This week, the prosecution and defense teams will make their closing statements and then the case will go to the jury. To refresh, Libby was charged with five felonies: one count of obstruction of justice; two counts of perjury; and two counts of making false statements. He was not charged with leaking Valerie Plame's name.
Libby told investigators and a federal grand jury that he first heard of Plame's CIA employment from journalist Tim Russert and that he had forgotten that Vice President Dick Cheney had already told him that information. Recently, Russert testified he never discussed a CIA operative during a July 2003 phone conversation with Libby. Libby has testified that, at the end of the call, Russert brought up war critic Joseph Wilson and mentioned that Wilson's wife worked for the CIA.
The defense had hinted it would call both Libby and Vice President Cheney to the stand, but called neither. Some have argued that the defense wanted to wrong-foot the prosecution by threatening to put Cheney and Libby on the stand and to make Libby look like a good soldier when they (the defense) did not. In otherwords it's all about the pardon.
Presidential pardons, by the way, are something already familiar to Mr. Libby. Libby was the attorney for Marc Rich, one of Clinton's pardons and the one who cost Clinton a good deal politically.

Well, if he had anything to do with Clinton then he should definitely go to jail, so I say fry him!
That said, however, I think it's always wrong to convict purely on eyewitness testimony. If they don't have any hard evidence, such as recordings or memos written, that clearly demonstate subsequent statements to be perjury, then I would say they have to let him go. Do they have such evidence?

Aside from the fact that your comments about "eye witness" testimony violate all notion of American jurisprudence, I can tell you that there is quite a bit of other evidence including copies of faxes sent by Libby, etc. The list is available from the special prosecutor's webpage at the Department of Justice.

Yeah well, tell it to the innocent people who have spent years in jail because of eyewitness testimony that turned out to be wrong or fabricated.
In any case, if there’s solid proof that he lied then what’s the issue...send him to jail.

I think there is solid proof of his guilt, whether or not he sees the inside of a jail will be another story.

Consider yourself picked! If Scooter gets the orange jump suit, he'll be good and shut up until the current POTUSA leaves office.
If Scooter gets the pardon, he'll be free to run his mouth.
I vote for the orange jump suit and the boy friend named Bubba.

I think you have it backwards...If they negotiate a pardon, keeping his mouth shut as he has until this point by not testifying himself or calling Cheney as a witness, will be part and parcel of the deal.

Pardons are without condition where parole is.
If Scooter gets pardoned, what will keep him from telling every reporter and novelists "the VEEP made me do it!"

I just think they'll give him an ultimatum...pardon and keep your mouth shut. He has kept it shut so far.

I hoping something will come out of this that will cause Cheney to resign.
Or at least stress him out so his heart can't take it and has to take medical leave.

Or maybe Cheney will write Scooter a cryptic note about the changing of the leaves on the aspen trees.

When the NYTimes reporter Judith Miller was in jail, Scooter Libby sent her this letter about the changing of the leaves on the aspen....I'll try to find the whole letter. Very wierd.
Here's the link...the last paragraph is a doozy.

Yesterday, Washington was abuzz about the dismissal of a juror in the Scooter Libby trial. The defense scored a victory when it convinced the judge to allow the 11 remaining jurors (as is allowed in federal court) to reach a verdict. Apparently, the defense was extremely concerned about allowing the 1st alternate to be named to the jury -- she tooks lots of notes throughout and her body language during the defense's closing arguements gave the defense team something to worry about.
Jury watching, like bird watching, is a nuanced sport. The attached article discusses the latest concerns and observations about the Libby jury.

Considering the criminal acts the president has committed, of course he will pardon him. Sure wouldn't want to set any kind of pattern that would have his own butt going to jail.

There are some gallows recently tested by an ousted leader of Iraq. They need to be tested once again for durability.
