WASHINGTON (AP) -- Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, architect of an unpopular war in Iraq, intends to resign after six stormy years at the Pentagon, Republican officials said Wednesday.
Officials said Robert Gates, former head of the CIA, would replace Rumsfeld.
The development occurred one day after congressional elections that cost Republicans control of the House of Representatives, and possibly the Senate as well. Surveys of voters at polling places said opposition to the war was a significant contributor to the Democratic Party's victory. (Watch why the Army Times said Rumsfeld had to go -- 1:49 )
President George W. Bush was expected to announce Rumsfeld's departure and Gates' nomination at a news conference. Administration officials notified congressional officials in advance.

What a BIG MAN he was barking out orders and death sentences to the impartial soldiers that obliged their lives for the original intent of the safety of the U.S.A., and innocent civilians of a nation that was not a threat to us while that administration enjoyed the benefits of the frenzy.
And now he wants to puss-out  Rummy baby, you don't deserve heroric recognition in the history books of America.

I may not have agreed with the war or his policies, but the President had him take the fall.... you see this stuff happen all the time, Look back to Clinton, he brought in David Gergen, a Republican aide to Nixon, Ford, and Reagan... its all about extending an Olive branch....

I would go along with Cheney being axed but not Pres Bush.I think it better for this country overall to stick with what we have for two more years.
Dont get me wrong,I'm not completely on his bandwagon either, but I am on Americas.Two more years is better with him,I believe,than to further shame of our country by impeachment.

I have to say IMHO impeaching is not a shame on our country-it is proof that Americans DO have a say when elected officials screw up. Democracy. Of the people, by the people, for the people.

Normally not Lori but with all the hate right now for America an impeachment would lead to worse and ridicule.That hate wont stop by getting rid of our president.Look what is happening today,Bush knows he's hogtied.He knows there has to be change and it has to come from him.
Everything he has done has not been wrong,lets not tell the world that it all has.
If he doesnt bring change,then kick his ass out.

I think the world has already formed an opinion about Bush. They, for the most part, feel he's the terrorist and would be very thankful and supportive of us if we booted him out. Impeachment would be a positive action for us and in the eyes of the rest of our planet.
 I wish I were a cartoonist. I have this image of Bush as a duck on crutches shouting, "Quack! Quack!" and people nearby saying, "Did you hear something?" "No, I didn't hear anything."

Figures...The happy doofuss Americans will play right into the hands of terrorists.
Can all your elected leaders,abandon your allies in the Mideast,raise the minimum wage so its even easier for foriegn countries to sell cheaper material in this country and let them cry when they cannot drive there cars 75 miles to work everyday because they cant afford to borrow $6 a gallon for gas anymore because we control it.
