We just had a referendum here in Wisconsin to reinstate the punishment by death for horrific crimes that can be proven by DNA testing that I supported. No,it isnt proven to reduce those crimes by having it but it does prevent it from happening again by that individual. Please dont throw the fact that because I'm a Christain I should be more forgiving because I'm allready a sinner for far less. If one of my children where to suffer from someone elses intentional devious act I would have no problem rotting in hell if I could have my own reckoning with that criminal.

Death penalty is no better than the crime itself.
Iradicating the problems isn't solving the problems.
There are reasons why people do horrendous crimes and these can not ascertained unless these criminals are studied throughout their life span.
They should also be placed in work environment to pay their way and for the crimes they commit.

It is a proven fact that it costs far more to execute someone than to incarcerate them for life...I'd rather see that money go for more police to help prevent crimes, or more education to help kids not grow into criminals in the first place.

What if they would realize there is life after this? Not just read a book but by experience in meditation for example. Much better

It is a proven fact that it costs far more to execute someone than to incarcerate them for life...I'd rather see that money go for more police to help prevent crimes, or more education to help kids not grow into criminals in the first place. This is for the state of California.
Budget Overview Program Allocation (in thousands) Corrections and Rehabilitation Administration $203,126 Corrections Standards Authority $244,037 Juvenile Operations $170,635 Juvenile Education, Vocations, and Offender Program $131,590 Juvenile Paroles $37,022 Juvenile Healthcare $55,976 Adult Corrections and Rehabilitation Operations $4,577,799 Parole Operations-Adult $623,333 Board of Parole Hearings $78,597 Education, Vocations and Offender Programs – Adult $238,906 Correctional Health Care Services $1,037,722 Total: $7,398,743
Well, hanging, firing squad, and all the other ones would be cheaper.
I do have to say, There are times I agree with it, and then again, I am not sure it is right either. If it was one of my loved ones killed? I will pull the trigger.

If it was one of my loved ones killed? I will pull the trigger. Katt, I feel the same way until I stop and wonder how I'd feel if I found out he really was innocent. A lot of people are being freed 30 years after the fact with the advent of DNA testing, but at least they're alive to be freed. I wonder how much more we'll learn in the next 30 years.

I agree Heaven. That is when I take a step back and think about what I would do if I found out some one was innocent and had been put to death. I believe that Indiana stopped the death penelty because they found out innocent people had been put to death.
I guess it is the Angel/devil thing. One is saying yes and the other is saying no.

Should the death penalty be abolished or maintained, and why? I'm all for it with one caveate - that those facing it are allowed a million dollar defence rather than the average twenty five thousand dollar one they get now. If the government cannot put that cash up, then don't seek it.

I find it amusing that a vast majority of the anti death penalty crowd are also pro abortion...lets save the guilty and murder the innocents..make very little sense to me
I feel the death penalty is not used enough...why are there lawsuits being filed because the condemmened "suffered" while being executed..but the children they murderd died in peace?
Another tax payer waste of money....why do they swab the arm with alcohol before the needle goes in ??? ya know what a case of alcohol wipes costs??...more than the life of the filthy pig that decided a innocent persons life was worth less than a dime bag of rock
OHHHH im on fire over this issue ...hope the MD police are being lax tonite

if dna proves them guilty i say yes put them to death, for those who say it's not a deterrent i say ok lets bring back public execution.build some gallows in the middle of town and hang em.were are the rights of the victims? more so if they are child preditors we cannot continue to allow sick demented people to prey on our children.to many are getting second chances to attack again

That is an interesting point Irish. Many anti-death penalty people are pro-death(pro-abortion)instead of pro-life.

Howabout we leave abortion out of this, alright? My mother had to have one to save her life, and if she didn't have one...I wouldn't have a mother. I thank God abortion is legal every day.
If someone close to me was murdered, I would NEVER want them murdered. To me, all that says is "You have to be murdered because you murdered". That makes no sense to me. That would be like if I stole something and the person who owned the store I stole something from came to my house and stole one of my posessions. Two wrongs make a right now? Does the criminal dying bring your loved one back? Do you feel some sick sense of retribution, like you're glad this person was murdered in your loved one's name?

This is one of those trick questions isn't it Martin?
Bible says :
An eye for an eye & Thou shalt not kill
But I personally think it should be abolished. For a very simple fact.
If someone killed one of my loved ones, I would want them to live a very long life behind bars. Killing them would be the easy way out for them. I want them to suffer as long as possible behind bars. Never knowing freedom, never being able to interact with non criminals, always fearing for his/her life (gang fights and such)....the list continues.
It's not on a moral ground that I wish to have it abolished, rather that I want to see them suffer.

WHAT ABOUT THE VICTIMS. You cant bring them back to life.....
You can only punish those that are alive....you are making it sooooo easy for them to escape punishment by putting them to death

Just for the record, I want to say I don't see anything wrong with abortion if the life of the mother is in danger or if they've been raped. Carry on.
