Chuck Hagel, a United States Senator from Nebraska, is fed up with George W. Bush’s constant failures and stubborn refusal to follow the law. That’s why, in the April issue of Esquire magazine, Senator Hagel is dropping the I Bomb - impeachment. Hagel told the magazine,
“Any president who says, I don’t care, or I will not respond to what the people of this country are saying about Iraq or anything else, or I don’t care what the Congress does, I am going to proceed — if a president really believes that, then there are — what I was pointing out, there are ways to deal with that… You can impeach him, and before this is over, you might see calls for his impeachment. I don’t know. It depends on how this goes.”
Understand that Senator Hagel is not promising to support impeachment yet. However, the second most powerful Republican in the United States Senate is warning the President of the United States that he could well join the popular push to impeach Bush soon in the future, if Bush continues to refuse to comply with the constitutional system of checks and balances, and attempts to thwart the power of Congress in our system of federal government.

I doubt Bush will be impeached no matter what he does. His continued presence makes victory for the democrats in 08 even more likely. He is a lame duck president, passing nothing, and getting nothing passed while accomplishing nothing at home or overseas. The democrats enjoy the way this is going too much to replace him with someone who might get something done.

Besides, if Mk2 is impeached, then Cheney is POTUSA and we're really screwed.

They could both be impeached, and that would put the presidency in the hands of the democrats.

I'm just saying if you were going to impeach Bush, you really must also impeach Cheney.
I realize it won't happen,

Yeah, I agree--impeachment of either is unlikely. The dems are further ahead by sticking to their agenda for the next couple years and just letting george stumble along. Getting bogged down in an impeachment would suck all the oxygen out of their legislative agenda.
The way things are going, maybe the republicans will initiate it, though :)

It seems to be being suggested more by the Republicans than by the Democrats! At least at the present time. Which I think speaks rather highly for the Repubs.
It's true that if Bush were impeached, we'd be stuck with Cheney, the worst of the two evils. And, by the polls, even MORE unpopular. So impeachment would have to include both, and I seriously doubt that could work out. I believe it would have to be two separate processes. Two separate impeachments. Also I'm not real sure about Pelosi, just yet. She needs more scrutiny in a signficant leadership role, and more experience..
However I often wonder if Bush picking Cheney as a running mate wasn't a strategic move on his part, knowing full-well that NOBODY would want Cheney in that position, under ANY circumstances! Hence that is Bush's safety net.

I'm still waiting to hear what laws President Bush has broken. Other than a visceral hatred of him, what do the Democrat/Marxists have as a basis for impeachment?
The reason impeachment is unlikely has nothing to do with the Democrats need to save their political currency for other things and everything to do with there being absolutely no basis for it.
Raising the issue of impeachment is childish, uninformed and stupid. Even the otherwise brain-dead political leaders of the Democrats (such as Pelosi) have distanced themselves from this loony idea.

I can tell you what law he hasn't broken.
(a) The President shall appoint, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, a United States attorney for each judicial district. (b) Each United States attorney shall be appointed for a term of four years. On the expiration of his term, a United States attorney shall continue to perform the duties of his office until his successor is appointed and qualifies. (c) Each United States attorney is subject to removal by the President.

Neither of you have a clue.
Congress declared war in Iraq. That's right they DECLARED WAR. You often hear the thumb sucking whiney left saying things like "nya nya nya ... Congress didn't declare war, war was not declared." Gee, they are so clever.
The fact is that the Constitution contains NO SPECIFIC LANGUAGE that must be used to "declare war." So authorizing the use of military force -- which the Congress did -- cannot be distinguished from the so-called "declaring war."
Either way, the President is acting with COMPLETE LEGAL AUTHORITY with respect to the military force authorized by Congress. So calling for impeachment on the grounds of President Bush's conduct of the war in Iraq is without basis and simply stupid.
And acslim. What are you smoking my friend? Can you not read? The very post you pointed to quotes the LAW. And it says...
(c) Each United States attorney is subject to removal by the President. What part of that don't you understand?

Interesting.
I wonder why congress chose to use the language it did rather than simply use the words "declare war?"
I mean, if there's no difference between the two states, why would they choose language that's not a part of the Constitution and only end up confusing things?
