Im no idiot (cant speak for you though) and I realize that when they begin pruning our rights, we will soon have no rights left to prune. Why dont you go read some German history and see how the Nazis rose to power.

Dont worry, I prefer beating old people up and stealing their money, rather than shooting them.

Martin, Remember the saying well. Another good one is "it's not the size that matters it's how you use it that counts".

Let em run with the gun control mantra. It's a losing proposition every time they try.

"It's a losing proposition every time they try."

Actually, I was under the impression that there were an increasingly large number of gun laws being enacted around the country, and that pro-gun people were increasingly angry about that?

Nope, not in Texas. The last "anti-gun" legislation we had was the assault rifle ban which was lifted several years ago. We can even carry concealed handguns here!!!! (license preferred)

If by enforce existing laws you mean do something effective to remove the pool of blackmarket firearms, I could agree.

I wonder how the guys and girls with a gun in their nightstand factor into that, I don't feel good about putting him or her in jail.

I would like to know where this guy got his guns. And ammo, for that matter.

Two law enforcement officials, speaking on condition of because the information had not been announced, said Cho's fingerprints were found on the guns used in both shootings. The serial numbers on the two weapons had been filed off, the officials said.

That's a good place to start. And I don't think Mr. Unregistered Gun In His Nightstand should go to jail either--he should have an amnesty to turn in his weapons.

BUT: if that unregistered gun is used in a crime or shooting of any kind, he should go to jail, and he should be open to every civil suit in the book. We do the same thing for automobiles, with the same consequences for unregistered users, why not for something inherently more dangerous like guns?

In addition, I think that all of the local "Co-ops" of America should be responsible for what happens to the fertilizer that they sell. If any fertilizer is misused and blows something up, I think the person who sold that fertilizer should be held accountable and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Diesel too.........

lj-

I'm not saying that gun manufacturers should be liable in those cases, but rather the owner for illegal possession of a handgun. That's illegal everywhere, isn't it? Illegal possession of a firearm is a crime, and criminals should be prosecuted, yes?

So you automatically assume that anyone who owns an "illegal" (unregistered is a better term) firearm, is also a "criminal".

Interesting.

If they are illegally in possession of a firearm, yes, of course, that's a criminal act.

What argument would you use to argue against that?

And I believe there are other ways that a gun can be held in illegal possession other than not having it registered: in the case of a felon having a shotgun in a state where there was no law to register shotguns.

Thats the same as me saying you are a "criminal" if you take two newspapers from the paper machine, or for eating a piece of candy from the brachs candy bin in the grocery store, or for cheating on your income taxes, or not coming to a complete stop at that stop sign in your neighborhood.

Sure, its "technically" against the law to do these things.......but does it really warrant labeling the offending person as a "criminal"?
