Do you think he'd ever run? Or has the current administration ruined him on politics forever? I've met the man, and personally, I think he'd be a fine choice for president.

The man is honest and has integrity. The Right Wing Conservative base would never allow such a person to become its leader. He would never follow their ideology which is part of the reason he resigned. His defense at the UN of Bush's desires with false military intelligence reports was another knife in his honor. It will never happen as long as the conservatives control the Republican Party.

You raise a good point ray. He was lied to and dishonored. I have personally met this man when I was in the service. There is no one currently in the hunt better suited than him to run this country from either party. But because of political bullshit, it will never happen.

He, arguably, would be the best candidate either party could present to the American people. Your words ring true.

CP is a very honorable man, but so was Jimmy Carter who turned out to be the worst POTUSA of the latter 20th Century.
History will remember Dubya as the worst president of the early 21th Century - God help us all if he's not.

The man is honest and has integrity. I think we need to rephrase that.
He WAS honest and had integrity, until he did Bush's bidding for him and lied to the world. I believe he feels deeply ashamed about what he did, but for me it is too late. If he did it for Bush, who will be next? I have lost all the respect I had for him.

If Powell did run, the only repub that has a chance against him in the primaries would be McCain. I think that would be a toss up.
Sadly, he won't run. I don't know the man myself, but a close friend of mine does. Powell won't put his family through the BS that goes with running for and serving in an elected office. Add in all the risks to the family from the nuts in the world and he just is not willing to put them through that hell. Don't get me wrong, Powell would take the risk himself, but he won't do that to his family. Powell served his country for many years. I wish that he would do eight more, but I doubt that he will.

Unfortunately we have to put the "integrity" part of it in past tense. Once he realized what Bush and Cheney were doing, he should have never sold out America, out of loyalty to those two. By doing so be became part of it. It's a damn shame he did that and tainted himself for life.
For that reason I don't think he could ever get elected. Although amazingly enough, even Bush/Cheney were reelected for a 2nd term, in spite of all the evidence to the contrary. So it's really hard to be sure about that.
I'm pretty sure that Fred Thompson will eventually be the Republican nominee.

I do like Powell, but you need to update your notions on McCain's chances in 2008. It's looking like he's dead in the water as far as fundraising and his name recognition is not helping him past a distant third at the moment. I'm actually surprised at how badly McCain is doing at the moment.

I'm surprised you are surprised. In general, people have tired of the war and McCain has shown that he is willing to stay the course for however long. I am actually surprised that he is still visible. Unless a drastic situation arises, he should be gone by the third primary (if indeed he makes the first).
