Wanda!!!
I haven't talked to you in a while. So glad you found this thread. Your prayers are welcomed, and most gratefully.
It looks so much better on the ridge now. I am such a believer in the power of prayer. When many have prayed together, I have seen miracles happen. I only see one peak where there are flames, but they seem to have been isolated. I don't know about Pioneertown, and I am not sure about the Northern fire path.
The skies are much clearer, although it remained very blue overhead, even when the smoke was really bad, because the wind was blowing quite hard. The winds have now subsided, so that is another blessing.

Thanks guys!
The fire has now burned 17,000 acres. I can't believe how quickly it went out of control. It is at 0% containment. Thirty structures have burned, and many towns have been put on evacuation watch. Morongo Valley is safe for now, but the planes and copters can't drop water at night, so it is the ground workers until daylight.
The people in Pioneertown were evacuated so quickly, many of the ranch owners had to tie their horses to their vehicles and walk them out of the fire areas. They didn't even have time to trailer them. Scary.
I can still see the red flames on the one ridgetop.

I have chills, Classy, after experiencing range/forest fires to the point of choking and tearing on the smoke (they were still miles away)...and obseriving the aftermath: the near-instant destruction -- and the miracles.
Besides those in PioneerTown and in the path, may I suggest extra prayers (vibes/good thoughts/energies/whatever) for the firefighters...one of the most dangerous exhausting jobs on earth (and many are volunteers!)
My guess is that you won't be getting much sleep tonight...those now in harms way will know and understand and not only feel it, but appreciate it ...whichever way the wind blows.

I feel safe, but I am worried about others. Many are sleeping at the community center in Yucca Valley.
Oh--most definitely. The firefighters need bigtime prayers. They are a godsend. Where would we be without them? I don't even want to think about it. We owe them much.
I'm supposed to work at the Children's Museum tomorrow, and I'm worried about leaving my dogs. I am thinking good thoughts. I will be turning in soon, or I will be good for nothing manana.

My prayers go out for you, Classy, JD and everyone in harm's way of the fire. Critters, too. And of course my prayers go out to the firefighters and volunteers.

Good Morning/Afternoon (depending on where you are) . I posted in the "General Talk" thread too. The fire has consumed somewhere in the 30,000's of acres. Very sad. I don't know how things are in Mission Creek/Whitewater, but it doesnt look good that way. It is very black.
I do think we have fire damage in Big Morongo, or Little, but I don't yet know what. Most everyone here is very safe right now. The firefighters are doing a wonderful job, and I so appreciate them. Without them, my town would be gone. As I write, I hear a plane overhead. That has come to be a sound of comfort.
Until about 9:00pm last night, I was pretty much thinking I would have to evacuate, but after reading all of the posts in the "JD and Classy" thread, and replying to everyone, the red smoke cleared, and only misty cloud-like smoke remained. It cleared my view, and I could see I was safe for the night. It was pretty amazing.
Keep those prayers coming, as I have been. We have a community in Whitewater, and the fire has headed that direction. The structural ruin is in the 50's (last word), 89 vehicles had burned, and there were several out buildings destroyed. I'm not sure about the injuries. I know yesterday it was nine.
Thanks again to everyone. It's reassuring to know our communities have such support.

Hi Angel,
I hope you know we had prayers going out for you. Glad to see you back.
For those who don't know, last I heard, the fired had consumed over 60,000 acres. Originally, it was thought the merging of the two fires would be beneficial, but it was determined that the fire's paths were headed toward virgin forests of Big Bear.
I am staying in a hotel. We were forced to evacuate. I stayed as long as I could. The dogs and I are fine, but it is hotter than heck.
I can't thank you all enough for the pouring out of prayers. We are safe, and there have not been any fatalities reported. Thank God for that.

Just so everyone knows, I am back home now. I returned about 1:00pm today. Driving into my valley, it looked beautiful. The trees were still green, and, other than some fire engines passing on the highway, no one would have guessed what we have been through lately. My house was safe and sound, and I had left on all of the swamps and fans, so it was nice and cool.
The missing man was found not far from his home. He didn't make it. I was afraid the news would not be good. He had been gone far too long. Someone said he was found the opposite direction of where he should have been headed. How very sad for his loved ones.
Another fire has now started in Running Springs, which is a very woodsy area. The Sawtooth fire has burned 61,000 acres. The Millard fire has burned about 12,000. I haven't heard about the Redlands fire today.
Thunder storms are expected within the next two days, which means more chance of lightning strikes. I had a message from the sheriff department to be on the alert for flashfloods. There is nothing to hold back the flow of water and debris now.
I'm not sure about the evacuees in Whitewater. I never heard more about whether the fire was kept from entering that canyon. There are some beautiful cottages tucked way up above the Whitewater hatchery. It is a place that is quite enchanting. I am praying everything was kept from harm.
I am really tired today. I think it all kind of caught up with me, but all is well. My dogs were ecstatic about being able to run off of a leash.
Many thanks again for all of your prayers and concern.

Sent to me by my Buddhist Sangha, maybe everyone would like to give a prayer...
Can everyone spend some time today to pray for an old standby:
Peace in the Middle East.
I was particularly affected by this line from a NY Times article today:
"Two Israeli Arab brothers, ages 3 and 9, were killed as they played outside in Nazareth, the Galilee town where Jesus spent his boyhood ..."
May we look at this suffering without judgment or anger, but with compassion.
May everyone in that region and in the world sit with silence and remember the love that is in their hearts.

I found this article today and thought of the prayer room here.
Lubbock, Texas, plans to pray for rain
LUBBOCK, Texas, July 24 (UPI) -- Public officials in Lubbock, Texas, are organizing a day to pray for rain.
"Nobody is going to tell God what to do and what not to do, but we are in a serious drought in West Texas and since he is the man who controls the rain clouds, we're asking him for his mercy and his help," Mayor David Miller told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
The City Council and the Lubbock County commissioners are expected to adopt resolutions this week asking local residents to both pray and fast for rain this Sunday.
So far this year, Lubbock has received about half of its normal 10 inches. In the weeks since June 1, the growing season for cotton, rainfall has been a scant .75 inches, far less than the normal 4.43 inches.
Officials have tried prayers before and say they were answered. In January 2004, after a year of drought, the city and county set aside a Sunday to pray for rain and got the second-wettest year since records have been kept.
