering what some of the beliefs of people on here are.
Like mine, I believe in a higher source of power, but I don't necessarily believe in the God of the bible. I believe that there is an after-life, but I don't exactly believe in Heaven or Hell.
I believe that once you give your soul to God and become saved, that you can't go to Hell. To go to Hell is for Lucifer (I don't believe in Satan/Devil because Lucifer was the only one mentioned) to have your soul, but if you give that soul to God than it is God's forever and you have no soul for Lucifer to take.
There's more, but I don't want to push.

What are some of your beliefs?

I tend to keep religion simple. There are many denominations, many interpretations and many religions that claim to be the only one respected by God.
There is one God.That Gods name can be whatever you want to name him to suit yourself. My God is Jesus.
Heaven is for the chosen.I long to be one of the chosen but I'm also a sinner.I confess my sins but only to Jesus. My prayer is to Jesus. If he finds me worthy of forgiveness my soul will hopefully someday enter the kingdom of heaven.
If I am not worthy,I wont burn in hell because I dont believe Jesus will punish me for my sins.Hell to me is nothing, when I die,my soul dies and I am nothing but a bit more dust on the earth.

Hi Silence.
Welcome to the Forums.
Like you, I believe in "a higher power". But after doing some research, (mostly life-experiences with some Biblical-education); I've reached the conclusion that the higher power I was trying to get to know--IS the same God as presented in the Bible.
Such a revelation didn't descend on me overnight, but gradually this understanding has been revealed to me.
1Chronicles 28:9--IF YOU SEEK HIM, HE WILL BE FOUND BY YOU; BUT IF YOU FORSAKE HIM, HE WILL REJECT YOU FOREVER.

I encourage you Silence. Your path of discovery has been personalized just for you.
Don't let anyone prevent you from knowing these things.
May He bless you on your journey.

Yes, welcome to the forums.

I do believe that our souls belong to God/Jesus from the day we are born. What we decide to believe as we get older is where things get a little crazy.

I believe in the "seed" that is planted in each one of us from the beginning. The seed of God.

Then as we learn, get older we need to give our souls to God/Jesus in our human form.
Am I making sense?

Any way, welcome and hopefully you continue on to giving your self to God.

Well, I gave myself to God a few times when I was younger and actually attended a church.
I was always afraid that every time I did something bad, God didnt want me anymore. So I constantly gave myself to God over and over again. So, I believe that my soul is saved.
Im just in a stage of doubt. Which I dont think is necessarily wrong if it brings me closer to something at least.
I just find tons of things wrong with the bible and proverbs and such, but thats basically the whole idea of faith. Believing although it seems wrong to you.
I just havent found that yet.

And thanks for giving me such a warm welcome. Most of the times I posted on other sites people just shunned me and didnt want to hear anything I had to say.
Thats the trouble with being young, people think you know nothing of importance.

Silence,

Never be affraid to question things you're not sure of, something inside you obviously needs some answers.

So ask away, sometimes you'll agree with all or part of an answer, and sometimes you'll just reject it.

The important thing is realize that both responses have helped you define yourself.

Again welcome and Post Away

Welcome Silence>

This sight engenders a lot of unity. We often write what we think we believe is correct at the moment, and often provide sound reasoning for our position. If I stay engaged in the dialogue I can find out if I am personally open or closed minded. My open mind creates a place for us to interact. My closed mind will not only keep you out, it locks me in...alone.

I believe that young people are often times closer to God than older ones. They haven't had enough time on this earthly plane to distance themselves as much from God.

It has been shown that young children often remember a past life and they have proven to be accurate. Ask a young child 3, 4 or 5 what they were when they were grown up and you might get some surprises!

Keep on questioning. That will lead you to where you are supposed to be.

SilencedAngel,

You asked me to post my belief, I already did that in another thread (What if God....) but I'll post a copy here for you.

Realize that it is my belief. Many people may have similar beliefs but I think mine is unique. I have not received answers to all my questions, so it may change in the future.

I'll try to answer your question, but be patient with me because I'm new at this. I am a christian who over the years accumulated a number of questions relating to organized religion. But I was a busy executive that really didn't have the time or incentive to search for answers to these questions.

I'm in early retirement now and have the time to do the research but honestly I'd rather read a good novel. I've read a few spiritual books but felt that just reading up on a topic wasn't enough. I found MD about a month ago and posted to a forum thread for the first time in my life about three weeks ago.

I felt that a forum thread was a good way to get input from other members.

It always bothered me, since childhood, that if Jesus or another messenger came in this day and age that people would think the messenger crazy, not listen and probably commit the messenger to a mental institution.

When I decided to creat this thread, my topic became obvious to me. So here we are! The thread has grown but I don't have the credentials or the insight that some of the posters to this thread have. I can only reply to a question based on how I as an individual feel about the topic and how that response reflects upon what I want myself (mind and spirit) to stand for.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi Sail,

You're getting closer. I think you got thrown, when somewhere along the way, you were given the wrong impression men could be gods. There IS only one God. Any other god would be a false god.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Your missing my point or I might not be explaining it clearly enough. I wasn't originally planning on having this question or opinion as part of this thread, but when it was brought up by uncrazy, I realized that it was a natural progression of the thread.

I have always believed that our spirits were one with God and I as a child asked similar questions relating to Jesus' comment " Know that you are Gods" and I received similar punishment from the nuns for asking the question.

I was never able to put into words "what I really thought". I tried in one of the prior posts but I obviously didn't make myself clear.

This is what I believe:

1. There is only One God
2. The soul is a part of God (actually connected in some way)
3. Jesus as all of us was part man and part spirit at birth, his mind and spirit was precisely tuned and as a result his soul reached the highest level a soul could reach and became God.
4. Jesus has tried to help us to elevate our souls to the same level as his. He has told us to follow him for "he is the way", he's been through it and it can be done.
5. This process does not creat new Gods. Jesus did not become a new God, He became part of the trinity, three separate entities in One God.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The explanation of the Holy Trinity is pretty difficult to verbalize, but I like the description of the egg. Although it sounds quite contradictory, it seems the trinity is three separate entities, and yet it is one.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bev pictures the trinity as an egg because you have 3 pieces that make up the whole. Because her belief is that there are three in one.

I believe that there are an infinite number of souls within God, each one with the ability to become a God (highest level a spirit can attain), so my example would be more like an atom.

The Atom would simbolize the one God.
Electrons within the atom are souls with a negative charge (going in the wrong direction).
Protons within the atom are souls with a positive charge (going in the right direction).
Neutrons are souls with a no charge (they are perfectly in tune, Gods).

Many souls, all part of the one God, all with the ability to become Gods.

Am I right? I don't know. But based on what I know now, that is how I see it.

I'm definately not a neutron, and hope that I'm a proton.

I respect all your beliefs and hope to be reading about some of yours' soon. I'll warn you now, its very hard to put your true beliefs into words. Maybe that's why so many people quote the bible.

I apologize for the length of this post.

God bless you all.

There it is.

Peace

Being a professed Athiest and lapsed Catholic, I'm sure some of my beliefs are very different than most of you, but i think you'd be surprised at how much we think alike.

Personally, I have no need for God(s) or Devil(s). There's plenty of both good AND evil around us all everyday. One need only turn on the 5 o'clock news to see that. The span of a human life is nothing when compared to the age of the cosmos already past, much less the eons yet to come. I've never been able to understand how any devine being could punish OR reward someone for all eternity for acts commited during such an infentisimal amount of time. When it comes to living my daily life, I don't believe in any outside influences that have any bearing on the decisions I make: everything I say and do comes directly from me, and as such, I choose to live my life in the best way that I know how. I give people the benefit of the doubt until they give me reason not to, I treat everyone with dignity and respect, I offer kind words to those I encounter, offer help to those that need it, and do everything I can to avoid bringing harm to the world around me.

As I said: I may not believe in God, but I'm actually very positive on Jesus (Jesus, Jehovah, Jeshua, whatever you prefer to call him). I'm a very big believer in the MAN that he was. I think he was possibly the single most enigmatic human being to ever walk the earth, a great man with a great message, who tried to make the people and the world around him better, as did Moses, Abraham, and Judah before him, and Mohammad after him, to name only a few of the Prophets. Christs' message of love, peace, unity, and brotherhood is a message that we all need to not only recognize, but also live out, day to day. Some may say that they do, but in thier hearts, they know the truth.

Those that worship the God of Israel seek Heaven, the Buddhists seek Nirvana, and the Hindus seek Dharma. I say that we need not seek the path to Paradise, no matter our individual spiritual preferences. Paradise, I say, is right here, all around us, in every sunrise, every sunset, in every child's laugh, in every smile from a loved one.

The five tenets of my personal beliefs are Honor, Courage, Respect, Wisdom, and Love. Paradise is here and now, we need only open our eyes.

I like how you think.

The only thing that I wish is that people would just accept everyone else for who they are. Who cares what the believe in? If it doesnt change your opinion, who cares? They have to deal with things on their own.

I dont know, maybe Im just a confused little girl. I just dont see the huge deal with people's religions. It's a difference; just like having blue eyes or brown hair. It's just a difference.

When that "spreading of the word" turns into murder and hatred towards others in God's name...I really dont think that's what he wants.

Then, it's absurd.

I believe in God. I believe that Christ died for our sins...I do not believe in religious politics and organized churches that demaind 30% of your income and tell you that God will frown upon you for not paying.
I believe that God hears my prayers, stands with me when I am weary, and guides me when I am lost. Do I have to go to church to receive such attention? No. All I have to do is ask.
I also believe there are forces to work against us...those forces being that of evil.

I believe in God, his Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. I believe Christ died for everyone on the cross. I believe that there is Satan, and for now he has been give free reign over the world. Until Jesus comes back to take us to live with him. I also believe in a Hell..the Bible says a fiery furnace, which would be bad enough..but I think the most important thing that keeps me on the straight and narrow is Hell is also referred to as separation from God. I picture not having God in my life..or God actually turning his back on me and walking away..that to me is the scariest thing I would never want to feel that.
