"FIVE MILLION e-mails were lost by the White House according to a just released report from CREW called "WITHOUT A TRACE: The Missing White House Emails and the Violations of the Presidential Records Act." FIVE MILLION...that's insane.

As I explained in the post below, Bush staffers have been already been using separate RNC e-mail accounts to conduct official business in order to avoid the law and hide evidence. How? Because White House officials are supposed to use White House email accounts and White House Blackberrys to conduct official business (this is required under federal law and under the White House's own explicit rules). That's because under federal law every single electronic communication of a White House official must be recorded and kept in the federal archives. That makes such communications subpoenable if and when those employees break the law. By using the RNC email system and the RNC Blackberrys the White House thought they were hiding their potential crimes, and in so doing were violating federal law. We learned only yesterday that the White House admitted that their employees destroyed countless emails. Now we know that by countless they meant 5 fricking million.

While nothing should shock us about the Bush administration anymore, this is shocking.

No wonder the Bush people can't run the country and can't come up with a plan for the war. They can't even figure out their own e-mail system (of course, they knew darn well what they were doing, they were destroying the evidence). They even knew it was a problem, but didn't bother to fix it. You know that a lot of those missing e-mails are things they don't want us to ever see. What a coincidence that they started losing those e-mails in March of 2003, right when the Iraq war was starting."

When will it ever end?

No Mary, but if the leading republican candidates don't start distancing themselves from Bush more than they have been, a democrat will be. America doesn't trust this administration, and aren't likely to trust anyone associated with it.

When some group of people decide that enough is enough...as I am hoping is happening right now.

There is absolutely no need to distance from Mr. Bush. Just because communists portray him as evil it doesn't mean that he actually is.

Personally I think he is great and has ALL of my respect.

You heard it here first, folks.

Go ahead and squeal again, if you must

Shrub has proven himself to be a horrible president, and he is actually working (Faint!) to rectify the situation. His Middle East policy is finally taking a turn for the positive, his Latin American policy is finally catching up (with what he ditched for 6 years after Clinton's idea, which he has adopted), Condi has finally taken a role of empowerment after playing the submissive for so long, and now look...we've got communications with Iran, Syria, and Mexico's new presidente.

You, and 21% of America, Mary. Whether you agree with him or not, he's a hated man. In the republican's own best interests, distance is the only option. We are seeing that now from republicans joining Pelosi overseas, as well as another republican calling for Bush's impeachment.

This email thing is a big issue. It stands the best chance of anything I've seen so far to bring down the administration if it represents a violation of the Presidential records Act.

Eastham---what do you think of this?

This is big stuff. Potentially bigger than anything to date.

I don't want to take away any of the thunder here, but they cannot be lost forever.
Most teenagers can pull deleted emails off a hard drive with minor skills. Now if the hard drives disappear, you have some real major legal issues with jail times.

An independent forensic computer specialist should be able to reclaim all of them, given the time, by tracking all sent to and received. I do not believe it is as daunting as it sounds.

History will show this administration to be the most corrupt since the Nixon era.
This will come to light years after George III is gone.

The real question is, who's gonna take the rap for this one? Karl Rove maybe?

They should be able to get at them, yes, even though it looks as if they might be stored on RNC computers, off site maybe? Maybe, maybe not.

With the RNC involved, that's a criminal conspiracy under RICO?

Good luck trying to present it in a true court of justice.

LOL--Door--that's for sure. Fortunately, the courts wouldn't be involved: impeached in the House, tried in the Senate.

It's too early to really know what happened yet, but there are some tantalizing questions.

As a Canadian and indeed a citizen of the world I am truly amazed how this President of yours has not been charged with war crimes and also Chaney.
He marched the US forces into Iraq after making up false reasons to do so. He told blatant lies as to laden's involvement with Saddam. Lies about yellow cake shipment from Africa to Iraq. Lies about weapons of mass destruction. He makes Nixon look like a choir boy.
Your country lets the killing of innocent people in Iraq continue both your own poor ignorant uneducated soldires and tens of thousands of Iraqis that have been massacared. You were once a respected country but now you are considered not worth knowing by civilized people around the world. You never learned from Viet Nam you are making the same mistakes over again.
Out of the war in Viet Nam came expressions such as carpet bombing, kooks, angent orange and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people. It is totally maddening why you elected this man two terms. I saw it all from a distance why you did not I will never understand.

Rushoon-
Actually, if you look at the popular vote from the 2000 elections-a majority of Americans did NOT elect him to be president! He got in on technicalities...
"...Ladies and gentlemen; His Accidency, the President!"

Personally, I think it's about time that we took over Canada. Nobody has guns so it's not like they can stop us. Just turn the provinces into states and use the new tax revenue to support the war!

What the hell are we supposed to invade them with? Boy Scouts? All of our military seems to be in the Middle East these days.
