I'm glad to see that CBS and MSNBC have suspended Imus, they should fire him and that producer that was on with him making the racist cracks, and he should never work in any media again. This isn't the 1950's and a national radio show isn't a Klan meeting. Calling black women "nappy headed hos" is inexcusable, and saying it was just a joke is no defense. This guy needs to be gone.

Once Imus is gone, Howard Stern should be next, how many times have we heard him insult people with mental and/or physical defects? Call women sluts, hos, whores, etc. Degrading people isn't humor, it's filth and shouldn't be broadcast. There is no excuse for people like Stern and Imus.

Stern won't be going anywhere because he's on satellite. I don't like Imus either but he isn't the one who needs to go. The people who really need to go away are the race baiters themselves. People like Sharpton and Jackson happily destroy lives with double standards for their own gain.

Censorship is a crock of shit.

Freedom of speech should be protected at all costs. If you dont like what they have to say......dont listen. There is always going to be something said somewhere, by someone, that you dont like or agree with......but they still have a right to say whatever the f*ck they want to. This is America.

Nappy headed ho's is mild. I bet some of the Rutgers ball players have called each other "nappy headed ho's" before......and even worse. Should they be sued for it? Is this another phrase that needs to be banned like the dreaded "N-word" (nigger)?

People really need to get their heads out of their asses and apply themselves to issues that really matter.

LJ's right.

What Imus said was so mild that everyone's repeating it on CNN and Fox Noise.

Sharpton and Jackson are the biggest racist womanizers on the planet. They're after to screw every white man who makes it big.

And Limbaugh. I'd put him right up there with Jackson and Sharpton. He's said things a lot worse than Imus, and he's on the air. But on the other hand, Imus hasn't been known to dabble in the art of hypocritical drug abuse.

I don't care much for Imus either. And he says a lot of tactless things. They could take him off MSNBC and it wouldn't bother me in the least. That comment wasn't cool to make in my view. But he's not known for tact and such terms are often used in the culture. If we cut them out one place, we should cut them out altogether, and there's not much chance of that.

Still though, on the air was not appropriate in my opinion, nor would be anywhere. However he has apologized every which way from Sunday, including on Sharpton's own show. Now that took guts and he does deserve credit for doing that. He let Sharpton beat on him relentlessly and didn't have to be there at all.

However I also feel that Sharpton, in particular, is just a mess!! What a blood-sucking miscreant! Every third word he utters is "Racist"! He should go home and stay completely out of the public eye from now until forever, just as Limbaugh and Stern should!!

I'm wondering. Will I get in trouble for saying "it's nappy time" when I'm tired? I say it all the time.

I think this tells us that even though we all have the right of free speech, if we don't use good judgement with it, there is apt to be consequences.

Having said that, I am a firm believer in the freedom of speech. We just have to recognize that we cannot expect to insult and degrade people without paying a price.

My best friend and I call each other "you disgusting dyke" "you fat towelhead bitch" etc etc all the time. We're close...it's not an insult and we KNOW it's not an insult. Of course, it's not a compliment, either...but it's comfortable.

But if somebody else does it, it's uncomfortable and could be considered an insult...and in Mr. Imus's case, it was, so it really doesn't matter if the teammates called each other "nappy headed ho's" or not.

I understand what you're trying to say, LGQ, but it really does matter. People who care about each other should NEVER use disrespectful terms to show affection. It's actually a sign of dysfunction, of growing up 'not knowing any better'.

All due respect in my disagreement....

i don't think so, it's not really a sign of affection, it's kind of like if one does something that pisses the other off she'll take a shot at the other one...you know? it's comfortable, it's not insulting. and if it doesn't matter to either one of us that's doing it, then i don't think it should matter to anyone else, really. the moment i'm upset by it, though, i will let you all know.

but from anyone else, who i haven't shared 99% of my life, plus my body (i dated this same girl) with...yeah..it would be insulting.

I don't like the idea of one group of people being able to use certain words while another group isn't allowed. That's anything but equality.

Sticks and stones may break my bones but words only hurt the weak.

I agree, but it doesn't mean that everybody should say them, it means that there are certain things no one should say.

I'm pretty sure a black comedian could have said that, and then referred to caucasian women as white bimbos and nothing would have been done, or said.
My main concern here is how the media found room in their schedule to squeeze this in between "news" about Anna Nicole Smith.

If you ban that word, a lot of rappers will go broke. A friend of mine counted the word 56 times in ONE "song".

There is no excuse for people like Stern and Imus.

Or Rush Limbaugh.

All that being said, censorship is the first step to tyranny. If you let the government decide what people can and can't say, you're no different than China.
