I chose to suppoort all who serve. Be they Military, Police, Firefighters, or Teachers. The who, what, where, and why, behind it, is another issue.

The same evil minded people are orchestrating it.......... it's a friggen politics encore of "Nam" just set up in a new theatre. You see, my friend since there is no more cold war with Communism "the evil ones" now need a new nemesis of fear to frighten Americans. What else would military generals and weapons manufacturers masturbate too? Not to mention the World Bank and oil cartels. They could get kind of lonely not having a means to justify their existences and promotions. Our tax dollars glitter in the eyes of the evil. This war design is much like the one of "Nam" with the exception of satellite surveillance technology, but it's much more ruthless politics.
Whew!

Actually, Eisenhower (R) made the first committment of advisor troops to Vietnam and turned the CIA loose to engage in psychological warfare against the North. He took over when the French crawled out after Dien Bien Phu and set the U.S. on it's course in S.E. Asia....fighting the godless commies!!!

Oh yeah, I remember that...the 'domino theory'...if we let Vietnam go communist, the rest of Asia would follow suit. Funny how that never happened. Wish they'd tried reading Atlas Shrugged instead. Looks like Ayn Rand called it pretty well in some ways. Who's John Galt...or better yet, where?

hey martin your right I remember JFK before the Company eliminated him, would of gone in with B52's from hanoi down and finished it up, then being ordered over as a advisor given five rounds and told to ask permission to shoot after the first almost over run and KIA, they changed their minds.. Johnson and nixon were chickens..should have had a woman in office she would have cleaned to whole mess up real quick.. aka ellenor rosevelt[sp]

The biggest difference with Vietnam is we could walk away with only a bruised geo-political ego. Plainly, Southeast Asia was not vital to our national security. However, the Middle East IS vital, so to leave Iraq in turmoil and have it become a virulently anti-American theocracy would be totally unacceptable. It's not only desirable for Iraq to make a positive transition to peaceful government friendly to the US, but imperative.

The difference is that in Nam we at least had one side of a conflict on our sides. In Iraq we have unified formerly warring factions against us. I dont think there was any way to run more ineffecient war on Terror than the route we have taken.

Mo, have you done any reading on the general feelings in Iraq about foreigners of any kind these days? Not just the US, but even those they feel most comfortable with are unwelcome. No question that Saddam was guilty of everything he's been charged with and probably a lot more besides, but tell that to people who can't even go to the store without risking being killed. We were attacked five years ago and we've become more xenophobic than any time in our history. Can you imagine how they feel? We're not going to have Iraq friendly to us, or to anyone else, for a long time to come. Of course the up side is that I don't think they really want any part of al Qaida either.

Heaven and Everrett, no question we need is a much better strategy in Iraq but we're there to stay, at least for the foreseeable future, so we better make the most of it. A good book to read is "Fiasco", which not only outlines our failures in vivid detail, but provides success stories by a few perceptive, intelligent commanders that was, unfortunately, not followed up by higher-ranking superiors and national policy makers.

Hi Two...one big Arc Light from hanoi on down would have killed a lot of monkeys and water buffalo, but I'm not sure it would have taken care of what needed to be taken care of. We just got beat...pure and simple...just like we're going to get beat in Iraq...no, take that back, just in the way we've already been beat and haven't figured it out yet in Iraq. We're still there because there's so much fire going overhead we couldn't withdraw if we tried. We're stuck.
