It looks like just about all the Iraqis now want us to leave.
If it was my country, I wouldn't want to be occupied by anyone either.

This would not be the first time the president of Iraq made statements of this nature, nor unfortunately, the last time GWB will ignore him.

“If the provisional government asks us to leave we will leave,” Bremer said, referring to an Iraqi administration due to take power June 30. “I don’t think that will happen, but obviously we don’t stay in countries where we’re not welcome.” Paul Bremer in 2004.

I find it interesting that that he is a kurd yet sympathizing with 'all the Sunni's of the former military who got displaced from their jobs' wtf?
That's so like a typical politician... with his thumb in the air trying to figure which way the wind is blowing. He probably sees all the leftist action in this country trying to get us to cut and run and is trying to cover his ass 'just in case'

Well I think you just can't label human beings and expect them to all conform to the category you put them in ...
I see a lot of labelling in these forums .. maybe he just thinks its time to move on and build a new country

I posted this yesterday. Dunno what happened.
"We’re not in Iraq for Iraqis. We’re in Iraq for us. We’ll leave when we’re good and ready."

Hi acslim--
It is weird to see a Kurd say that, but he may be offering a bit of an olive branch. Last week, the Iraqi congress voted to remove most of the arabs who had settled in the kurdish area (mostly sunnis) and return the homes and land to the original kurdish owners, as well as to pay compensation.
If you're interested in things Kurdish, try:

The political forum here could use a resident Kurdish scholar.. :)
Lot's of people are saying lot's of strange things now at the Saudi Summit. That summit may be the biggest thing to hit the mideast since WWII ended.

The Saudi's are mainly Sunnies. Since we now seem to be aligned with the Shia, the picture is changing again.
Isn't it strange that we are lined up with the Shiites (which are closely linked with Iran), but threatening Iran at the same time? It gets stranger and stranger.
I think most Iraqi's want us out, no matter which side they are on. They are tired of war and their country being torn up.

Thanks but he did not pass it through parliament to make it an order. Only a political opinon to keep himself in favor with the people who hate the US. Nothing but political survival going on here.

So when the soverign leader wants you out of his country, you don't have to listen, even though you already agreed to, which Bush had done previously.

You haven't shown where he asked though. Only where he said that he would like the US to get out. Political expediency can make a politician say all sorts of things in public while doing the opposite in private. Only the bills passed in parliament show what he is really about.
So, what does he push for there?

Political expediency is what this entire war is about. Bush used it to whip the country into a frenzy with false accusations and lies. And now that he has failed, he is grasping at straws, trying desperately to avoid any withdrawl during his presidency so it can be someone else's failure. He has been asked to leave, and refuses simply to leave the war as someone else's mess.

Personal? The entire UN figured Iraq had WMDs and you think Bush himself is Dr Evil yet, he had the backing of the UN and fourteen resolutions and more than five ceasefire violations to run with and, wnet through Congress.
Now, you think the Iraqi pesident can make foreign policy on his own out of his vest pocket. Interesting. He was elected and yet, he can make policy on his own where I see that he makes it democratilly through bills and so on.
According to what you belive, if applied to the US, Bush should be able to have an interiveiw with any paper and then, whatever he says in the interview becomes law.

Sorry Nova, but an invasion of your country is not a matter of foreign policy. It is an immediate and current endangerment to your nation, in which the US president does have the authority to enact upon. Bush did not need a bill to invade Afganistan. He was in full authority to do so on his own, as 9/11 was a threat to our nation, just as we are one to Iraq.

just as we are one to Iraq. Iraq was in violation of ceasefire agreements as well as UN resolutions which had threats of force from member nations authorized to use force to back up those resoutions. Iraq under Saddam was subject to those orders and resolutions. Now, many of those orders have been removed and, the country can move forward as voted in by the people.
So, what does the president of Iraq have to say formally. Does he say that the country orders the US to leave? Or, is it just him giving his personal opinon which means nothing until backed by law?

I suspect he is merely saying things that will build his popularity... at our expense of course.
