Despite being an important point of entry into the US, New York doesn't have a state anti-trafficking statute. I think she meant NY assembly.

And slavery happens right here. The attached article is about girls smuggled into the country with promises of work as secretaries and maids who were kept locked up and used as prostitutes -- the article talks about a raid in New Jersey -- but there are also little girls and boys kidnapped off our city streets each and every day who are sold as sex slaves to perverts in other parts of the country.

In 2003, there was a summit at the White House hosted by the Department of Justice and including representatives from a variety of organizations who have been working to end the trafficking of human beings here and abroad. John Ashcroft and the President both said that federal legislation was insufficient and urged the states to enact specific sex trafficking statutes. The changes in the laws include additional enforcement mechanisms against sex tour operators; against individuals who hold women hostage domestically; to provide services to women, men and children rescued from these hellholes; and to provide remedies for victims. Twenty-seven states have enacted such bills, New York has not.
Last year, NY State Senator Padavan introduced legislation. He has not done so (as yet) this session and it is my understanding that some did not consider his bill tough enough. A coalition of women's groups, childrens groups, law enforcement and other concerned citizens have been holding rallies in Albany each week and will continue to do so, until strong legislation is passed.

But this isn't history. This isn't beating up people today for the sins of their forebears. It is about things, horrible things, happening to people in the here and now.
It's about teenagers who have fights with their parents, get on a bus, are kidnapped when they get off and forced to perform sex acts 20-30 times a day. It's about snuff films. It's about "travel agents" who organize sex trips to Thailand and pay procurors who go over the border into Myanmar (Burma) or out into the countryside and kidnap 8 year old girls for the travel agent's clients to have sex with. It's about Chinese workers in the Marianas Islands who are forced to sew garments, are repeatedly raped and beaten by their employers, forced to have abortions, and locked each night in container cars.

That's why we have cops. I still don't know what I'm supposed to do with it.

The only reason the US has this issue is because we haven't just plain closed the borders, like we should have a long time ago. That would stop at least most of this trafficking and the illegals taking over like they are. Bottom line is that Bush doesn't care about the country, just playing war, so all this other stuff gets pushed to the side and unaddressed.

Anyone who doesn't believe that the practice of slavery is still active is living a sheltered and indifferent life....
